THE DAILY SPORTS DEBATE: What should the authorities do about 'spot-fixing'?

Lancashire Telegraph: THE DAILY SPORTS DEBATE: What should the authorities do about 'spot-fixing'? THE DAILY SPORTS DEBATE: What should the authorities do about 'spot-fixing'?

Alan Shearer says the football authorities should take a zero tolerance approach to players caught ‘spot-fixing’ in football - and the former Blackburn Rovers and England striker may just have a point.

The game has taken enough of a kicking over the past few seasons and the FA must stamp out this latest threat to the integrity of the national sport.

Maybe the bookmakers should take a look at themselves too.

You see adverts claiming the game doesn’t matter unless there is money on it...that is one thing that probably needs addressing.

Unfortunately it looks like Rovers can't get out of paying him from what I have been reading, bit like the bankers and their bonuses, all tied up in the contract.

One thing that puzzles me is that I had a clause in my contract along the lines of "If I did anything that could damage the good name of the company it would be treated as gross misconduct, a sackable offence".

I agree with Shearer though, if he is guilty he should never play again for anyone.

the issue old nick - is the presumption of innocent til proved guilty.

i have no idea what is in his contract - but i can only think he can be suspended on pay until the investigation/case is concluded.

if nothing to answer - back to normal. if wrongdoing - then i guess the club can seek to recover costs from the player (like adrian mutu at chelsea)

My vues may seem harsh to some, but sorting out any crime is easy.

The court should always issue Capital punishent to all convicted criminals.

This would stop the need for prisons, save the tax payer millions, and create a crime free society. As well as reduce our carbon footprint moving criminals around.

Or am I just to sensible?

No, you are far too much of a liberal. We should be able to hang those suspected of crime as well. Why mess about with the tiresome matter of convicting them? Think of the money we would save.

I have always wondered at the mentality of any footballer who removes his shirt, knowing that he will be booked, I now look at it as cheating.

Even you is too soft Bazzer. Why not hang everybody - then there would be no crime.
