Burnley striker Ings ready for derby day test
DANNY Ings is already fired up for derby day, and he reckons Sam Vokes is too.
It was one of four goals the 23-year-old scored after being bought from Wolves in the summer of 2012. And Vokes has now forged a promising partnership with Ings.
Both were on the scoresheet in last weekend’s 3-0 win at Derby County, which took their combined tally for the season so far to eight from seven league and cup games.
And Ings would love them to lead the way to a long-awaited Burnley win next weekend.
“It’s a massive game, especially for the fans, and I can guarantee we’re going to put in a good performance for that one,” said the Clarets’ five-goal top scorer, who came off the bench in both derbies last season.
“I was gutted I didn’t get to start either one of those games last year.
“I’ve never been so excited for a game, and to try and do it for the fans would be good.”
Ings and Vokes were the spearhead to Burnley’s best spell of last season, contributing to three straight league wins while Austin was sidelined with injury.
Their partnership has continued to flourish this season – a key factor in the Clarets climbing to third.
“We’ve got a good understanding for each other, we know each other’s games.
“He just bullies people and I get the rewards for it!
“He’s great to play with and we do well for each other,” said Ings, who grew up watching Vokes at their first club, Bournemouth.
“We go back a long way. We both started at the same place and I used to watch him when I was really little and I used to really enjoy watching him play then.”
