Ings: 'Burnley can make history on derby day'

Danny Ings
DANNY Ings has called on all Clarets to “make history” on derby day.
While Burnley are mindful of the 34-year gap since they last came out on top of the East Lancashire duel, they are equally aware of the need to improve current form.
Ings feels they are capable of overcoming both obstacles at Ewood Park on Sunday, and giving themselves and the fans the lift they need for a positive end to the season.
And the forward says ending more than three decades of derby hurt would be the perfect tonic.
“It’s going to be a tough game but it’s a good one for the fans and us,” said Ings.
“It will always be good to make history as a team – for ourselves and for our fans.
“Sunday is the perfect game to have after the run we’ve been on.
“It’s a massive game and everyone wants to play in the derby.
“The lads are looking sharp and hungry. We want to put all the bad games behind us now and look forward.
“We’ve spoken about what needs to be done and we’ll look to go on a good run.”
Burnley countered a strong start to 2013 – beginning with three straight league wins and clean sheets to boost play-off hopes – by slipping down the table following a run of only one win in nine.
But Ings is confident the Clarets are ready to come out on the right side of that rut, which includes Monday night’s 1-0 home defeat to Hull City.
“You never know what’s going to happen in football.
“We went on a very good run then when on a bad run – every team does that – but hopefully the other night was the last one on that bad run for us,” he said.
“Blackburn will be disappointed they didn’t get through to the FA Cup semi finals and are going to look for a reaction on Sunday. But I’m confident we can match whatever they’ve got, and beat them.
“It’s all about whoever turns up on the day. But with it being their home game in a way there is more pressure on them than us.
“We just have to go there with clear minds. If we do that we can come out on top.”
Ings felt they were close to over-coming their derby hoodoo when the teams first met this season at Turf Moor, in early December.
“It was a great atmosphere – the fans were fantastic,” said the 20-year-old, who played his part in securing a late 1-1 draw after coming on as a second half substitute.
“The game was quick with a sharp, high tempo and a good standard.
“We had chances where we could have won the game – their keeper pulled off some good saves.
“We got a late equaliser but over the whole process of the game we could have won it.”
Of their prospects this weekend, the former Bournemouth forward added: “They’ve got a great squad, having just come down from the Premier League. They’ve got great players, but so do we.
“Charlie Austin is an out and out goalscorer, the same as Jordan Rhodes, but hopefully we can keep him quiet.”

Venkys have spent the most on transfers out of all clubs in the championship.
They also offer you the cheapest season tickets in the league.
What on earth can you moan about now?

Each time manager, players and the 2 jerks who do the commentary on clarets players. After each slip up for instance the Brighton game " Burnley now have 3 out of the 4 next games at home and win those and we can be back in the mix for the playoffs"
Well 1 point , yes 1 point came from those 3 home games. They talk themselves up ready to step on that proverbial banana skin.
Another disappointing season really. The way we are playing has had an effect on CA scoring chances. Yes he has been out injured and yes a player can have a dip in form but to me he isn't getting the service he was getting previously. I really thought he would have been pushing 30 plus goals by now when looking at his scoring rate before xmas.
Hull came down wth Burnley and look where they are. They have had Investment since coming down , why can't we entice big investers into the club. I know It's easier said than done but I would just like to think that the current chairmen are searching for this investment.

I will just take the time to explain a major point that you seem to be missing. It is most likely not the only thing you are missing, judging from your @sshole response.
Chelsea are NOT in the Championship, they are in the Premier League.
Your Beloved Blackburn Rovers are in the Championship, honestly.
Your Beloved Blackburn Rovers spent more money in the summer of 2012 than any other Championship Club.
Your Beloved Blackburn Rovers offer the cheapest season tickets in the Championship.
Chelsea have nothing to do with it.
Understood? ****.

Have heard all that kind of talk in the build up to previous games since we started on this downward slope , well infact leading up to all games. I have to agree with you being a voice of reason and smetimes believe it or not so is Hasslem :-))) Bet he'll be back at this latter comment lol.
Sad to say that my name refers to the lengthy time I have been a Clarets fan which sadly will end after this season feeling "enough is enough".
Having been brought up in the shadow of the Turf surrounded by some of the great names of the past who used to be in lodgings round the Brunshaw Road area it was only natural that at the tender age of 5 I was taken on the Turf for my first game which was when the 'bug struck'. So after 63 years of 'trottin' t'Turf' it will all end this May.
Continual lack of unimaginative style of football has finally bored the pants off me and high command (the latter unfortunately still says "No I have a headache). Looking back I feel my discomfort began when we went up to the Premier when constantly walking down Belvedere Road my thoughts would be "How many will we be beaten by today?". Relegation back to the Championship was somewhat of a relief in the belief that we would at least be seeing competitive play from the lads. However, with the departyure of Coyle, the Boards ineptitude in choosing his successor (can't blame Laws for saying yes, after all he is a Claret through and through). Following the Boards choice of Howe and then his departure and then apponting Dyche has added to the slump in my shoulders. Yes Dyche has plugged a lot of the leaks that led to goals against but his negative tactics have also closed our ability to score goals. Combine this with his woeful use of substitutes (Vokes and Ings in particular) the time has come to say "Farewell to the Clarets from a long standing pair of supporters. I don't blame any one individual manager because there is on common denominator amongst all these and for the first time I have to say it is "Because of the unambitious Board". Still UTC

I'm all well and good down here on the coast.I first saw Burnley play 42 years ago aged 9 at Pompey. My brother took me who was a clarets fan(long story) but I was a Liverpool, West Ham fan. I loved football and supported anyone really untill I went to my first ever game and just fell for the clarets not bad is it being born and bred in Portsmouth ;0)
When I lived up North I watched them at the turf every home game and away, work permitting. When I moved away I would make regular trips up there staying at the sparrowhawk, keirby and many other places. Being in the Army at times I wouldn't get to see a game for months.
Since our fall from the Premieship we have been treading water and at times just managing to stay afloat and I feel lacking ambition. I know spending money to try and stay in the Prem would have been a gamble but they could have spent a little bit more than they did as sometimes you need a take a gamble after all isn't picking a manager a gamble?
I have been disappointed each season since. Other clubs seem to be attracting investment and actively seeking It . I know we don't see or hear too much from the board but I would like to think they are doing the same but nothing seems to the clubs way.
It is so obvious you have to invest money to get to the Premiership and you need to spend more to stay there once your in it to give yourselves a chance.
I'm just getting tired with what seems like a club being run to survive in the championship and provide the board
members with a season by season top up for there pension fund.
Glad to hear from you Vintage lets hope that both teams make it a cracking game come Sunday.
You take care fella.
