BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has confirmed that his captain Scott Dann is in talks with Crystal Palace over a proposed move to the Premier League outfit.

It comes after Rovers signed Scotland international winger Craig Conway, 28, for an undisclosed fee from Cardiff City.

Conway has penned a two-and-a-half-year contract.

“Scott is at this moment having talks with them,” said Bowyer, who once again insisted that Dann’s absence from Rovers’ last two matches was down to an Achilles injury.

“But that’s all it is – he’s got to agree and if he doesn’t agree he will end up coming backing to us.

“But if he does agree then there is a possibility of that transfer going through.”

Asked whether Rovers and Palace had agreed a fee for Dann, Bowyer said: “That’s above my head – that’s with the chairmans, managing directors and owners.”

If Dann departs Bowyer – who said no Palace player will be coming the other way – is likely to leave his search for centre-back cover until after the loan window reopens next Thursday.

But Bowyer is still chasing a striker before the permanent transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

He said he has not been given permission to talk to Leeds United’s Luke Varney, who has made it clear he would like to join Rovers.

But it is believed the chaos engulfing crisis-hit Leeds – the group attempting to take over the Elland Road club has withdrawn its bid – may be holding up any potential transfer.

Bowyer also confirmed that he is an admirer of Leicester City forward Martyn Waghorn, a player he has been linked to.

Ben Marshall, meanwhile, will undergo an operation on the ankle injury he sustained in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Derby County.

He is expected to be out for two months.

But Bowyer, who will also be without Lee Williamson for tomorrow’s home clash with Blackpool through concussion, hopes Marshall will be fit by the start of the season.

New boys Conway and Bryan Dabo are awaiting international clearance to play against Blackpool.
