QPR boss Harry Redknapp hailed his Blackburn Rovers counterpart Gary Bowyer after Saturday’s 0-0 draw between the teams at Loftus Road.

Redknapp, 24 years Bowyer’s senior and with more than 1,300 matches as a manager under his belt, was impressed by the tactics his opposite number used to frustrate his second-placed side.

“Credit to Blackburn, Gary did a good job in setting up his team and they made it difficult for us,” said Redknapp.

“They created a couple of good opportunities in the first half and I thought we were fortunate to come in all square.

“We created two great chances in the second half and, on another, day, they probably would have gone in but you’re not going to win them all.”

Rookie boss Bowyer, who deployed a 4-1-4-1 formation, was delighted by the response his side showed after going down to a 3-1 midweek defeat at Ipswich Town.

But despite seeing them become only the second team this season to take a point off QPR at Loftus Road, it was a result which was not without disappointment for Bowyer.

“QPR are a top team, who I expect to be promoted automatically, so for us to get our first clean sheet away from here means I have nothing but praise for the players,” said Bowyer, who had to substitute Josh King 22 minutes after coming on after the winger hurt his back.

“But having shown the standard they can reach it makes the disappointment of Tuesday a little bit harder to take.”
