Jordan Rhodes backed to find goalscoring form for Blackburn Rovers
JORDAN Rhodes has been backed to return to top goalscoring form as the Blackburn Rovers forward still searches for his first strike of the new season.
Rhodes has gone 12 games without a goal since finding the net at Birmingham on the last day of last season, although six of those games were pre-season fixtures and three others were from the bench for Rovers and Scotland.
The 23-year-old has been short of service on occasion in recent times.
But Rovers midfielder Jason Lowe is certain that all Rhodes needs is one goal before he is up and running again.
The former Huddersfield man scored 28 times for Rovers during his debut campaign at Ewood Park, netting seven goals in nine games during Gary Bowyer’s second caretaker spell at the end of last season.
And he came close to opening his account for the new campaign when he came within inches of scoring from a tight angle at Doncaster on Friday “Jordan is a proven goalscorer,” Lowe said.
“We struggled last year to a point and he came up with nearly 30 goals.
“When he gets a chance the lad usually sticks it away so that’s no problem, his confidence will be fine in front of goal.
“He probably just needs to get that first one and I’m sure he’ll go on from there.”
Rhodes has been linked with interest from elsewhere this summer but Rovers have received no bids for the striker.
Morten Gamst Pedersen does look set to leave Rovers, however, with FC Copenhagen moving closer to a potential deal.
Pedersen featured in Rovers’ Under-21 victory over Reading at Ewood on Monday night – along with Adam Henley, Yann Songo’o and Simon Eastwood – after the Norwegian asked to play to maintain match fitness.
Under 21s boss Eric Kinder said: “He came to me and said, ‘Eric can I play, I need 90 minutes’.
“He’s a top pro and he has been for 10 years.”
Rovers have been linked with Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven, who is said to be keen to move to England and has been interesting Leeds.
