CLITHEROE will face former Football League opposition when they make the trip to Darlington in Evo-Stik First Division North tomorrow.

Darlington currently sit fifth in the table and attracted a crowd of 1,514 for their 2-2 draw with Salford City last weekend.

They are currently playing their home games at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park after their financial problems forced them to move out of the 25,000-seater Darlington Arena in 2012, only nine years after the stadium was opened.

Darlington were relegated from League Two in 2010 and dropped out of the Conference two years later.

Their cash woes saw them reformed as Darlington 1883 that summer, and they were promoted from the Northern League last season.

But Clitheroe sit only four places below them in the table going into this fixture and will be raring to go after their New Year’s Day fixture at Bamber Bridge was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.

Blues boss Simon Garner installed striker Sam Heap as their first-team coach earlier in the week, with Jason Jones leaving Shawbridge due to a a change in work and family circumstances.
