BLACKBURN Rovers manager Gary Bowyer insists his side have the creativity to break teams down even without their evergreen midfielder David Dunn.

Dunn, who turned 34 yesterday, missed the 0-0 Boxing Day home draw against Sheffield Wednesday with a hamstring strain.

But the former England international is hoping to be fit to face his former club Birmingham City at Ewood Park tomorrow.

Bowyer said: “Dunny has a chance of playing on Sunday.

“We’ll see how he is and hopefully we will have him back for the game against Birmingham as he has the quality to unlock defences.

“But I think we showed against Sheffield Wednesday that we could create chances without him and that we have the personnel to do that.”

In Dunn’s absence big summer signing Ben Marshall looked the player most likely to open up the Wednesday defence.

Marshall is in his best form since his £1m arrival from Leicester City.

Bowyer said: “Ben was excellent.

“He has got quality and we are now seeing what he can produce and why we have brought him to the football club.

“But he can’t rest on his laurels. He was man of the match against Sheffield Wednesday and he’s got to go and try and be man of the match against Birmingham too.”

Rovers supporters were calling for the arrival of Ruben Rochina against the Owls before the Spaniard’s arrival in the 81st minute.

Bowyer said: “It was difficult with how Sheffield Wednesday played to play with a number 10, so we tried to mix things up.

“It didn’t quite work for us but we’ve got a lot of games coming up so we’ve said all along it would be a squad game.”

Rovers captain Scott Dann, meanwhile, will be out to put one over of his old team tomorrow.

Dann, who like Dunn used to play for Birmingham, said: “It’s always nice to play against one of your old teams and as long as we can get the right result, I’ll be happy.”
