CHRIS Taylor believes he has reached a ‘massive moment’ in his football career – as he bids to secure a regular place at Blackburn Rovers and realise his Premier League dream.

Taylor has linked up with Rovers for pre-season training after agreeing to join the club on a Bosman free transfer from Millwall in May.

The 26-year-old midfielder, who spent the early years of his career in League One, has joined Rovers with a real ambition to reach the top flight for the first time in his career.

But first he knows he must win a place in the side – and given the size of the Rovers squad he knows that will be no easy feat.

“I’m under no illusions how difficult it is going to be,” said Taylor, who has signed a two-year deal with the club.

“I’m prepared to bide my time if that’s what I have to do, but also of course I’m hoping to be involved from the start of the season.

“It is a big squad and there will be a lot of people disappointed not to play.

“This is a massive moment in my career now. I’m coming to a good age and hopefully I can be a Blackburn Rovers player for a long time.

“I’m delighted to be playing in the Championship for Blackburn and it would be an absolute dream to play in the Premier League with them. That is a massive ambition for me.

“I truly believe that with the players we have here we can give it a real shot. Blackburn is a club that is used to being in the Premier League and I believe it’s where the club should be.”

Rovers linked up for pre-season training last Thursday but Taylor arrived at Brockhall early to do some extra fitness work after missing the end of last season with a groin injury.

He hopes his versatility could be an asset and says he had no concerns about joining Rovers despite the upheaval at the club before Gary Bowyer’s appointment.

“That didn’t put me off at all to be honest, it never came into my mind, I just looked at the size of the club,” said Taylor, who played in Millwall’s FA Cup quarter final win at Rovers in March.

“I was speaking to Millwall and another Championship club, and I was umming and ahhing between the two.

“But as soon as I heard that Blackburn were interested my mind was made up, just because of the history of the club and the size of the club. From playing against them twice last season, the stadium is unbelievable.

“The manager did a really good job at the end of last season and I spoke to a few people who said really good things about him.

“I can play on either side, in a three in midfield or just behind a striker so I’m really happy to play wherever the manager wants me to play.”
