Exeter see kit plea thrown out

ACCRINGTON Stanley travel to an Exeter City side who are exploring all options in a bid to cure their poor home form.

The Grecians have won just once in their last eight games at St James’ Park in comparison to a club record 10 wins away from home.

And Paul Tisdale’s men were hoping to change their fortune by taking on Stanley in their change strip of light blue.

The away kit has proved to be something of a lucky charm for Exeter who have not been beaten away from home since November.

But the Football League have denied permission for it to be used saying it was against league regulations.

That means they will be in a familiar red and white strip against Stanley, who ironically were given permission to wear their new third kit at home to AFC Wimbledon last month only for the game to be called off due to the weather.

Meanwhile, Exeter boss Tisdale is refusing to take Stanley’s visit lightly despite Leam Richardson’s men having won just once in their last 15 games.

Tisdale said: “I just hope we play our best because I know Accrington have got something about them should we give them a chance. We have seen Accrington play a couple of times and been quite impressed with them.

“They have got a young manager who knows how he wants to play and they haven’t found the results, but we quite liked the way we have seen them play.

“This season we have found out that league position and results don’t always stack up.”

Tisdale added that Accrington may come to St James’ Park and look to defend, putting the emphasis on the home side to open up the play.

“When teams are intent on defending and they pass the initiative over to the home side, we have found already this season that is not easy,” he said.
