Lancashire Telegraph: Sean Dyche was left frustrated Sean Dyche was left frustrated

Burnley slipped to third in the Sky Bet Championship table after a goalless draw at home to Watford.

The result saw Sean Dyche’s side make it five games without a win.

But it will be seen as a much-needed point for Gianfranco Zola and his Watford side who soaked up plenty of pressure in the opening 45 minutes before taking the game to the hosts.

Dyche’s side enjoyed the best of an entertaining first half, with Watford keeper Jonathan Bond equal to everything a much-changed Burnley could throw at them.

The keeper got down to his near post well just before the half hour mark to smother a Scott Arfield flick after a low cross from Kieran Trippier.

And Bond had to be alert again seven minutes later to flick a header from Arfield around the post after a tantalising centre from Junior Stanislas.

Keith Treacy stung Bond’s fingertips two minutes before the break with a long-range drive after cutting in from the right.

A minute later, the visitors registered their first real chance of the night, Cristian Battocchio seeing his shot blocked well by Burnley captain Jason Shackell.

Watford started the second half with much more confidence going forward and Tom Heaton was relieved to see Lewis McGugan’s volley fly straight at him after 55 minutes.

Sean Murray then went close three minutes later, the midfielder smashing a loose ball goalwards only to see Ben Mee throw himself into the path of the shot to block well.

Mee came to Burnley’s rescue again after 66 minutes, this time getting back to head McGugan’s shot off the line.

A flurry of second-half substitutions did little to raise the tempo of the game as Dyche and opposite number Zola - under pressure after a 3-0 home defeat to Yeovil on Saturday - looked to find the key to victory.

Burnley substitute Steven Hewitt looked lively and flashed a header wide from the edge of the box after a David Jones corner was only half cleared while Davide Faraoni had to be alert three minutes from time to divert a Trippier cross over his own bar with Sam Vokes in close pursuit.

Both sides continued to pour forward in the closing stages and Heaton saved a point for Burnley in the 94th minute with a near post block to deny McGugan.

It is truly a shame that we have been on this bad run, we are now averaging just the two points a game, which would see us on a measly 92 points at the end of the season.

I can see why the Blackburn emptyheads are laughing at us as they slump to yet another defeat at a place where we got three points at.

Very disapointing game and to be honest both teams were very poor - Watford next to charlton are the poorest tewam we have played this year - We do not have the squad to cover for injuries but we are where we are!

One thing for sure is Brian Stock to me is the worst player I have seen at Burnley for several seasons - a league 2 / nin league player at best - woefull distribution - any pass that made it to a Burnley player was played behind them when they were making advancing runs. This caused the player to have to check back and we lose all the imomentum. That was when it did not go ro a Watford player which was most of the time!!!. As soon as I saw Stock in the line up I knew we could not win - Poor everytime I have seen him and definately not of Championship standard.

Mr Keith Treacy frustrating, way of the pace, did not try hard enough - We all know there is a player in there but he struggles to get out - jad enough tries I I think now - Impact sub at best,

Stanislas - Did ok - just seema too lightweight
Arfield - Reasonable Game
Jones - My man of the match - without him we would have lost hands down
Mee- Fair game
Long - Solid duff may be worried?
Shackell - good game shame his heading was off from our set plays today.
Heaton - not much to do but what he had to do he did well
Trippier - Another good match best right back in League
Vokes - Great hold up/lay off play but for who?? - his game relies on a second striker - missed Ings

Not sure why Noble was not given a try

Summary - Poor display but the overrifing thought was that Brian Stock should never ever play for us again - I am sorry but hid dloppy/poor play caused us to lack cohesion and gave away ball too many times!!

Sorry WLYV but a return of four points from the last 15 is relegation form. Continue like that and you'll be lucky to get another 20 points this season, leaving you with a measly 56 points. Good luck.

And yet your boys have lost YET ANOTHER away game and are tumbling down faster than a Blackburn girl's undies when her brother comes a knocking.

i would save your good luck messages for your massively paid, underperforming set of mercenaries as they drag you closer to your annual relegation battle.

GB say's he cant understand it 'we aren't conceding at home!!! Did he forget they were at Ipswich? I think he is in the final stages of delirium and should be relieved of his duties before they come for him with a straight jacket. Burnley will be back to winning ways on Saturday. Whereas the Bricklayer will up with his tools and cement you lot. Can't wait for Saturday

One decent post on here, fair play to you. Disappointing result for me, can't afford to keep dropping points at home against teams out of form or who you would generally expect a top 6 side to put away. Most concerning is the goals have dried up a bit recently which points towards the team and not individuals.
Have performances dropped? Agree re squad cover and we know the situation if key players are missing therefore important not to get too upset at not winning every week. Be good to get on on Saturday though.
What odds Blackburn do us a favour?

And we have dropped to THIRD in the league. tell me FakeingDick, would you love to swap places with Burnley?

What are you going to do when Rhodes ups and leaves in January because his back is sore from having to carry the rest of the lazy-**** team to lower-midtable in the Championship.

Blackburn heading south faster than the M1.

Burnley might of only picked up 4 points from the last 15 on offer but look at the table venky boys. Burnley 36 points, venkey boys 23 points (mind the gap boys) even after just dropping 11 points over five games we are way head of you, just like last season lol lol lol

Burnley 10 wins and 2 loses from 18 league games this season

venkey boys 6 wins and 7 loses from 18 league games this season

"dropping like a stone" thickest fans in England lol lol lol lol come back when the season ends and not after just 18 games.
