BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche said he would only look to the positives of Burnley's performance in a goalless draw with Watford.

It was only the second time this season the Clarets had drawn a blank, and the first time since February that they had been involved in a 0-0 game.

The point forced them out of the top two for the first time since September, but was enough to reduce the gap to top spot to one point.

Fans expressed frustration, but Dyche said: "I work in a positive manner.

“I don’t see the point in doing anything else and there were lots of positives.

“We have dominated a very good side, so there are really good signs of what we are about again and there’s no bad news for me.

"It was a dominant first half and we created a number of chances. Their keeper made a great save from Scott Arfield.

“In the second half the first 20 minutes levelled and then I thought we finished really strong, as we have a tendency to do.

“But we’ve had to make a lot of changes tonight and I thought the lads applied themselves very well and tonight we moved a point closer to the top, which is nice for us.”

Danny Ings' absence through injury was among the changes, with Kevin Long coming in to replace suspended defender Michael Duff. Junior Stanislas and Brian Stock started ahead of Michael Kightly and David Edgar, while Keith Treacy's inclusion out wide allowed Arfield to play just off lone striker Sam Vokes and fill the void left by Ings.

Dyche said he was "hopeful" Ings' ankle would recover in time for the top scorer to face Barnsley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
