Burnley striker Ings linked to Liverpool

CLARETS top scorer Danny Ings is a target for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, a national newspaper has reported.

The New England Under 21 is said to be wanted as cover for Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

Ings has this season and next left to run on his current Burnley contract.

He is the club's top scorer with 15 goals, and scored twice for the Under 21s on his full debut last month.

Ings had been an ever present for the Clarets until Tuesday night's visit of Watford.

He sat out the game - a goalless draw - with an ankle injury.

More than a bit ridiculous - Ings is a good striker, and we all know that eventually he will leave for a Premier club. But LIVERPOOL - some sports editor is publishing his fantasies, methinks.

£10 million minimum - if they want him, he is young, English, decent in the air and has scored with either foot and has two in two for the Under 21's and 17 in total for this season.

Why is it ridiculous that a club like Liverpool should be looking at him?

As Charlie rightly points out he is a decent young player, but I think his evaluation, of a player who has basically had one decent season is a bit off the mark.

I suspect he will go for 5 or 6 million with more thrown in based on appearances.

If we are in the top 6 come January which we should be then tie him down in January on an improved deal with an extension to his contract. We can still sell him in the summer but on better terms for us and avoid the Charlie situation. We may also have a shot at making a fortune as well. Complete win / win situation.
We can still agree with him that he can go in the summer but he can give something to the club as well in return. Classic case of a bit of give and take which we see very little of in football at present.

And how do you think Jordan Rhodes is feeling currently?

If rumours are to be believed, he has instructed his agent to find him a new club in January as he feels he is too good a player to spend his career in the bottom half of the Championship with Venkys FC.

Who will score the goals to stop you being relegated then? Best? Goodwillie? DJ Campbell? Gestede?

Blackburn are in deep deep trouble, which is fantastic news and when brain doners like you come on this site and start attempting to wind up Burnley fans as we slip to THIRD in the table - it just makes you look even more stupid than I thought was possible.

Blackburn fans - their banter is almost as bad as their team.

Ings is a decent young player, but so far has only been successful this season. It's possible Liverpool MAY have a "punt" on him, but as they supposedly want back up for Suarez and Sturridge, I'd expect them to go for a proven Premiership quality striker rather than on an as yet unknown. A BIG part of Ing's success is based around his partnership with Vokes. It makes it even more of a gamble for L'pool to try and recreate that understanding with a player who's only according to be "cover".

And before others get too carried away, I'd look at the source of this story - a journalist who gets it wrong far more than he gets it right, was and is recognised as an ex Burnley manager's "mouthpiece", and tends to put out a n "anti Burnley" story every time the disliked ex manager gives Burnley fans something to laugh about.

Its a good job you are five points clear and, in the history of the game, whoever is top on November 26th always goes up automatically, and various other desperate attempts to get promoted before December have all us Rovers fans rolling in our seats.
Now we are watching you in freefall, down to third now and in the playoffs, just as I predicted, mystec megs got nowt on me

LOL freefall into the playoofs!!! The gap between us and 7th is the same as Rovers and the relegation zone :-)

Neil Lennon looking at Vaughan or Rhodes for a Jan purchase. The SPL should suit the flat track bully!

He'd be mad to leave in January to warm the bench for a Prem club. Best to have the experience this season brings then consider his options. If we go up, he can have guaranteed football every week in the Prem next year with us, then consider his options. If we don't, and he wants to go at the end of the season, then fair play to the lad, he's been great for us this season. As someone posted above, trying to improve his deal in January may be a wise move for Danny and the club, but I would say not at the cost of reinforcing the squad for a promotion push if we are still there or thereabouts in January.
