Norton United 1 Padiham 2

PADIHAM moved four points cleared at the top of NWCL Premier Division but they left it late to seal victory.

The Storks, who went top for the first time in their history last weekend, had to come from a goal down after Mark McDonald had given Norton a half time lead with an 18th minute strike.

Padiham drew level 13 minutes in to the second half when a corner caused chaos in the home team’s defence and Keiran Fletcher’s goal-bound effort was handballed by Sam Bradbury on the goalline.

The Norton player was sent off and Ben Allen stepped up to convert the resulting penalty to make it 26 for the season.

With a man advantage, Padiham pushed for the winner and it finally arrived just two minutes from time.

Joe Garvin found Allen and this time the scorer turned provider to lay the ball on for Keiron Pickup to plant a shot beyond Richard Brandon in the Norton goal to secure victory.

The game ended with Norton player Delroy Fox and manager Scott Dundas both being sent off before the final whistle after remonstrating with the referee.
