FULL-TIME: Brighton 1, Burnley 0
6:04pm Saturday 23rd February 2013 in Football
BURNLEY suffered their third defeat in five games, after David Lopez's first-half goal was enough to win the game for Brighton.
The Clarets had two headers cleared off the line before the break, while Charlie Austin went close with second half headers – both from half-time substitute Danny Ings' right wing deliveries.
But Brighton had the edge in this battle of two play-off hopefuls and could have scored more.
Brighton struck in the 20th minute, after the Clarets failed to deal with Wayne Bridge's left wing cross that was flicked on and Lopez was unmarked to side-foot across Lee Grant.
It proved decisive, but Brighton were unlucky not to capitalise on further left-wing raids.
Equally, Clarets captain Jason Shackell was unfortunate not to score from a couple of first half corners – the first was cleared off the line, the second superbly saved by Tomasz Kuszczak.
Ings replaced Junior Stanislas at the start of the second half and looked to have an instant impact, picking out Austin in the box with a cross from the right, but his header was held by the keeper.
Brighton brought on the fresh legs of Craig Mackail-Smith and Ashley Barnes to try to increase their advantage, but the impressive Kevin Long was more than a match for them in only his third start.
But Burnley could not come up with the goal they needed to rescue a point.

LOL we are on a poor run, 3 defeats in five games, yet Rovers are still only one point ahead and think they might get in the play offs. Their arrogance knows no bounds and they still haven't realised what and where they are!

Given Burnley's disastrous run of late its hard to believe that the Rovers are one point better off after all the excitement a couple of poor wins has invoked amongst the spineless degenerates. That famous communal hard-on returned in anger for a short spell and along with it the deluded superiority complex. It's time to realise what you are. Stop kidding yourselves.

Now that the goals have dried up, shoddy defensive play is becoming the norm and with a trip to Leicester up next its looking decidedly grim for the Rovers. However the comments from several of these dribbling morons are understandable in most cases. It must be pretty miserable to follow a club of that 'size' only to see it systematically a*se raped by Indians to become the laughing stock of English football. Shame on all of you for standing by and allowing this to happen to Jack Walkers memory. He deserved better.
You are a disgrace to football, each and every one of you. Shameless, moronic, degenerate Rovers filth.
