Andrew Greaves: Defeat was always likely for the Clarets

Lancashire Telegraph: Andrew Greaves: Defeat was always likely for the Clarets Andrew Greaves: Defeat was always likely for the Clarets

So I guess it was always going to happen at some point.

But what I wasn’t ready for is some of the hysteria that has greeted our first defeat in what seems like an age.

Yes, we were under-par at Huddersfield and yes that is typical of the last few weeks when we’ve perhaps come up against a little bit more.

But it is certainly no reason to fly into a panic on the back of a single defeat.

It probably hurt more keenly than usual because so many Burnley fans had made the trip over the big hill but lets have a bit of perspective.

We’re currently sitting in second place in the Championship with 35 points to our name and we’ve only just hit December.

Yes, last week was difficult in terms of bringing in fresh blood but you can bet your bottom dollar it wasn’t for the want of trying.

We’re going to hit patches where things don’t go our way but if those patches are one defeat in 12 or 13 games then I’ll happily take them over a prolonged period of decline.

Every side in the mix has lost games and it was telling that QPR also suffered a loss yesterday at Doncaster.

Leicester City took full advantage but lets not forget that just before the international break they lost to Nottingham Forest at home. It happens to the best of us.

I think there was a lot to be disappointed about on Saturday but we need to make sure we react well this week.

Tom Heaton probably should have done better with Oliver Norwood’s spectacular effort and the linesman should have done a whole lot better with the penalty incident (which was neither handball nor in the box!).

We need to put all that out of our minds this week because we’ve got a big seven days coming up with two home games against struggling sides.

Gianfranco Zola’s Watford suffered a 3-0 home defeat to Yeovil Town and they certainly won’t be relishing tomorrow night’s trip up north.

And then on Saturday we have newly-managerless Barnsley who are firmly rooted to the bottom of the division after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at home to Birmingham City.

Wins against either are not a given but we really should be using those games to get back on form and taking advantage of their current misfortune.

Andrew, at last a sense of proportion. We lost a game and the fora are in a frenzy.
Let's keep our expectations under control and behave like adults. At the start of the season we would have been delirious to be where we are with our record.
You only have to be a b45t4rd to appreciate it - ha, ha!

Congratulations, you used English in all of the 14 words you wrote!
Now, concentrate hard and you'll see a few commas that need inserting - oh, and a full stop.
You're coming along nicely. Glad we are able to educate you!

So far, both played 17 matches. Burnley 10 wins and 2 losses, 35 points and 2nd . Blackburn 6 wins, 6 losses 23 points and in 14th position. I could get used to being in this position and seeing Blackburn go down!!!
