CENTURION Jordan Rhodes insists Blackburn Rovers have to keep their focus after his double boosted hopes of a late play-off challenge.

The Rovers striker scored a goal in each half to secure a 2-0 home win over struggling Bristol City and insisted afterwards their promotion dreams were now “doable”.

It was announced at Ewood on Saturday that Rhodes’ two goals had taken him to 100 career league goals but the 22-year-old insisted the statisticians were wrong and that he had already reached his milestone.

The record books do agree that Rhodes has now scored in Rovers’ last six league games as he took his tally to 19 in all competitions for the club, leaving Michael Appleton’s men just seven points shy of the play-offs.

Rhodes, said: “I don’t know the stats but I got 100 league goals two or three games ago. I’m happy but everyone is two or three games out.

“I got my 100 a couple of games ago and celebrated internally. If you look through the records and add them up its now 102.

“I am happy. I aimed to get the 100 league goals by the age of 22 and I turn 23 next week.

“The play-offs are very much doable but at the same time it is important we keep our feet on the ground and stay level headed and take one game at a time.

“We have had a few games this season when our minds seemed elsewhere and you can count on two hands the games where we were in front and let teams come back into it in the last five or ten minutes, letting teams equalise or score a winner.

“We have to concentrate on the task in d and that is now next week and Ipswich where it is important to get a win. They beat Middlesbrough 4-0 today so they are a tough team.”

Rhodes received most of the plaudits on Saturday but the 22-year-old was quick to divert the praise away from himself.

He said: “It wasn’t a matter of who got the goals today, it wasn’t a matter of being pretty. It was just about getting the result.

“I’m on a good run, but at the same time it’s not a matter of who gets the goals just a case of getting them and securing a win.

“We need exactly the same mentality got into next weeks game with Ipswich.

“Sometimes you go into games and the ball falls for you and some times you do exactly the same and it doesn’t happen.

“Sometimes you make those runs to the near post and the ball goes to the back. It is just that little bit of luck. The ball just managed to find me a couple of times today.”

Meanwhile, former Portsmouth midfielder Lee Williamson is set to join Rovers this week. He is currently a free agent.

And DJ Campbell and Jerome Thomas should complete their loan moves to Ewood Park on Friday.
