FULL-TIME: Burnley 2, QPR 0
5:05pm Saturday 26th October 2013 in Football
DANNY Ings was at the double to sink second placed QPR and stretch Burnley's lead at the top of the Championship to three points.
Ings broke the deadlock in the 65th minute, showing great composure at the end of a wonderful link-up with strike partner Sam Vokes.
Then, with the clock counting down, Ings was fouled by Joey Barton and converted the subsequent penalty, in the 88th minute, for his second of the afternoon and 13th of the season in league and cup.
The Clarets, who have now won their last eight games, had arguably edged a tight first half.
They certainly ended it on top.
Michael Kightly was wrestled to the ground by Karl Henry in the box, but with Dean Marney sending a stoppage time header over the bar after Kieran Trippier's cross caught him by surprise.
An early Henry volley had been Tom Heaton's only real test as Burnley kept ex-Claret Charlie Austin quiet on his return to Turf Moor.
Ings took centre stage instead. The top scorer fed Vokes around the edge of the box, the striker turned and laid on a delightful reverse pass for Ings to finish, leaving Robert Green well beaten.
It took the wind out of QPR's sails. Harry Redknapp's side had grown increasingly frustrated by Burnley's reslience, although the Clarets breathed a sigh of relief when Richard Dunne sent a close-range header over following a Barton free kick at 0-0.
The second goal knocked the stuffing out of them, and there was no hope of a retaliation in the five minutes of stoppage time after Ings sent Green the wrong way from the penalty spot.
