FORMER Burnley midfielder Micky Mellon admits he is unsure on whether he will be handed the Barnsley manager’s job on a permanent basis as he prepares to bring his Tykes side to Turf Moor tomorrow.

Mellon guided Barnsley to a win over Brighton in midweek in their first match since David Flitcroft’s sacking.

He said: “I’m employed by the club and I’ve been asked to do a job, but I don’t really know what’s going on above me and what their (the board’s) thoughts are.

“But as long as I’m doing what I’m doing, well I’ll do the best I can. I’m enjoying it and we’ll just have to see what happens.

“I haven’t been asked the question (permanent deal) so obviously I’d have to sit down with people and discuss what was asked of me.

“Hopefully I’m the first to hear what’s happening.”
