We won’t rest on laurels, says Rovers star Conway

GOALSCORING hero Craig Conway insists Blackburn Rovers cannot afford to rest on their laurels now they have played their way into play-off contention.

Gary Bowyer’s side are right in the thick of the battle for sixth spot after winger Conway’s first goal for the club secured a critical 1-0 conquest at Reading on Saturday.

But, with a derby double header against Bolton and Burnley coming up, Rovers have been urged to maintain the focus that has seen them string together a five-game unbeaten run – their longest of the campaign.

Conway, who won the Championship title with Cardiff City last season, said: “It was a massive game for us at Reading as we knew if we wanted to be in the play-offs we needed to win.

“We got it and now we’ve just got to keep it going. We’ve got two big derby games coming up that we’re looking forward to and which we can take confidence into.

“It’s important to keep going and not rest on our laurels after getting such a good win.

“The Championship is a tough league, I had the experience of winning it last season and you do have to take it one game at a time.

“There’s probably only one play-off place available now and hopefully we’ll be able to squeeze in there. We’ve just got to go about our business quietly and keep picking up points.”

Rovers will make the trip to take on Bolton on Saturday on the back of an unbeaten run that now stands at five matches after Conway marked his full debut with the winner against Reading.

“The three points were the most important thing but from a personal point of view to score on my full debut was brilliant,” said the Scotland international.

“There were always going to be times when we were going to have to sit in and catch them on the break.

“We got a few chances from that and, with the goal, the ball broke quite nicely for me, I had a wee bit of time and luckily it went in.

“The second half seemed like the longest half ever. With the nine minutes added on at the end we were hanging on a bit but they didn’t have any real clear-cut chances.”

Conway has made a tidy start to his Rovers career, but there are no laurels for anybody yet. Give it 100% in the next two matches and the crowd will be on your side, make a difference between now and the end of the season and the recognition will follow.

More nonsense from the also-rans at Ewood Park.

9th place and they're going on about the play-offs? Comedy.

Defeat at Bolton will calm you fools down a bit. I imagine then one or two will be calling for Bowyer to go again, such is the fickle nature of the average no-dad.

Doesn't matter if we don't make the play-offs. We'll stand a better chance of promotion next season with the brilliant rebuilding job that Bowyer's made. All I want to see is 100 per cent effort from the lads. They're in a decent position so they need to go for it.

For goodness sake old man, every time I come on here it's you that encourages the trolls. Your unrelated comment is as bad as theirs. And I'm not too sure what pre emptying is - answers on a postcard.

The Bolton game will be interesting, if you remember the home game it was possibly our best performance of the season, Josh King was absolutely unplayable that day and Cory Evans scored from 25 yds. I think even Leon came off the bench ?

My view is that our team has improved a lot since then, and Bolton seem to be struggling badly, it will be a major disappointment if we do not bring the three points home.

I agree we have improved measurably at the business end of the season. The players seem to be growing in confidence now and it's showing in the performances. We need to go into the next few games with a real determination and will to win. We may just have left it too late for this season, hope I'm wrong, but we can give it a real go with this team next season.

We need to be very wary of Bolton, they had their best
performance of the season on Saturday, they have a
new strike force of Jutkiewicz and Mason who are a real
threat by all accounts, and remember this is a bigger

Fair point HD, you obviously see things more clearly than I do ;-)

I've not seen these two but looking at their records neither of them has been prolific in their careers, and we have lads from Cardiff who should know all about Mason. Let's hope last Saturday was their lucky day.
