Venky's to blame for club's turmoil, say Rovers fans

EXIT DOOR: Michael Appleton leaves Brockhall after clearing his office yesterday. EXIT DOOR: Michael Appleton leaves Brockhall after clearing his office yesterday.

BLACKBURN Rovers yesterday said they were not surprised to hear the news that manager Michael Appleton had been sacked.

Many supporters were pleased to see the 37-year-old, who had been in charge for just 15 games, relieved of his duties after just four wins and a string of poor performances.

But a large number blamed Venky’s for the club’s perilous position, with Rovers hovering just four points above the Championship relegation zone.

James Maynard, 61, of Blackburn, said: “I think it is the right decision. He hasn’t done well enough since he came in.

“We need to bring in a decent manager this time instead of taking a gamble.”

Mr Maynard’s wife, June, 57, said: “If we don’t stay up then we have got to blame Venky’s. They just don’t seem to know what they are doing.”

Twenty-nine-year-old Mark Andrews, of Rishton, said: “I was not surprised when I heard about the sacking.

“We need someone bigger than Michael Appleton. But I don’t think Venky’s have any clue what they are doing.”

Meanwhile John Clough, 58, of Harle Syke, Burnley - originally from Darwen - said: “It is an absolute shambles at the moment. The players mustn’t have a clue what is going on. It must be some kind of record to have six managers in one season.”

Student Hammas Khan, 17, of Blackburn, said it was the right decision. He said: “Appleton deserved to go as the results had not been good enough. But I think Venky’s are to blame for the poor form as well.”

Fifty-three-year-old Bernard Walmsley, also of Blackburn, said: “I don’t know what they are doing at the top level.

“They are clutching at straws going for these inexperienced managers when there are more experienced people out there.

“They could have given it to Billy Davies last time but instead went for Appleton.”

Bernard Maloney, 66, of Blackburn, said he wasn’t surprised, especially after the bad football the team had played recently.

He said: “If we don’t win our next three games then we are in trouble. Sacking the manager was probably the right decision in the long term.”

Jerome Hayes, 33, of Blackburn, said: “Venky’s didn’t give him enough money to build a good team. Who is going to come in and replace him? They can’t just keep sacking people.”

Forty-five-year-old Stephen Manners said Appleton was the wrong person for the job.

While Blackburnian David Metcalfe, 28, said: “Venky’s need to buck their ideas up. I stopped going this season because Venky’s have ruined everything and I can’t see myself going back anytime soon.”

But Jamie King, 24, of Blackburn, said it was not the right decision. He said: “I am disappointed as they seem to have rushed into this decision.

And Richard Boardman, 26, of Darwen, said: “I disagree with the decision. Appleton talked a lot of sense and hasn’t had time to build his team.”

At BRFC, more than 100 employees have now been sacked, unfairly dismissed, with claims of constructive dismissal and hugh amounts of cash will be paid out through tribunals beginning today. Forget the football lads, this is what Venkys have done over the last two years. Once the courts hammer them hard for compensation, BRFC will owe millions and the door will soon close

Nonsense, the people have put bucket loads full of their own cash into this club and have been met with nothing but selfishness and ungratefulness by the most fickle "fans" in football.

It's amazing that they have stayed the length of time they have considering the hostility they have endured, including being physically assaulted with snowballs. It won't come as any surprise if they sell up to the lowest bidder and leave the placed totally riddled with unmanageable debt. You'll be wishing you'd have got behind them then.

Exactly the door will close and there will be no BRFC!!

Rather have Venks and hope they appoint a decent Chairman/Manager than lose Venky's and go into administration!!

Nobody else will bank roll it like they have...and as for blaming someone look at Anderson/Shaw and Shebby all of who picked the managers and all who convinced Venks to sign the wrong people.

We need to get the boardroom right, then they will appoint a decent manager and maybe, just maybe, we can move forward.

OR the other alternative push Venks out and go into administration....I know what i perfer!

good point , but one major problem , they have no money and all they are doing is selling the best players to help cash flow, they appointed shebby and co.who have wasted milions and once parachute money has gone, (even with 100% backin from the fans) , we are history

Anderson were running things then and for him to get his own man in (Kean) He needed rid of WIlliams/Finn.

I understand Venks employed anderson and they thought he was trust worthy but it turned out he ruined the club.

Venkys are majority shareholders for sure; and the other certainty is that they know absolutely nothing about football in England.

( before they bought Rovers they nearly bought Everton....because they play in Blue and White ! )

As such they are ultimately responsible; but the real culprits are those people who have milked their ignolrance and the clubs resources for their own gain.

i.e. Jerome Anderson, Paul Agnew, Derek Shaw and Shebby Singh.

The worrying thing is that Venkys don't seem to learn. Can't imagine they would put up with this in their other lines of business.

Get rid of the parasites.

In over two years Venkys have been advised by people who were incompetent and self serving. They approved the hiring of Shebby, Kean, Berg, Shaw, Agnew, etc. They approved the firing of Williams, Finn, Allardyce, etc. They obviously know nothing about running a football business but still do not have anyone in their employ who are capable of giving them good, reasoned, knowlegable advice on what to do at Ewood.
Being, supposedly, successful businessmen they should know that any successful company division is only as good as it's leadership, but in 2 years we have had no leadership at Ewood, or worse still, very poor leadership. This has been very apparent to everyone associated with football in England, but not to Venkys.
It seems that they have a Bengal Tiger by the tail and are clueless about what to do, and too arrogant to admit it.

I think it's time to start looking to form our own version of FC United.

It's so obvious that there is just a power struggle between Agnew/Shaw and Shebby Singh.

Unfortunately Venky's cannot make their minds up which side of the fence to stand on. Two months ago it ws Shaw and Agnew's. Yesterday it was Singh's.

To be fair to Venky's they have put money into signings for us but they have been seriously, badly advised in the signing of three quarters of these players.
Ths also applies to managers. It's obvious from who we appointed as manager over the past two seasons that they simply not been skilled and/or experienced enough to manage at this level.

You would think by now that surely they know they have been ripped off here, there and everywhere by so called agents, so called managers, back room staff, players etc.
And so hae us fans for having to watch the dire football week in and out.
But the main architect in all of this, is Singh.

Venky's. You need to sell the club so that we, (the paying people) can take it back and start enjoying our beloved team again.
But please please please make sure you sell it to people in the know of the game this time.

A Rover 45 years and over says...

I think Venky's have always meant well and been prepared to invest to a limited degree and have tried this season. The problem is that they have been surrounded by people who have given them poor advice from day one. If they had kept and listened to John Williams it might have been a different story. Venky's have allowed this board room split to fester by listening to one person then listening to another person before switching back again. and both men have made serious misjudgements that have cost a lot of money and seem to remain split. The way Appleton was given his notice by a brown envelope by a PA is a disgrace if true and the same about Shebby reported not to have spoken to Appleton if true. Gary Boyer may be a good choice to guide them to safety but not long term due to lack of experience. Venky's did support Appleton but again it was the wrong person. You can see us being relegated next season if not this and the club being left in a lot of dept unless Venky's bank role it and if not we are doomed.

Yes! In any other professional field of employment, it is expected that folk turn up to work and work to their optimum capacity, however there are always some who don't. They can be performance managed, but football is a different ball game! Hate Fergy at United but you need a extremely strong character to manage a footballers ego. Unfortunately, none at Ewood.

Why do the Burnley posters spend the majority of their time on BRFC stories?

The obvious answer is because they are thick; but underlying this it's probably because BFC are ultimately very boring.

Turf Moor's capacity is more than 22 000; yet the average attendance is around 14, 000. I know Burnley is a deprived area... but to read the Burnley fans on here you would think they were a well supported club....they are not.

Dyche is doing well to control the wage bills.....essential for the survival of any small club.

It is sad to see a once proud and succcessful club ( 1970's in the first division ) floundering in the middle of the Championship.....but every club finds it's own level.

Long may Burnley's mediocrity last.

Good point ,so why do they employ the disgraced Hendry on a reported 8,000 pounds a week confirmed ,when he has not even got a proper job at Rovers, he came in under the guise of "defensive coach" but in reality was Keans driver .
Other than hang around with Singh all day what is he supposed to be doing for all this money ?
Keans gone so surely Rovers don`t have to keep paying Hendry 8k a week to drive him around now.

Bergs will be in region of 0.5/0.6. Appletons will be in region of 0.9/0.8.
Plus his four staff.

To then get onto Murphy: IF he fails to 'turn up' again that will cost 1 mil+ to get him off books. Same goes fo Etuhu.

Don't you just love Burnley?

Decline and near oblivion (1976–1987)
Graph showing Burnley's performance from the first season of the Football League in 1888–89 to 2011–12 when they finished 13th in the Championship.Three non-descript seasons in the Second Division followed before relegation to the Third Division in 1979–80. Of 42 league games, Burnley could not manage a win in either their first or last 16. Two seasons later, now under the management of Brian Miller, they were promoted as champions. However, this return was short-lived, lasting only one year; albeit a year in which the team reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and the semi-final of the League Cup, recording victories over Spurs and Liverpool in the latter, although the 1–0 win over Liverpool in the League Cup semi final second leg was not enough for an appearance in the final as Burnley had lost the first leg 3–0.

Managerial changes continued to be made in an unsuccessful search for success; Miller was replaced by Frank Casper in early 1983, he by John Bond before the 1983–84 season and Bond himself by John Benson a season later.

Benson was in charge when Burnley were relegated to the fourth level of English football for the first time ever at the end of the 1984–85 season. Martin Buchan (briefly) and then Tommy Cavanagh saw the side through the 1985–86 season before Miller returned for the 1986–87 season, the last match of which is known as 'The Orient Game'. For the 1986–87 season, the Football League had decided to introduce automatic relegation and promotion between the Fourth Division and the Conference league, the top tier of non-league football. Although, in retrospect, this has only served to blur the lines between professional and semi-professional leagues in England, at the time it was perceived that teams losing league status might never recover from this. Additionally, Burnley had a new local rival in Colne Dynamoes who were rapidly progressing through the English non-league system at the same time as the former champions of England were in the lowest level of the league. After a disastrous season (which also saw a first round FA Cup 3–0 defeat at non-league Telford), Burnley went into the last match needing a win against Leyton Orient. A 2–1 win, with goals from Neil Grewcock and Ian Britton, was enough to keep Burnley in Division Four, although even that achievement still relied on a loss by Lincoln City in their last game of the season.

Keep up the good work Mr Dyche.

hi FBAW, yes agree but it dont half rankle that we get almost as much rubbish thrown at us from our own fans as we do from the Dingles...but then it is getting hard to tell who is who on here some of the views are that extreme.

I cant agree with you about us getting an experienced manager in - never mind what the month it is....surely people must see that the owners have proved time and time again that the one (perhaps the only) thing that they are consistent on is in selecting cheap inexperienced people to manage our club. That wont change.

But good luck to Team GB anyway, even if it is surely one step too far for him too...he is being set-up to take a tumble as we tumble out of this god forsaken league where everyone is rubbish apart from maybe two or three teams.

Any half-decent side would get promoted from this league as long as they showed some consistency over the season....that is what makes the season and the rubbish decisions the owners make so stupidly crazy.

Don't really see how people can say "yes, good decision to sack him, but Venkys are idiots". If they've sacked him surely thats a positive step that they are actually keeping track of performances. Under SK it seemed like Venkys never saw the performances hence why he never got the sack.

Venkys stick by a manager, it dosent work out, we get relegated, everyone hates him, we complain. Venkys sack a manager who we dont like, we complain.

Obviously barring sacking John Williams & pals, Venkys havent done a whole lot wrong. They've invested more money than the Jack Walker trust ever did & cleared our debt. Had they left the management structure intact and invested to the same proptortion they have done to date we may be hailing them as fantastic owners. At the end of the day we've always said Venkys can raise thier reputation by consulting the fans more and being more open about the way they run the business. All it takes is for them to hire a good manager with good backroom staff, get us back looking like a fighting club and keep the cash flow coming in. Most clubs would dream of owners with this kind of cash. If Venkys do sell up it will destroy Rovers so it's pretty much like it or lump it at the moment.

Correct, isn't Kean taking legal action and Berg has the Managers Association involved.

I would suspect that Appleton will take the same route, I would.

Unless there is a subsection in their contracts that states quite clearly that "We can sack you anytime we like and not pay any compensation" then Venky's, as the owners of the Club don't have a leg to stand on.

My concern is that any decent, experienced manager who might be considering the job will take one look at what has happened with Kean, Berg and possibly Appleton and simply walk away.

Two points. I don't see anyone - media or fans - moaning about Nottingham Forest having appointed 3 Managers in the last few months and secondly look where it has got them i.e. in a play off place. Yes Venkys have to find the right guy but some of this hype is totally over the top. I was glad to see the back of Appleton - he shouldn't have been appointed in the first place and yes that's the Venkys fault - but they may just get it right this time. There isn't a viable alternative anyway to their ownership. All this talk of a fans' consortium is woeful. There wouldn't be the finance to run the club week in, week out so you can forget that as an option. Lets get behind Gary Bowyer and see the season through. Staying in this is the priority. If we achieve that - which I believe we will - there will be Managers willing to come to Ewood. Money talks and its not their reputation that's on the line given the last few months. Its a No Lose scenario for them; its the Venkys who will be under increasing scrutiny but memories are short. If success follows - some would say a big "if" - then all will be forgiven. That's just the way people are.

Rovers and Appleton have already agreed that he will get one years salary as dismissal money - which is 500k.

Get your facts right stirrer.
Afternoon Mr French, unfortunately and you should know this by now, there are to many people on here that love to talk absolute c*** and just try and stir trouble. Appleton had to go which is sad but we must get an experienced manager during the summer. June not August ideally so he has a full summer with his squad. Lets wait and see who comes and ignore all the rubbish press reports linking us with every manager that has ever walked. Hopefully Shebby will keep it shut until he has something concrete to say
hi FBAW, yes agree but it dont half rankle that we get almost as much rubbish thrown at us from our own fans as we do from the Dingles...but then it is getting hard to tell who is who on here some of the views are that extreme.

Everyone in Lancashire and the rest of the UK know Blackburn have poor supporters that rarely travel. Home games these hangers on will jump at the chance for United or Liverpool at home (even though the away team has over 7000). Blackburn inherited a load of new fans and hangers on 20 years ago under the Jack Walker boom. Last 10 years these tickle fans have disappeared by to their villages. Small club again, just like in the 1980's with Simon Garner. Don't ever tell anyone else you are a major Premiership team. You are a joke. And your fans are awful.

Burnley have an estimate 10% of their population on Turf Moor. Bolton always have solid support home and away. And at the moment Blackpool have better support than Rovers. Don't starting saying otherwise. Everywhere you go you take a small following.

See you at Deepdale next season. That's if you can travel this far.

THIS!

You see, what he's accidentally done is give you lot ideas above your station.

Now you all seem think you DESERVE to have a good side. You don't. You deserve exactly what you've got. A succession of bald headed, clueless managers whose only skill is to tell lies and talk absolute sh*it.

You can't just BUY success long term. You have to earn it. Where do you lot get off thinking you deserve to be in the big League with the PROPER football clubs? You don't. You need to get real.

You're just a **** pot Northern barnacle of a town. And you're a set of MUGS.

It's the descent from glory to the current sh*it pot status that hurts you the most. And don't try to give it the big one about "34 years" because I can tell you're well gutted.

You see - none of this misery would have happened if Jack had paid his tax. In a way, the reason you are suffering today is because of Jack Walker.

But I can see WHY he went to Jersey I suppose. Who'd want to stay anywhere near Blackburn?
Well it's good to know there are some brainless morons reading these posts! You obviously know as much about football as Shaw, Agnew and Singh - absolutely nothing!! Now be a good boy, see the nurse and get your medication.

But I do agree with you that every club finds its own level. Yours is clearly 3 points below us.

The Venkys aren't the ones to blame.

I think the problems at Blackburn started with Jack Walker

Jack Walker lived in Jersey and he no doubt paid less tax there then he would have had he lived on the mainland.

He blew this extra cash funding his favourite football club. And after a little bit of glory what happened?

On a proper note, until the Three Stooges leave, there is no future for OUR club. The owners are beneath contempt too.

SHYSTERS GET OUT OF OUR CLUB
You fans are just delusional thinking that this is the fault of the Venkys.

It's JACK WALKER's fault.

If he had been a good boy and paid his taxes you wouldn't have these ridiculously high expectations. Walker has ruined you and he's made you the rotten filth you are today.

You need to purge yourself of these delusions of grandeur and I know how to do it.

Back in the day they exhumed Oliver Cromwell and then HANGED him. They should do the same with Jack Walker.

For

a) not paying the correct amount of tax

b) probably being a dirty old nonce at the kid's home

c) crimes against football, ie making you lot of deadbeats think you've got a future (you haven't and you are all deadbeats. Live with it)

Only when you see his decaying corpse hanging outside the town hall will you be forced to realise the humiliation that HE inflicted on you

But don't just take MY word for it. I asked 1000 Londoners and I took a poll. They agreed this should go ahead. And remember Londoners' are proper people and their London opinions can be relied upon - not the opinions of a few mugs from a small town in Lancashire
what an absolute plonker you are,,l suggest you do your research on super Rovers,,thats if you can read,,,

Errr, sorry but the average settlement for dismissal is just over 2.5 k so if all your cases are won it would only be 2/3 million max to pay out Just to put a true measure on it, enough scare stories all ready....
2,5 k for 3 mangers this season each ??? no way.... kean will be after at least 1 million and APP contract was for 2.5 years so he wont accept 2.5 k , it ll cost 3 million just for the managers we've have this season . the point is it is poor decisions from the top, they appointed and must take responsibility for time after time bad decisions.

Any half-decent side would get promoted from this league as long as they showed some consistency over the season....that is what makes the season and the rubbish decisions the owners make so stupidly crazy.
come on frenchy you seem to be getting a bit extream , with some of your comments yesturday and today your going to be agreeing with DANGEROUSE DAVE soon were your spin lolololololol ???????????????
thx for pointing that out Benal13, I must admit I have been so fed-up with the latest events that I kind of lost it a little...my sense of reason I mean - not my love for the Rovers that is there always. I honestly do not know what will happen next and I dont think the Venkys do either which is the really scary bit regards the future of our club.

Surely to goodness now someone somewhere with a few bob must be thinking they can do a better job than the Vs with our club? The prem money on offer for tv rights etc is absolutely staggering and must be attracting interest from many places and many investment groups that surely must be better prepared and to run a professional football cub than our current odious owners....

Like them or hate them we need Venky's at the moment. T
he demise has been maily caused by incompetent advisers and the appointment of third rate local management. Re Appleton he hardly set the team alight and was a poor choice from the start, the same with berg. Kean was the main problem and the fact he was in the seat too long! An experienced Championship manager is needed now and a team blended with grafters and skills. No more chancers, learners, or failures from the Premiership as manager.

Seriously no respect for Rovers fans.

I dont care who you are, or whether you think I'm right or not.. Venkys are to blame for this situation and deserve all the cr@p they get! Just because we would go into administration if they left doesnt mean that they deserve all the ridicule any less!

Imagine this... If you was to knock down a perfectly good, solid wall and build it back up as cheap as possible without sand & cement, the wall is inevitably going to be unstable. If this wall was to fall and kill someone, throwing money back at it to build it properly will never bring back the life.

Venkys have gone about running our club on the cheap in the hope they would get lucky with a cheap manager and cheap players. It could have happened, would have been amazing if it did, but it didnt. THEY were the ones who stripped our perfectly good board to pieces and replaced them with numpties. So I (with the season ticket I paid for) am going to continue to hate the venkys for what they have done to us.

RTID or until Rovers dies...
