Davies on Burnley radar
SEAN Dyche’s search for a new striker remains a work in progress ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday with the Clarets keeping tabs on Bolton striker Craig Davies.
The Clarets have been on the lookout for attacking reinforcements since Charlie Austin left for QPR on the eve of the new season.
A number of forwards have been linked with a move to Turf Moor, including Southampton’s Billy Sharp and Brentford’s Clayton Donaldson, although neither are thought to be Burnley bound.
Davies is the latest name to be thrown into the frame and it is understood Bolton could be open to negotiations, after making money available to sign Jay Spearing from Liverpool.
However it has been speculated that a £1million figure could be sought by Wanderers, who spent £300,000 on the forward when they signed him from Barnsley in January.
If that proved to be the case then it is likely the Clarets would be priced out.
But Bolton boss Dougie Freedman confirmed he had not been involved in any dialogue with counterpart Dyche.
“Nothing has happened. No phone calls have come in to me,” said the Scot.
“It won’t be a case of me moving people on. Naturally, I’ll look to improve my squad because I have a responsibility to the fans if I see someone of the right age, money and right career step for him to take. Likewise, there will be players who are not playing who need to go and find first team football.
“As I speak right now I’m not in any rush to let anyone go.”
Freedman added he did not know how speculation around Davies had surfaced.
“I’ve not heard anything from Sean Dyche, so I’m not sure where it has come from,” he said.
“It happens these days with agents. I have just bought the guy for a bargain £300,000 and maybe because Burnley have got a bit of money after selling Charlie Austin and they are looking for a replacement, that’s how it has come about, I don’t know.
“I’m certainly not in any rush to sell Craig. He’s a fantastic player who came at the right price for us.”
