Full-time: Leeds United 1 Blackburn Rovers 2

Lancashire Telegraph: DJ Campbell in action at Leeds DJ Campbell in action at Leeds

ROVERS moved up to 10th and within two points of the play-off places with a rousing New Year’s Day win at a Leeds side that were defending a seven-match unbeaten home run.

First-half goals from top scorer Jordan Rhodes – his 16th of the season – and on-loan striker Rudy Gestede – his first for the club – that were set-up by man-of-the-match Tom Cairney ensured Gary Bowyer’s impressive side made it back-to-back away victories for the first time this season.

It was also their second success over the Whites in the space of four-and-a-half weeks after they won the reverse clash between the teams at Ewood Park on November 30.

It was thoroughly deserved success too and, although Matt Smith gave Leeds hope with a tap-in eight minutes into the second half after a rare error from Tommy Spurr, ultimately Rovers could have won by more.

Boss Bowyer, whose bold 4-3-3 formation paid off handsomely, was delighted with the response to the home loss to Birmingham City and home draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

He said: “The disappointment of the last couple of games didn’t disturb them at all and they came into the game very confident on the back of how we played against Birmingham.”

See tomorrow’s Lancashire Telegraph for a full report and reaction.

Wow , a whole 1010 away fans for the relatively short journey to Leeds. Didn't dirty Leeds bring 7000 to Trampwood ?

Still, credit where it's due, a good result, well done.

Well, only 1,010 fans for the mighty Rovers away from home on the relatively short trip to Leeds. And the weeny, tiny, microscopic Burnley took 1,036 to Leeds. Amazing! Banter aside, very good win indeed.

Tremendous away victory to-day, and from all accounts well worth the three points. Welcome compensation after the Birmingham result. If only Rovers can show more consistency the play-offs are there for the taking. Team selection and formation was a real surprise packet which has paid dividends, all credit GB and the team..

Fantastic result, just goes to show what happens when you play positive and take the game to the opposition. Awful goal to concede yet again, and that needs sorting big time. But all in all we battered them, and that song should stick........ Sell Jordan Rhodes and there's gonna be a riot on your hands!

I'm not a 'boo' boy. Just a realist. Keep things in perspective, enjoy the win and look at it as three points further away from the relegation zone. Anything else is 'blue sky'. .

We don't think we'll be champions either.

Tremendous away victory today. I posted yesterday GB had to stop playing two defensive midfield players. I have to be honest I didn't see him playing 3 forwards. Hopefully GB has realised if we attack teams in this league we will win more often than not. Well done GB it took some guts playing the way Rovers did today. Excellent.

Somebody needs to tell DDD and Eckerslike then, see t'other thread!

Leeds 7 unbeaten at home, double over Leeds, back 2 back away wins and 2 points of the play off slots
What's not to like? Great New Years day!
Calm down big boy, don't make a mess in yer Y fronts just yet.

A good win yes but there's still a long way to go!
Yep, I agree with you, but just like Man U of old it looks like we aren't starting to play until the second half of the season (wink) as I have said all along.

GB now needs to make sure we sign Cairney and Gestede quickly, have them available for City for starters, if not the next league game.

Just going to enjoy the City game, a little light relief from the weekly slog, then it's back to work.

I'm not a 'boo' boy. Just a realist. Keep things in perspective, enjoy the win and look at it as three points further away from the relegation zone. Anything else is 'blue sky'. .

We won't use your form table, we'll use some others. Lets pick a number. How about last 6 games? Well that's 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat. Oh, you don't like that one? Well, twist yourself out of your sister and come and consider this; last 24 games. Won 13 Drawn 7 lost 4. If you add the last 3 games of last season (I copy you and create a number that fit's the need!) its won 16.

So, 2nd in the league eh! Back to your familial insert now, she's getting fretful.

Certainly Going to need a bigger trophy cabinet down at Turf Moor, there just won't be room for the January Runners-Up Shield alongside that huge Top of the Division in September Trophy !

And your mum called, she understands you are getting excited and is very proud that you are making some really pretty stuff, but please stop using all her tin foil and glue.

You must admit, Greenscreener, they're two cracking trophies eh! My Mum says that you can have some of the tinfoil too. She reckons that its great for reflection. You'll be able to reflect on just how much you've achieved as a club since the Walker Family dumped you into the hands of Venky. Smashing. Nothing is certain until the contract is signed, personally I would be very unhappy that Bruce made the amount public knowledge if this alerted other clubs to the availability of such a good player for such a small fee.

Perhaps we are giving them Best for free, or including a 50% sell on fee to sweeten this seemingly good deal ?

'Bubble pop' burnley eh?

Looks to me like the bubble has been patched up, re inflated and is floating away again.

Suck it up monkey t/ts!
Check out the form table, since the bubble popped you are down to 13th,
mega
We won't use your form table, we'll use some others. Lets pick a number. How about last 6 games? Well that's 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat. Oh, you don't like that one? Well, twist yourself out of your sister and come and consider this; last 24 games. Won 13 Drawn 7 lost 4. If you add the last 3 games of last season (I copy you and create a number that fit's the need!) its won 16.

So, 2nd in the league eh! Back to your familial insert now, she's getting fretful.

Mega!

Oh yes we do as it's exactly the same as ours.
