THE last time Blackburn Rovers played at Yeovil Town, we won 10-0 and Egil Ostenstad scored four goals.

I guess it is testament to how far Yeovil have come since then, as well as another indication of how far we have fallen over the last couple of years.

That game was on November 13, 2000, for Warren Patmore’s testimonial.

Rovers had agreed to take part in the Monday night game as they were on the south coast two days earlier, drawing 2-2 with Portsmouth in the First Division.

That season, both clubs finished second in their respective divisions, Graeme Souness’s Rovers moving back up to the Premier League at the second attempt, while Yeovil missed out on promotion from the Conference in those despairingly unfair days of one-up one-down in England’s fourth tier.

On Saturday, 13 years and a bit later, we meet in the same league.

Just 10 points separate Rovers and the small Somerset town club, who are second from bottom in the Championship.

But the Glovers must not be underestimated.

Eight points from their last four games, seeing off Watford and Blackpool, are proof of that.

Rovers, however must use their recent form as a springboard.

The draw at QPR followed by three points against Millwall must be capitalised on.

Despite everything I have said above, we have to go to Yeovil and beat them.

We have a squad capable of winning as long as we cut out the silly mistakes and take the game to them.

Consecutive wins would be a real boost going into a Christmas week that will see us take on third-from-bottom Sheffield Wednesday and struggling Birmingham on our own turf.

And should we manage to win all three, perhaps we could go back to contemplating the possibility of a previously unlikely promotion bid.

It would be nice to see more of Rudy Gustede who will hopefully help to end the constant isolation of Jordan Rhodes up front.
