FULL-TIME: Charlton 0, Burnley 1
5:15pm Saturday 2nd March 2013 in Football
CHARLIE Austin's first-half strike was enough to earn Burnley their first win in seven games.
The Clarets top scorer produced a goal of the season contender in the 43rd minute with a right foot rocket into the top right corner.
Burnley had taken the game to Charlton, who had lost their previous three home games, and dominated the first half.
Martin Paterson had the ball in the net but had strayed offside, similarly when he was denied by the crossbar. Austin had an earlier header comfortably saved by David Button.
Junior Stanislas and debutant Alexander Kacaniklic were lively on either flank, and caused the Addicks defence problems.
But it wasn't until two minutes before the break that Burnley had something to show for their efforts.
Austin's 25th goal of the season was arguably his best so far as, from 25 yards, the striker fired a stunning right foot shot into the top right corner.
The Clarets came under pressure in the second half, with Charlton desperate to end their home hoodoo.
But despite countless balls going into their box, Burnley defended stoically to hold onto their lead and clean sheet for a welcome win.
