Blackburn Rovers star Rhodes in seventh heaven

JORDAN Rhodes was in seventh heaven on Saturday after claiming a priceless winner to make him just the fourth player ever to score in seven consecutive league games for Blackburn Rovers.
The Rovers striker was adamant the second half winner against Ipswich was his, despite some crediting it as a Stephen Henderson own goal, as Michael Appleton’s men moved to within just four points of the play-offs.
Replays were inconclusive but, with no dubious goals panel for the Championship and Rovers ready to award him the strike, Rhodes can now set his sights on a record breaking eight on the bounce at Brighton tomorrow night.
Rhodes joins Jack Southworth, Eddie Quigley and Ted Harper in scoring in seven straight games and the 23-year-old, who broke his nose earlier in the game, admits it is a huge honour.
Meanwhile Rovers boss Michael Appleton is hopeful of adding another loan signing in time for the trip to Brighton, with David Bentley understood to be on his wanted list.
Match-winner Rhodes said: “It is a real honour. I was looking at the paper on Friday and I didn’t really know what the record was for the club, to be considered with the names of some strikers at the club, there have been many great ones, is a real honour.
“I feel very privileged to be mentioned amongst them but it doesn’t matter who scored the goals it was about the three points.
“I will try and not let it change my mentality. I will keep on as normal. It will be nice to look on when I am retired though.
“It is my goal. I know you will say that is the way strikers are but, it was. Aaron Cresswell made a good clearance off the line and I didn’t know much about it but I knew I made good contact and I have diverted the ball in the direction it was coming from.
“I made good contact and didn’t see much of it from then because it went through a body or two and maybe took a touch off the keeper but I definitely made good contact and it is mine.
“It would be nice to beat the record but at Brighton it doesn’t matter who scores the goals. What matters is picking up the three points if we can get them.”
Of his nose injury, which was picked up after an accidental first half clash, Rhodes added: “The nose is sore.
“If you had asked me after a 1-0 defeat, I would have said it was agony but after a 1-0 win and you have got the winner it feels a lot, lot better.”
Rhodes has now scored three goals in the last two games to help Rovers climb up to eighth, and he insists it is all about results at this stage of the season.
He said: “It might not be pretty at times but it is a matter of grinding out results. Earlier in the season we might have played better than that but lost by two or three. It is important we stuck in and got the win.
“The majority of the games at Huddersfield last season we didn’t play as free flowing as we could have done. You see the games coming up and they are thick and fast. You are not going to be able to play your best football but you have to grind out the results.
“We will just do the best we can and come May 4 we will see where we are.”

If we were to get Bentley then don't hope for the lad who left us for Spurs all those years ago. I do hope that he is successful with us but sInce his fall from grace his form has sufferred. I hope that the familiar surroundings of Ewood Park will push him into getting to or even close to his form on his last spell. I think he can make the difference for us, just depends which Bentley decides to play.

a) gave the ball away
b) over committed on a challenge - only to completely miss and allow them to attack
c) did an awful pass which was intercepted
d) didn't mark the player stood 2 metres away from him
e) wandered to the wings to stand and watch, leaving Lowe to mark two players in the centre
f) Having a go at various Rovers players, when he himself was at fault
Murphy had an awful game as usual, he looks back far too often. Granted some of the time its because our forward players aren't open or making space. Pedersen and Lowe in the centre would be a much better pairing.
An for those of you having a do at Pedersen, he's a LW'er playing RW. Name one player this season whose done a better job on the RW than Pedersen?
