JORDAN Rhodes will not let transfer talk surrounding his future distract him from attempting to help fire Blackburn Rovers back into the Premier League.

The January window opens in 10 days’ time and Rovers’ 13-goal top scorer has already been linked with clubs in both the top flight and in the Championship. But Rhodes, who strengthened his reputation by netting the winner in Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Yeovil Town, is now well used to the speculation.

And he insists it will continue to have no impact on how he performs for Rovers, the club he has grown to love after his record £8m move from Huddersfield Town in August 2012.

“I just try and do the best I can in each game that comes along,” said Rhodes, who has now scored 41 goals in 70 matches in all competitions for Rovers.

“It’s funny because the transfer window is totally out of my hands.

“It’s not a matter of what ifs and buts and what I think about things because it’s totally out of my hands.

“I love going into Blackburn Rovers every day, I love the club, and the supporters are fantastic, as you saw on Saturday with over a 1,000 travelling down the weekend before Christmas.

“I love it here and until I’m told otherwise I’m a Blackburn Rovers player and I am happy to pull on the shirt.”

Rhodes does want to test himself in the Premier League.

But the 23-year-old hopes that can be with Rovers.

The win at Yeovil moved Gary Bowyer’s side within four points of the play-offs places ahead of this week’s home double header against Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City.

Rhodes is confident Rovers can get themselves in the race for promotion.

But he is not looking too far ahead of himself.

“We know we’ve got it all to do between now and the end of the season,” said the Scotland international striker.

“So we’re just taking it one game at a time. We’ve got Sheffield Wednesday next and hopefully we’ll be good enough on the day.”

It will be a family affair at Ewood Park on Boxing Day as Rhodes’ father Andy is Sheffield Wednesday’s goalkeeping coach.

“You think of all the fixtures in the Football League and it just happens to be that Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday are in the same division and that we’ve managed to get each other on Boxing Day,” said Rhodes, who has notched five goals against the Owls, including four in one memorable game at Hillsborough during his Huddersfield days.

“So I’m looking forward to Christmas and then to Boxing Day and I’m sure the family will be coming over in their numbers.”

Rhodes’ goal on Saturday left Rovers boss Bowyer purring.

“I said to Tony Grant half way through the first half that none of the chances had dropped to Jordan yet,” he said.

“He did eventually have one in the first half and the goalie made a very good save from him.

“But the finish was sublime, it’s a fantastic finish from somebody who does it so well.”
