Scott Dann valuation not met, says Blackburn Rovers boss

Lancashire Telegraph: Scott Dann and Gary Bowyer Scott Dann and Gary Bowyer

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer says the clubs interested in signing his skipper Scott Dann have yet to meet his asking price.

Crystal Palace have long been linked with a move for Dann and Norwich City have reportedly joined the chase for the centre back although those reports were yesterday denied by Canaries manager Chris Hughton.

Bowyer, meanwhile, said it would be ‘wrong’ to discuss any bids that may have been made.

But he did say: “There are clubs interested in Scott Dann.

“But until they meet the valuation that the club has got on him, and until that is put in writing to the club, it is pure speculation.”

Asked what would happen if a club met Dann’s valuation, Bowyer said: “That would be a decision for the people above me to make. I could only advise them on my opinion.”

Hughton insists Norwich have not made an official approach for Dann.

He said: “I want to deal in fact and we have not made a bid for Scott Dann.”

Dann will miss tonight’s trip to Barnsley with the Achilles injury which also ruled him out of Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Derby County.

Bowyer said: “He’s not trained today (Monday) so if he doesn’t train today he can’t be in contention for a game on Tuesday. It’s as simple as that.”

Bowyer is continuing his attempts to bolster his squad – and there is still the possibility he could bring in a loan signing before tonight’s clash with Barnsley.

Rovers have been linked with Cardiff City winger Craig Conway and Leeds United striker Luke Varney but while Bowyer is believed to be an admirer of Conway it is understood he has not made an official approach to the Bluebirds.

Bowyer did confirm, however, that he has been in touch with Premier League clubs about the possibility of bringing ‘one or two’ players in on loan.

The Rovers chief would also not be drawn on reports linking Montpellier’s France U21 midfielder Bryan Dabo with a move to Ewood Park.

He said: “We get links with lots of players. When we’ve got something to announce we’ll let you know straight away.”

Summer signing Matt Kilgallon will, for the second match running, take Dann’s place at Oakwell tonight.

Bowyer said: “There was a lot of speculation with Scott in the summer so we thought we had to bring a centre half in – and when someone of Matt’s experience and quality became available we acted quickly.

“Unfortunately for him he’s had to play a long waiting game but I thought he was outstanding on Saturday.

“He’s got Premier League experience and he’s left sided which enables Grant Hanley to go to his right side.

"Even though Grant does a great job on the left-hand side he is more natural on the right and it makes him a better player.”
