Rovers face fight to secure Albion winger
8:06am Thursday 7th February 2013 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
BLACKBURN Rovers face a battle to land the loan signing of Jerome Thomas with West Brom yet to decide whether their winger is now available.
Thomas believed he had joined Rovers last Thursday on transfer deadline day, after putting pen to paper on a deal in the region of £600,000, but the move had to be put on hold after paperwork issues.
Rovers boss Michael Appleton spoke of his desire to bring Thomas in on loan instead when the window reopens tomorrow – before making the move permanent in the summer – but it is understoof the Baggies are yet to give the green light.
With Peter Odemwingie out of favour at the Hawthorns after his attempts to force a move fell through, and the Midlands outfit unsuccessful in their bid to sign Junior Hoilett, Thomas could still feature in Steve Clarke’s plans.
Rovers are likely to hold talks with West Brom in the next 24 hours to discuss their chances of reviving the deal, but sources close to Albion have told the Lancashire Telegraph Thomas could now stay at the Hawthorns.
Any u-turn on Thomas would be a blow to Appleton, who would swiftly shift his attentions elsewhere in his bid to add competition to Rovers’ wide positions.
With Josh King ruled out for up to two months with a hamstring injury, Rovers have no recognised right winger on their books, although Colin Kazim-Richards could be switched there.
Rovers remain hopeful of completing the loan signing of QPR striker DJ Campbell tomorrow and he could go straight into the squad for Saturday’s visit of his former side Ipswich.
Loan players can only be signed for a maximum of 93 days meaning, if Campbell signs today, he would have to return to Loftus Road for a short period before rejoining Rovers again to be eligible for any play-off campaign.
Appleton is also bidding to add a centre back to his ranks with free agent Lee Williamson also still expected to sign.
Meanwhile summer signing Edinho is set to join Indian League club Shillong Lajong on loan until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old Brazilian striker arrived from Portuguese club SC Olhanense in the summer but, after just one first team start, will be the latest to join recent departees.
Portuguese midfield Diogo Rosado completed a loan switch to Benfica last week, while compatriot Paulo Jorge will join Bulgarian club Beroe Stara Zagora on loan until the summer.
Striker Dimitri Petratos and defender Faizul Fayuti are currently on an ‘attachment’ at Blackburn Rovers as part of a link up between Kelantan FA in Malaysia and the club.
Links lining Rovers up with a £500,000 move for Petratos are understood to be well wide of the mark, with both expected to return to Kelantan next month.

It looks like Appleton has really got stuck in and started to sort the wheat from the chaff and is pushing the squad in the direction which he wants. He is clearly working his socks off.
It is a great pity that he has not had the professional support he would have anticipated from above and I hope that Venkys have the guts to make it clear that there is no place for amateurism going forward.
We have seen a different attitude from the players and the fans and it is shameful that senior administrators have let the Club down.
I hope that there is pressure on them from above to get their act together.
Is Eckersley playing?

A few weeks ago I commented on this forum that I had written to Venky's in India, to our Global Advisor Shebby Singh and also to our Operations Director Paul Agnew - and I hadn't received a response from any of them.
1952 Rover queried this and claimed that he had recently declined a meeting with Shebby and said that he'd even been offered an alternative date to meet him.
I therefore asked 1952 Rover for Shebby's new email address.
I'm still waiting.
With regard to Appleton I believe that he has been a breath of fresh air for Blackburn Rovers.
In such a short space of time he has assessed the squad and taken action to get rid of the deadwood. The likes of Robinson, Givet, Goodwillie and Dunn will no doubt follow soon.
In addition he has appointed a Fitness Coach and Head of Recruitment - both positions were urgently needed.
However, so far his efforts to strengthen / rebalance the squad have failed.
Whether this is down to poor administration at the club, the financial demands of player's agents, Venkys being too slow to authorise the deals or even Shebby's revenge I don't know.
Based on his actions so far, I believe we have appointed a good manager.
The club must now back him in the transfer / loan market or risk losing him like Blackpool did.

Never mind West Brom/QPR, we'll take these players on loan for 3 months and see whether it gets us into the play offs. If it does, we'll extend the loan and make a decision once we know where we'll be playing next season!!
.
Sign Williamson on a short term deal as well and all three represent a brilliant bit of business, strengthening the squad without committing too much money on long term deals...
.
(others would no doubt say that its Venkeys being tight again, but that depends on your viewpoint)

It looks to me as if Rovers have played a very shrewd game with the Campbell and Thomas deals. By securing the clubs and players in talks for most of deadline day, they prevented deals going through elsewhere for these players and then...whoops...the deals didnt go through! . DJ Campbell would be a good signing as it would encourage Rhodes to play even better than he already is. I think Appleton maybe thinking that there could be a move for Rhodes from a premier league club at the end of the season. Signing Campbell would put added pressure on Kazim Richards too as I believe he can do more. And we also have Bst gunning to go again so maybe Kazim Richards is being thought of for right midfield as he has played there in Turkey.
But I do hope we get Jermain Thomas n too as he looked a good player against us over the last two seasons. I think he will shine in the championship.
Just a decent centre back, right back a and a playmaking centre midfielder now to sign and things will be looking even brighter.

After all the money they have pumped into BRFC to be treated with such contempt is disgraceful. You should be ashamed. Why do you think she wouldn't sanction those two deadline day signings? What you really should worry about is how much longer your owners will take the abuse being levelled at them, as once they pull the plug and refuse to keep you afloat you'll drop faster than Mrs D's drawers when Shebby comes to visit.

Venky's authorised both signings. the fact that they didn't materialise is the fault of either agents or incompetent office staff. Mrs Desai was apparently unhappy that Rochina had been loaned out before Campbell or Thomas were signed. Hardly the actions of a vindictive matriarch.
If you're intent on having a bit of banter, or trying to be funny, try using 'material' with some substance. By the way, good job faking Austin's injury to put off any potential suitors...

I am in total control, you are all my **** - I will do whatever I want. Your puny protests and your wearing of the traditional Blackburn Ugly Masks will not stop me from acheiving my goal.
How much bitter angry jealousy must be pent up inside you knowing if you lose this weekend and we again win, you'll be watching us skipping past you with a game in hand..?
Never mind dingle, you'll always have bragging rights of holding us to a draw and being above us for a short period in your otherwise uneventful history..
