MICHAEL Duff says Burnley’s secret to survival at the top end of the Championship is not knowing when they are beaten.

The Clarets came from behind in the first half, after conceding a contentious penalty which David Nugent scored, to equalise early in the second through top scorer Danny Ings and earn a point at promotion rivals Leicester City.

Going into the game as leaders on goal difference, the draw opened up a one point gap at the top after the lunchtime kick-off.

QPR replaced them later in the day with a 2-0 win at Blackpool, who Burnley host next weekend, while Rangers face Leicester in another top of the table clash.

But Duf insists the Clarets will only concentrate on their own games, and have the confidence to keep their charge going.

“I didn’t think it was a penalty, but I think what we did well and what we do well is that we stay in games,” said Duff.

“A lot of teams would have gone under at that point, because they were right on top and the fans were with them but we dug in and stayed in the game.

“We got to half-time knowing that we could only really get better than what we were both with and without the ball.

“We didn’t start well in the first half. They started very well but they’re a good team. They’ve lost two on the bounce so we expected them to start well and they did.

“They’re similar to ourselves in the way we work and press. In the second half we were the team that looked to go on and win the game.

“The gaffer talks a lot about a framework and a shape to play from and that’s what we do when things aren’t happening.”
