Sam Vokes scored for Burnley

Sam Vokes scored for Burnley

BURNLEY bossed this Championship clash from start to finish, but were held to a point after conceding against the run of play.

Despite the Clarets' first half dominance they had to wait until the 43rd minute to have anything to show for it.

Keith Treacy, Danny Ings, David Jones, Sam Vokes and Dean Marney all had chances - with Marney's perhaps the best of the bunch but the midfielder poked wide with the outside of his right boot with only Chris Kirland to beat.

Pressure eventually told just before half-time when Vokes received Marney's chipped ball on the edge of the box and slotted past Kirkland.

It was the least they deserved, but their lead proved to be criminally short-lived as they came up short at a set piece.

The defence switched off as Connor Wickham's free kick was twice headed on in the box, and Chris Maguire volleyed in at the left hand post to level.

Burnley didn't have the second half as much their own way as the first.

But they still had significantly more possession, and chances, particularly as the clock wore down.

Scott Arfield and Michael Duff both got in range, as did Vokes again, but it was Ings who came the closest to grabbing a second in the dying minutes.

The top scorer hit the base of the post after receiving Kieran Trippier's throw-in inside the box.

Ings then had a low shot saved by Kirkland in the last minute of the 90.

The Owls, who had Maguire booked for diving under Jason Shackell's challenge in the box, threatened in stoppage time, but Burnley defended stoically.

Their resistance led to another late chance for Ings, but Kirkland pulled off an expert save to tip over.

If Danny Ings had his shooting boots on it would have been a cricket score.

Hit the post, had one cleared off the line and should have won the game.

Onwards and upwards though and another point clear of tbe horse lovers, wonder if they are still dreaming of sixth place now they have had their **** handed to them by a genuine play off contender.

Fair play to Sheffield's defensive performance - twice cleared off the line, and I lost count of the number of top class saves their goalkeeper made. Another day, we'd have scored 5 or 6.

I can't help but feel that not beating relegation threatened Sheff Weds is going to be the start of a long and miserable outcome.
The board should hang their heads in shame, you failed to back Dyche and if we lose Trippier and Ings we will be stuffed.
Not happy at all
Deary me. Dyche wanted Barnes and good to see you have already written Barnesoff after a total of 15 minutes in a Burnley shirt you goon.

I am guessing you are another Blackburn inbred given your user name so enjoy your heavy defeat and contemplate your mid table losers.

Absolutely correct unmugged one. Little Burnley took 1,733 when we drew 1-1 with Forest on 23rd November. Now, let's see, that's 366 more or 27% more.
And Woavers lost 4 -1. We drew 1 -1.

1300 fans to a ' play off rival' (pmsl) when we took 1800.

1000fans to Yeovil when we took 1800.

Cheapest tickets in the league and still can't get 14k on.

Yes we got a point todsy so now we are a massive 14 points ahead of you set of mid table scrubbers.

Answer me this have your team that you laughingly call play off contenders actually beaten any side above you in the table?

No, hence why you are just a below average, overly reliant on one player run of the mill second tier side.

We've got bigger fish to fry at the business end of the table so run along and cry somewhere else.

I was trying to make the point that if the paper can't get the name of one its core towns and football clubs right, what chance does it have with its own, but clearly the point wasn't that clear (unlike Sheffield Wednesday's today LOL).

Dropping down the leauge now behind the mighty hoops go harry reds, seen you northern monkeys play you are rubbish team with stupid illiterate fans , lol, you must be if you think you are gonna get promoted, lol.

Folks like you are quick to point out the number of games left for the Clarets to blow it. I'd like to remind you of the number of games left for them to get it beautifully right. No breaks for you. Automatic promotion is well within reach while even a playoff appearance slips with the Rovers latest setback.

Didn't you draw against Wednesday at home uncle Albert?
Yeh but I'm not stating we will get automatic promotion am I, by the way this is the 9th comment on here and two r mine, where's your support? On the BRFC site no doubt!!!
Why support a Blackburn paper that gets facts wrong?

We created enough chances to win three games yesterday. On a different day it would av been a cricket score. I'd b worried if we weren't creating anything.

Well I'm seething, absolutely livid, I've sat on the fence long enough. I said that we should have backed Dyche and bought his first choice of Naccy Wels instead of digger barnes and what happens, the board cheaps out and buys digger instead, so 1,25 million bargain bucket Naccy slaps one in for huddersfield and Trigger Barnes looks like a 750 grand striker from the evo stick league.

I am guessing you are another Blackburn inbred given your user name so enjoy your heavy defeat and contemplate your mid table losers.
aren't burnley in the playoffs now ?
or did they win promotion at Christmas

Are you on drugs?

Yes, Burnley ARE in the play offs at the moment, let me ask you a question - would you swap your league position for ours?

Basically you are just JEALOUS!!

That's life Jim, but not as you know it.
