DANNY Ings faces a race against time to be fit for Saturday’s visit of Barnsley, after missing his first game of the season in midweek.

An ankle injury sustained in Saturday’s loss to Huddersfield kept the top scorer sidelined for Tuesday’s goalless draw with Watford.

And Dyche said there was not yet any indication that Ings would be ready to return this weekend.

“We’ll see how it settles during the week,” said Dyche.

“It’s a simple injury but it was just too sore to get on with it," said the Burnley boss, who was again without Dean Marney.

However, the midfielder has made good progress and could be back in contention to face Barnsley, currently under the guidance of former Claret, Micky Mellon.

“He’s had a good few days so we’ll see how he develops this week,” Dyche added.

Ings has been linked with a move to Premier League side Liverpool in the January transfer window but the Lancashire Telegraph understands the Reds are not lining up a bid for the England under 21 ace.

Liverpool are without Daniel Sturridge for the next two months owing to injury but with are not believed to be pursuing another striker when the window opens next month instead focusing any spending on other areas of their squad.

Ings has a contract at Turf Moor until the end of next season.
