Olsson facing month on the sidelines
6:55pm Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
MARTIN Olsson looks set to be out of action for at least a month after suffering a freak training ground injury on Friday.
Rovers' Swedish international missed this afternoon's draw at home to Leeds after taking a ball to the eye yesterday, with Appleton revealing he could be facing a month on the sidelines.
Colin Kazim-Richards will have a scan on Monday after limping out of this afternoon's clash with an ankle injury, with Dickson Etuhu and Lee Williamson already ruled out for the next month at least.
Rovers struggled to create too much this afternoon as they remain seven points adrift of the Championship top six.
Manager Michael Appleton, said: "I thought it was a good game to watch and a good game to be involved in, even though the scoreline didn't suggest that.
"It was two teams going toe to toe and hammer and tongs against each other and there were chances for both sides.
"It was a game both teams wanted to win but ultimately both had to settle for a draw.
"I thought we were good in possession at times and looked a threat. I thought we looked much sharper than we did in midweek."

A lot of work needed on the field and Murphy needs to be retired from duty.. though at the moment it seems even with a squad our size we struggle when a few players are out. which begs the question, what are players like Nunes doing if we aren't willing to play them??

1) Kean kicking was ver poor, but was steady
2) defence again solid apart from the lad from city, who has a disappointing game
3) murphy, enough said
4) kaz ineffective as a wide man , better linking up with rhoads
5) DJ, didn't know he was playing, very poor in possession
6) Rhoads, not one of his better games
All in all good point!

Today was the kind of day where we needed a little bit of talent off the bench but since we shipped out Rochina, Formica & Vucevic our options seem limited.

Give Rhodes a break , let Leon and Gomes start the game. Kazim and Rhodes can later join if needed, so they will be fit for FA CUP.

The real test of Michael Appleton is not whether Rovers get into the play offs but if he can build up a half decent midfield for next season. Another interesting test is if he can get Bentley back to anything like his previous form. Bentley is something of a degenerate wastrel. A weak vessel into which has been placed more talent than he can cope with. This is a classic test for a manager. Bentley is a player of Appleton's choosing, if the manager can get him to realise his talent instead of wasting it then Appleton really will have achieved something. This will be worth watching.

We have tried all season to play with players who are not up to the job.
Our problem is central midfield.
We need strong youngish determined midfield marvels...!!
Unfortunately these particular type of player are harder to find and lure to BRFC. People have more chances of finding gold on the streets of Blackburn.....!!!!
All season, we have had to make do with players who are simply not up to it..!
Murphy is past it and too old.
Lowe is simply not good enough but tries hard and for me is only a squad member. To be fair to the lad he has fitted into the team and doing a job.
Pederson is too old and past it.
Dunn is unlikely to play again and if were lucky we may get 5 mins.
Not sure if the others cando a job as yet unproven...!!
Williamson, out for 6 weeks thats his season over..!!
Etuhu, finsihed for season..!
so many more players out and injuries likely to mount as its a tough league the championship...!
We need to attract more players on short term loans and BRFC must pay high wages to get the ones we really need.
Thank God, we have currently have Venkys who will hopefully pay the wages required..!
I doubt if any other owner would have continued investing and paying like Venkys are doing.
Hopefully, MA sees this and finds the players we need.....!!! too take us up.
finally.......
Hopefully we can go up...!!!
but that will mean BRFC will have to spend 50 million at least just to have a chance of staying up
Arte et labore.

Realistically, with the dross we have on 2 year and longer contracts it may take 3 years to assemble a promotion team, if Appleton is capable of doing it.
He has never demonstrated that he can do this, so it will be interested to see if he can rise to the occasion. Let us hope so or it will be a long time, if ever, before we see the top teams at Ewood again.

Appleton said that the Leeds game "was a good game to watch". How come a few on here said that it was dire ?
Were there two games v Leeds going on ?

Would rather have beaten Hull and Leeds than a quarter final or a semi at t Wembley .
By the way does anyone know the whereabouts of Singh ? is he still with Rovers ?
Apparently Singh and Hendry were seen together at a game at Fleetwood recently , anyone know what they are actually supposed to be doing to be getting paid there big fat wages for nowadays ? .
