Blackburn Rovers boss excited by right-back battle

Lancashire Telegraph: Gary Bowyer Gary Bowyer

BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is relishing watching a ‘great battle’ between Todd Kane and Adam Henley for the right-back spot.

Kane had been an ever present this season until he missed Saturday’s 0-0 draw at QPR through suspension.

The on-loan Chelsea man, 20, returns for tomorrow’s visit of Millwall to Ewood Park.

But there is no guarantee he will win his place back in the side given Henley’s display against Harry Redknapp’s title chasers.

The 19-year-old was outstanding as Rovers kept their first clean sheet away from home in 29 matches.

And Henley’s performance in marking former team-mate Junior Hoilett out of the game was all the more impressive given it was his first appearance in nine months.

Bowyer is delighted that Henley, who made his Rovers debut at 17, seems to be over the hamstring problems that have dogged him for most of the year.

Bowyer has known Henley since he was 12 and he always believed he would break into the first team.

“He’s progressed nicely throughout his time at the club, although he’s found himself slipping further back as he was a centre-forward to start with,” said Bowyer of a player he first came across when the current Ewood chief was in charge of the academy.

“He made his full debut at Anfield against Liverpool when we were in the Premier League. “He took to it like a duck to water.

“Unfortunately he picked up the injury last season and it took him time to recover.

“But the level of performance he put in against QPR was where he was before the injury.

“Adam’s had rotten luck but he worked tirelessly with the physios over the summer when everyone else was having a break.

“He’s had to be patient. But at the same he has been dying to get back into the first team. It’s going to be a great battle there.”

After his performance at QPR Henley should keep the shirt. He has had to wait for his chance, now it should be Kanes turn to be on the bench.

I notice that the cost of a season ticket to watch the mighty mid-table is being displayed in the photo. When the 14,000 member family get-together assembles bum-to-groin at your Palace of Tat os Saturday, you will surely be disappointed if you lose to the Millwall. You should win, but..........

Kane has been suspect in few games recently, Henley should be given a run.

To Jim 2012, barmy army 63 and juanbblen.

If you look in the photo at the head of the article you will notice that it says "Couple of Quid" repeatedly. I quipped that was the price of your season ticket.

When I wrote "the 14,000 member family get-together assembles bum-to-groin" I quipped that you are all each others relatives and that you have male-to-male sex together which is mass incest.

I then implied you may lose at home to the mighty Millwall.

Follow it with your sixth finger and read it slowly.

We like banter but you're just making a fool of yourself.

Back to the story, Henley has to start. Even if form of the two was equal you would have to play the Rovers man and not the loanee.

Actually you can't "live in the past", it's technically gone, just as your promotion aspirations will be before we kick off this afternoon.

History is just that, gone, learn from it but always look forwards.
