Best on target for Blackburn Rovers reserves
3:34pm Monday 25th February 2013 in Football
LEON Best took a step nearer his long-awaited Blackburn Rovers first team competitive debut with a goal in the reserves' 3-1 defeat at Middlesbrough this afternoon.
The former Newcastle United man has been out all season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury but played almost 80 minutes for the second string today as he continues his bid for fitness.
Best won't be involved in tomorrow night's Championship trip to Leicester City but is expected to be in contention for a place on the bench for Saturday's visit of Peterborough.
Best showed good composure to fire Rovers ahead early in the second half this afternoon, before a hat trick from Luke Williams condemned Gary Bowyer's side to a 3-1 defeat.

Kaz will still be missed for his burst of speed and we have nobody at the moment to make up for this until King returns. Olsson 2 has pace but nothing else. Injuries have really been a pain this season.

although ckr has his plus points, he also tends to be very wasteful, too many times he would be just outside the box and too eager to shoot at goal at all costs, the keeper straightaway reads his intent and have sufficient time to react, so hardly scores from there, like ruben he sometimes suffer from tunnel vision and dont see the wide player or a player who would free, ready to pass a dangerous ball behind the defence, giving him or rhodes a better shot at goal.
rovers attacking players should aim to increase their ball retenion, hold on to the ball long enough so players can run beyond the ball and create more options, pass it around, dont need to show the other team that you are getting desperate, and have run out of ideas, trying to hit the strikers not caring about making sure it reaches them in a way that they can do something with it, otherwise they end up playing the chasing game just to gain the ball back.
