DANNY Ings and Sam Vokes combined to do the double over Yeovil and get 2014 off to a winning start in the Championship.

Top scorer Ings opened the scoring with a stunning finish, arrowing his 21st club goal into the top left corner after David Jones had won possession midway inside the Yeovil half.

With Yeovil lacking quality in the final third and Burnley unable to convert further stayed the scoreline remained unchanged before the break.

Burnley should have wrapped things up after Vokes rounded off a well-worked move, following good work by Dean Marney, by side-footing in from close range.

Further chances were either saved or squandered for the Clarets, and Yeovil reacted.

A bizarre goal for the struggling Somerset side made for an anxious finale for the Clarets, in which new signing Ashley Barnes made his debut from the bench as a late replacement for Ings.

Substitute Kieffer Moore crossed from the left, but the ball beat everyone in the box and sneaked past an unsighted Tom Heaton.

Yeovil worked hard for a second, but Jason Shackell worked harder still to put up strong resistance, including a brave block to stop danger an Ralls on the left hand edge of the box, to secure the win.
