Derby draw was fair says Rovers legend
10:23am Monday 18th March 2013 in Football
By Alex James, Assistant Sports Editor
FORMER Blackburn Rovers striker John Byrom felt a draw was a fair result after David Dunn rescued a point for Michael Appleton’s side in a pulsating East Lancashire derby.
The Clarets took a first half lead through Jason Shackell but then had Ben Mee sent off in the second period and eventually succumbed to a last minute equaliser from Dunn.
And Byrom, who played nearly 150 games for Rovers during two spells with the club, felt Rovers’ second half performance merited a point.
He said: “I thought Burnley were in control for large periods of the game, particularly in the first half but after the break I thought Rovers were much better and in the end I think 1-1 was a fair result.
“It was a good game and played in a good spirit. It was a scrappy game and I think a draw was about right in the end.”
Former England striker Byrom admitted he was especially pleased to see Dunn score the goal for Rovers.
“I am so pleased that David Dunn managed to score the equaliser because you could see how much it meant to him. He is the only local lad in the team and it was great to see him get the goal.
“He gave 110 per cent and was rewarded with the goal at the end. I think both sides will probably be happy to get a point out of it.
“Rovers certainly will be after being behind and Burnley would probably have taken a draw before the game”
Byrom felt the red card handed out to Mee for his second booking in just eight minutes was a tad harsh, and admitted it had played a part in allowing the home side back into the match.
He added: “Honestly I didn’t think it was a red card but the game has changed a lot since I used to play and these days I guess the referee has to give it as a second yellow card.
“I didn’t think Blackburn were going to find a way back into it until then but the sending off changed the game and the back-pedalling and extra defending Burnley had to do eventually helped Rovers get the goal.
“They had all of the ball towards the end of the game and you just felt they might be able to find a way through.
“It keeps up the unbeaten record against Burnley as well which will please the Rovers fans.”

Isn't it a pity that the League won't take into account your precious record when it relegates the teams with the lowest three points totals?

So it was a good game and it was a scrappy game. I wouldn't trust this senile old fool to look out the window and tell me if it was raining or not.

i feel no sympathy for burnley - their players were constantly rolling around in the second half wasting time (obviously a pre-ordained brief from the coaching staff). luckily for rovers the ref chose, quite rightly, to play 6 minutes added on, which cost burnley in the end. maybe a little less rolling and dingles may have got away with it.

Anyway disgraceful behaviour from the cave dwellers.
Smashing up the toilets,
Smashing their OWN coach windows,
Cowardly beating up a lone steward and abusing a disabled supporter.
Absolutely disgraceful and an embarrassment to all football supporters nationwide.

I still believe player for player we have one of the best squads in this division
yet we see the same rubbish week after week.Appleton must take the blame for this. He picks the team he decides the style nof football we play and tactics we use.On sunday when burnley went down to 10 men he should have changed tactics immediately yet we continued playing negative defensive football.
Keane Dann Hanley and Rhodes have performed exceptionally well this season Note three of these are defending.
Dunn has played well in his limited outings.
Appleton appears incapable of motivating players and is tactfully incompotent.
Shaw Agnew and Singh have alot to answer for this mess but no doubt they will continue to draw their huge salaries regardless.
Pity they are not paid on performances - they would now be bankrupt.

I can't see where our next win will come from and to be honest, we could quite easily find ourselves struggling to stay up at the end of the season.
Just scraping a draw against 10 men at home is nothing short of disgraceful.

The Dingles come on here and say things such as they are not bothered about the 34 years, and how much they hate the Rovers etc etc...
Why is it that when they were last in the Prem league, the highlight of their season was either playing us or when for a brief stint they were higher up in the table than us, same story when we get relegated. The Dingles do secretly look up to the Rovers. As for yesterdays result, you lot played a Rovers side which was poor in every way and still could not win!!!!

" Since Rovers are one of the few teams in England to win the Premiership.....it shows you the progress we have made at Burnley; to get a draw at Ewood is a magnificent achievment. I don't think it will be that long before Burnley are playing amongst Europe's elite. "
He went on to say.........
" The fans got a bit over excited and smashed the bogs up at Ewood..... but who can blame them ? Burnley is traditionally an absolute sh*t football club; so the supporters got carried away with scoring a goal at Ewood. They are a credit to the club. "
Burnley are and always will be a joke.

You are just 3 points ahead of us, we have a game in hand.
I watched you play Hull last Monday, probably the worst game I have seen in 20 years, Burnley were far worse in that game than Rovers were yesterday.
The difference is we know we are crap, you lot are living in cloud cuckoo land if you think you are any safer than we are.
Nearly all the teams at the bottom have started playing well and are picking up points, while teams at the top and in the middle are loosing form.
This season has a hell of a long way to go yet.

" 3 grown men attempted to kill themselves in the toilets when Burnley scored by smacking each other over the heads with toilet rolls. The men were so fat that they ended up causing a lot of damage to the toilets; but remained unharmed themselves "
Police have given them a warning and told them to stay in with their mummys in Burnley for the next few weeks.

Now I have the technolgy(Rampant Rabbit). You watch the the playback and pause(Slow motion it) on the point of contact prior to the ball going through to Dunn. 3 players offside end of.
Now the ref may have not seen it but the linesman would have but he was too weak , too scared to do his job . Not only the ref with blue and white specs on !!!
As for Rhodes getting a size 10 in the head , well what do you expect when he puts his head down low. Any lower Duff would have been getting a BJ, so the ref got that one right.
I have contacted the British Diving Association to let them know there is a guy at BRFC called Dunn who's better than that Tom Daley.
Robbed again not by BRFC but by weak officials.

Not sure about your England point either. Matt Le Tissier only got a few caps and I don't think he scored (could be wrong) but if you polled the majority of football fans in the UK and asked them who was the better player, they'd say Brian who?
The FACT is that you are not in the Premier League any more, nor are you going back anytime soon. With your wonderful owners and your "ARMY" of supporters jumping ship in droves, it is you who are screwwed!
