BURNLEY’S FA Cup trip to Southampton will be another landmark moment for Jay Rodriguez and family.

After nine goals and an England call-up so far this season, the striker could face Burnley for the first time since his £7m exit in 2012.

Jay’s dad Kiko said: “We were down in Southampton at Jay’s house when we were watching the draw and we said, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if Burnley drew Southampton at Turf Moor?’ “Then Southampton came out and when Burnley came out against them we just couldn’t believe it.”

Rodriguez Snr admits he would have preferred a home tie for the Clarets.

“It would have been nice if it would have been at Turf Moor as there would have been more Burnley fans there,” he said.

“For that reason, I suppose a draw and a replay up at Burnley would be the best result for me personally!”

Kiko is unsure yet whether his son will play.

“Normal procedure with games is that he won’t know until the night before as to whether or not he’s starting,” he said.

“I’m assuming he will play some part as it’s a very special occasion for him.

“Myself and (Jay’s mother) Carol will be at the game. We are flying down and we are looking forward to spending some time with him.”
