FULL TIME: Hull City 2 Blackburn Rovers 0
10:31pm Tuesday 19th February 2013 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers' Championship play-off hopes suffered a big blow after losing 2-0 to high-flyers Hull City tonight.
Second half goals from Egyptian duo Gedo and Ahmed Elmohamady were enough to down a disappointing Rovers and leave them seven points from the top six.
Goalkeeper Jake Kean prevented the damage from being any worse as Steve Bruce's Tigers dominated proceedings for the majority.
To make matters worse midfielder Lee Williamson was stretchered off the field after suffering what looked like a knee injury, with fears he could be facing a spell on the sidelines.
Hull's victory ends Rovers' six-match unbeaten streak and was also the first time a side had scored against them from open play in more than nine hours of football.
Rovers will bid to bounce back in a home clash against Leeds United on Saturday, in a match they know they will need to win to breathe new life into their play-off push.

let's get a bit of perspective on the (forthcoming) doom-mongers. no sensible rovers fan (french rover excepted - as his pauillac addled brain allows a little lenience) thought that the progress under 'appy meant we could right off the last two years...........chri
st, we got done by a team well in front of us in the current pecking order.
be honest - - even with appleton we all know that a strong finish to the season and missing out on promotion is the best possible option, who wants to see a derby/sheff utd etc premiership performance in the prem next season.......i know i will be unpopular in my assessment - but who gives a monkey's chuff about getting stuffed next season in the premiership?....whic
h we would!
let's have a real go next season with appleton and his own team --- he is trying his darnest with one hand tied behind his back.....if it means we lose a few players, then so be it. i would much prefer to give it a real go next season.......you never know - tonight's result may be a blessing in disguise.
for me - a successful season this season is quite simple - kean gone! a brilliant season would be some of the other clowns also gone.....but i will settle for a successful season.

But from what I have seen and heard over the last few games we are badly missing some creativity, I fear the decision to let Rochina go will turn out to be a big mistake.

Jake Kean & Grant Hanley & Jordan Rhodes - you were the only players to put a shift in tonight .. great saves & tackles again & good effort...
Orr & Dann - you were very very poor .. Hull are a quick passing side (Quinn was v impressive) but we need you to step up or leave our club ..
Preferably the latter ...
Murphy - where was your energy & running tonight (i think you left it at Craven Cottage) .. You need to be setting the example as senior pro .. Fewer interviews & more fitness work please ..
Rekik - You are v v poor .. Keep playing like that and you will go the way of Sebastian Pelzer / Bruno Ribero / Shabani Nonda / etc
Rhodes - Hard working & led the line well ...We still need to work out how to get the best out of your talent (not constant long balls to his head - Danny)
Williamson - anonymous tonight. I fear this may be the last time we see you in the first team after your injury son ....
DJ Campbell - The Hull fans got under your skin & you looked abject tonight .. You need to be doing better to earn that extra £9k a week ("call it lunch money")
.. Get your head up / start chasing the ball down / running into channels / etc
Kazim - You know it was a cheap yellow card to give away .. Still one of our most talented players but you need to be on the pitch ...
Summary - we were well beaten by a quick passing side who can finish & work hard for each other .. but they have no star names !!!!
We need more effort & commitment on Saturday Appy !!!

Listened to Kevin Gallagher last night he said the only positive thing to come out of the match was how on earth Rhodes had scored 20 this season with no service what so ever from the rest of the players. He also said the back 4 were all over the place with Hull leading them a merry dance and as for Murphy - terrible (why the hell we play this chump I will never know) He said nothing positive for him on this performance it was dire!!!!!
Yes against the teams that matter in this league if we are to get promoted we have to perform on the field instead of mouthing it off in the newspaper. Sorry Appleton you got it totally wrong last night.

A semi final place is still possible though and staying in the champs above middle table will be some achievement considering the utter shambles BRFC have been put in by venkys.Next season would be more realistic for promotion.

Appleton has set the team out pretty much the same way every time - defend well and hit them on the counter-attack. Unfortunately, it didn't work last night but it wasn't due to individual errors, it was down to Hull having a better game plan than us. They bombarded us for the whole of the second half and the boys did well to only concede two goals - one of which was pretty much unstoppable even if you had Manchester United's defence. It's obvious to everyone, even Appleton after last night's showing, that we can't always sit back and invite the other team into our half and hope to nick a goal on the break. We need to be more aggressive but, unless we're able to bring a few more players in, we just haven't got the quality in midfield to drive forward.
My alternative view to your assessment of the players is as follows:
Kean - outstanding, again.
Orr, Dann, Hanley, Ollson - relatively solid as a unit, always at risk of conceding when put under so much pressure. Obvious signs of fatigue as they were the busiest players at the Emirate's on Saturday.
Williamson - tried to create chances but, too often, found himself crowded out.
Lowe - ran around a lot, made a few important blocks in defence but isn't an attacking threat.
Murphy - seemed happy to let Lowe do all the legwork, anonymous for large parts of the game.
Rekik - first game, didn't set the game alight but did show some promise despite being played out of position.
Kazim-Richards - drifted in and out of the game, created few chances, showed his petulant side, again, when booked.
Rhodes - didn't see much of the ball, again.
Campbell - looked to be trying too hard thus ignoring the easy option, squandered an easy chance. Very Rochina-esque.
Bentley - not match fit yet, final ball and dead ball didn't threaten.
At the end of the day we lost, away, to a very good Hull team who are fighting for an automatic promotion place. We can't win them all.
