BLACKBURN Rovers Action Group (BRAG) have called for their fellow supporters to “Back the Badge” in an attempt to show what the Ewood Park matchday experience can be like.
The group, who were behind the early protests against former boss Steve Kean and owners Venky’s, are launching a campaign aimed at packing Ewood for the visit of Ipswich on February 9.
BRAG were criticised by large sections of supporters when they threatened to step up their campaign against owners Venky’s if the appointment of manager Michael Appleton went through.
Now, they believe an act of unity will show owners Venky’s that their running of the club over the past two years is the reason for dwindling home attendances.
A Group statement said: “We call on all supporters’ groups and individuals to put your weight behind the “Back the Badge Campaign”.
“The last two years have brought about much disharmony both around the club and within the stands. All supporters matter and every opinion is an important ingredient to why we love our club.
“Many reasons have been given as to why supporters have chosen to stay away, however the only way to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the primary reason is the way the club has been dismantled under Venky’s ownership is to unite together for this one match and pack Ewood Park out with home supporters.
“We ask all supporters not to do this for Venky’s or any supporter group but to do it for yourselves and the famous badge which unites us all.”

what a really strange move by BRAG??? one thing that would really help the team and it's future fortunes, is for a full house of of rovers fans who on a match day were prepared to look past the nonsense and support the side put out on the pitch. venky's are poor and some of the behaviour of many at the club has been poor, but if we can get lots of fans out for one week, why not more? that would be in the interests of the long term future of rovers.

I can be a cynical old bugger sometimes but I always trust my instincts, and my instincts are telling me this is just a ploy to get BRAG back in the limelight again.
If BRAG were considering any genuine change of heart they would have issued a proclamation, sorry, Group Statement, condemning the vile and totally unacceptable abuse hurled at Venky's when they came to Ewood a couple of weeks ago.

I am surprised that BRAG actually think they can make a difference and that they have any serious credibility with the fans now. The gates are going to increase anyway if we carry on improving - so they cannot take any credit for that.
BRAG was a sound idea originally and helped organise some isolated fan groups when we needed that most. But then BRSIT was established and showed the way forward for supporters organisations who want to achieve something concrete for the future of the club.
When Kean left then maybe BRAG should have either merged in with BRSIT or just morphed into a more 'normal' supporters group - and not an 'action' group. Its always good to have organised groups of fans but they have to have a purpose and I think most people believe that BRAG have served their purpose now.

What a joke these people are, they say one thing one minute and another the next. The fans will not go flocking back because of what they say. They lost any influence they had ages ago. The fans will go back when they see their Club is being run properly and the team starts to get some results. Michael Appleton seems to be putting a few building blocks in place that may see a few more coming back over the next few weeks. The activity in this transfer window will have a say in it too.

Too little too late from people who, in my opinion, are as responsible as Venkys for the divisions amongst fans and the perpetuation of the poor atmosphere at Ewood.
They would have us be ashamed of attending matches whilst they cosy up to Club officials in a process of self-aggrandisement.
Those very, very few who are staying away from Ewood on a matter of principle are capable of thinking for themselves and don't need these rabble-rousers to tell them what to do.
Do the Club and the fans a favour BRAG - stop stirring and disband. Your attempts to carve out a piece of Rovers for yourselves have failed. Live with it.

What is the point of BRAG, they are a group of no hopers trying to make themselves important and now their mate Shebby has disappeared they seem to be running out of ideas and are just trying to get themselves back in the limelight. I listen to them speaking to each other when they are in the pub and they talk utter rubbish and they really do think that they are something special, in reality they have been the major problem with the rift between fans and have contributed massively to the problems at ewood.

Well, why issue this stupid press release - this rabble are as culpable as the clowns that run our club - they are like the Judean Popular Front in the Life of Brian. With self-spokesman Dastardly Mullan and Mutley Fish they contribute to the joke that has become our club.
The single-most effective bit of anti-venkys action that got national recognition and is remembered nationally was the chicken on the pitch for the wigan game. simple but effective - the rest has been an exercise in naval gazing and self-congratulation.
What disappoints me about this rag tag and bobtail group is their holier than thou attitude. THE EXPLOSIVE DOCUMENT which was going to blow the myth of Venky's and club ownership apart and the refusal by these nutters to reveal to concerned fellow rovers supporters the incendiary contents of aforementioned 400 page document.
Equally disappointing has been that they were taken in by the Shere Khan from the Jungle book with his snake-oil salesman nonsense and that they were unable to see that he just told them what they wanted to hear. Well, Dastardly & Mutley - shebby has taken you for fools.
personally, i can't stand the venky's and believe they are ruining our club - unlike others i do not believe that maybe, just maybe, they may be learning from their previous mistakes - but BRAG, if anything, has imho exacerbated the problem rather than alleviated it.
finally, i was disgusted by mullan's inference that our new manager was a client of a certain emirates stadium announcer - thereby uneccessarily setting the hares racing once again.

I really do not get either the point BRAG are trying to make here our the timing, no one is happy with the last two years under the venkys and big mistakes have been made. But in recent weeks under GB and now MA there has been an uplift in atmosphere ( Apart from the charlton game again the timing on that from the venkys was way off). We seem to be turning a bit of a corner the players are showing a bit of heart and the fans are singing again, and the manager seems to be talking some sense. ( Time will tell but so far its better that it was). So why do this now, if you want to make a point come when all hope of the play offs are gone, the last thing we need is venkys out chants ringing round ewood at this point in the season.
The other thing is lets say 18,000 turn up, then what all thats proven is 4000 people dont like the venkys enough to not go.
Just not seeing the point of this would rather see everyone just let the on the field stuff start to dictate how things are down at ewood, a bit of success and a positive atmosphere and some will come back, not all we have to accept some supporters will never return under the venkys but with a town population of 100,000 a crowd of 25,000 ( which was a peak by the way more typical seasonal averages were between 21,000 and 23,000) is a massive ask. Also with a club like ours with gate reciepts no more than 12 % of the income vavailable in the premiership is it a priority.
I have being supporting the badge my way through all of this and I think the majority of fans have just had enough of the politics and just want to watch football.

No-one in their right minds would claim that so far the Venkys era has been an easy time for the club and its supporters. However, in MA we finally have a manager who talks sense and is getting the best out of the team. What we now need to see is Venkys support him in his plans, allow him to pick the teams he wants and play the tactics he wants. A little support in the transfer kitty wouldn't go amiss either. BRAG are right in that we need to back the badge but in truth the badge wasn't deserted, it was Venkys, Kean and the hangers on who were there to line their pockets at the clubs expense. We have seen the shoots of recovery on and off the park and I am the most optimistic I have been for a long time. BRAG now need to fade into the background, not disappear totally incase it all comes off the rails again, but their role is latent. My only concern is that Singh is still at the club and I do not see a role for him. He cannot be allowed to interfere in team selection or tactics and I would think £400k a year salary would be better invested in the playing staff. The best thing that we can do to support the team and MA is to get to Ewood and.support the revival.

I have "backed the badge" for over 50 years and continue as a season ticket holder to support the team regardless of the owners regime. Neither I or thousands of committed supporters need some self-appointed and divisive individuals to tell us what to do. Whether supporters still attend or don't is for them to decide, rather than a BRAG to instruct what to do. Only an upturn in results (which I am hopeful of) will motivate the absent to return. Hopefully BRAG will realise from these posts they are not relevant.
On the subject of badges, is it too much to ask the Lancashire Telegraph to use a photo of our manager in kit with a Rovers badge, rather than a WBA one!!

Rather patronising to be told by an action group to support our club. Why now? Why didn't they say that all along? Why Ipswich and not the next game? Does anybody actually listen to BRAG now? Original idea was genuine but when Mullen had the opportunity to make it clear what was going on and what the real issues were in media interviews he failed in my view. Missed the cutting edge and sounded like a moaning fan.

I supported rovers in the second/third division loved it win or lose but its brag that keeping me away sick of the clowns protests. Brag are ducking and diving, but you were all singing their praises a few months ago and would of been lost without them to push for answers to vital questions.
They got the closest to the real worst owners in the club's history.
I understand if people don't trust them, but to hold them responsible for Rover's image is disgraceful and serves the Venks very well.
Stop jumping the gun and hating something you think you don't need anymore or you will get the tag fickle and it will be deserved.

dont get me wrong....i was one of those who stood outside the training ground in the rain, i was one of those who stood outside ewood in the freezing cold and on the whole supported the protests.....and i would do it again because if life at ewood went on as usual with great attendances and great vocal support then the chicken farmers back in India wouldn't have a clue how us fans felt....they would just sit back and cash in....Oh and intothevalley, thats what you SHOULD do when you buy a football club and tell the fans you intend to invest.....the only thing is those muppets could have prevented us from going down with the investment at the right time, listening to the fans and leaving all the back room staff in place....so dont start singing the Venkys praises to me....because mate, it just wont was.....Venkys out Then, Venkys out Now and Venkys out for good....

Ignore the clowns from Burnley guys, not worth the effort.
It isn't up to BRAG to decide who goes to Ewood it's up to individual fans.
More importantly its up to our owners to put right everything they have destroyed over the last two years or so.
Perhaps that's beginning, Appleton appears to be putting a management team together, something no previous manager under Venky's has been allowed to do.
Thats a start, but we need more, but now we need a run of results to build on the last couple of games.
If that happens the confidence of the team and fans will improve and I am fairly sure some fans, not all, will find their way back where they belong.
Like the majority I am distrustful of Venky's but I am also optimistic that something has changed for the better behind the scenes.
One can only hope.

BRAG are an irrelevance these days. Kean is gone, the Venkys pay them no attention and Shebby, their only link into the club, appears to have disappeared from the scene. As others have said, this press release is just an attempt to raise their own profile. Blackburn fans certainly don't need BRAG telling them what to do!

1) Fans who have vowed never to go back under venkys rule.
2) Fans who really only came to watch premier league football, i know a few Livepool and Spurs fans who live up here that used to go just to watch premier league football, but were not really Blackburn supporters.
3) Fans who chose not to renew as a protest and have adjusted there saturday afternoons to other things and just dont want to take the leap back in yet, because they do other things now.
4) Fans who just could not face the atmosphere last season and are waiting to see if the atmosphere improves.
The ratios on why people stay away are always going to be disputed depending on your agenda. Venkys will tell you its because we are not in the premier league and BRAG are telling us it is because everyone hates the venkys
Because i think the reasons why people do not come down are more complex than some would have us believe, getting the crowds back up is not going to be fixed in one swift action, its going to take time, results and the recreation of a good saturday afternoon atmosphere people can enjoy is what we need.
I never gave my season ticket up, it makes me no more a fan than others who did not, and also makes me no less a fan than those who protested, we all made choices that we felt were right.
There are some on here that say they will never forgive the venkys and they seem to have been consumed by taking any action regardless of its consequence as they see their removal as the only solution. I for one do not want to cut my nose of despite my face , give me the choice of playing in the championship under the venkys or playing in League 2 owned by BRIST then i would go for the Venkys , does that make me a glory hunter maybe but thats how i feel.
So i will be down on saturday and every other home game , keeping the faith and hoping inspite of all the other things the boys can pull it out of the bag.

Idiots near me who were thrilled when Bolton went one because they thought kean would be sacked, I've witnessed two incidents of fans fighting in the Blackburn end over kean. Neither are over 30 and don't remember life before the premier league and yet they believed they were better supporters. My friend has been going to home games for over 60 years and for the first time didn't renew his ticket at summer, not until kean left. Tells you how bad it was and yet in your analysis he would be a plastic supporter!! I'd love to see you make that accusation to him know person and to me. How old are you? 4) Fans who just could not face the atmosphere last season and are waiting to see if the atmosphere improves.
The ratios on why people stay away are always going to be disputed depending on your agenda. Venkys will tell you its because we are not in the premier league and BRAG are telling us it is because everyone hates the venkys
Because i think the reasons why people do not come down are more complex than some would have us believe, getting the crowds back up is not going to be fixed in one swift action, its going to take time, results and the recreation of a good saturday afternoon atmosphere people can enjoy is what we need.
I never gave my season ticket up, it makes me no more a fan than others who did not, and also makes me no less a fan than those who protested, we all made choices that we felt were right.

I for one do not want to cut my nose of despite my face , give me the choice of playing in the championship under the venkys or playing in League 2 owned by BRIST then i would go for the Venkys , does that make me a glory hunter maybe but thats how i feel.

No-one in their right minds would claim that so far the Venkys era has been an easy time for the club and its supporters. However, in MA we finally have a manager who talks sense and is getting the best out of the team. What we now need to see is Venkys support him in his plans, allow him to pick the teams he wants and play the tactics he wants. A little support in the transfer kitty wouldn't go amiss either. BRAG are right in that we need to back the badge but in truth the badge wasn't deserted, it was Venkys, Kean and the hangers on who were there to line their pockets at the clubs expense. We have seen the shoots of recovery on and off the park and I am the most optimistic I have been for a long time. BRAG now need to fade into the background, not disappear totally incase it all comes off the rails again, but their role is latent. My only concern is that Singh is still at the club and I do not see a role for him. He cannot be allowed to interfere in team selection or tactics and I would think £400k a year salary would be better invested in the playing staff. The best thing that we can do to support the team and MA is to get to Ewood and.support the revival.

I am on nothing gleechy, I have never, ever sung their praises in fact I was roundly criticised for standing up against their bully boy tactics.
BRAG will never speak for me, ever.
I for one wanted to know where the club was going, and Brag opened dialogue with them which I thought was a good thing.
Since that has happened Brag has gone quiet, rumours that Shabby has them in his pocket are rife and they've probably shot themselves in the foot.
But they served a purpose at one point.
There is still a dark cloud of secrecy over Ewood and it isn't Brag that caused it.

Is there really 1/2/3/4/5…/10k+ Rovers numpties that need to be granted permission by BRAG to do a Rovers return! Nah, don’t think so.
If the attendance against Ipswich is any higher than our average gate then I’ll be very surprised. My conclusion is…the average Rovers fan will make a decision to return based on a number of Issues…….
The team playing well.
The team winning games.
Investment in the team.
Venkeys showing they’re serious about running the club in the right and proper manor and embracing the fans.
The players showing that they’re playing for the badge.
Better PR …keeping the clowns at bay.
Better atmosphere at the ground.
The opposition.
The cost/time.
The weather.
& now’t on telly;- )

Well BRAG I won't say you speak for me, but I will say that I admire your commitment. I don't see how a supporters group can be criticised for encouraging supporters to attend a game. It is a pity the other groups don't work alongsde them. Are the Rovers Trust or Fans Forum not behind this idea also?
Surely it would send an important message, we the fans are still here we have not abbandoned the club, we still care and we will return if the club is run properly. And before anyone says, yes me and my family do still attend Ewood.

1) Fans who have vowed never to go back under venkys rule.
2) Fans who really only came to watch premier league football, i know a few Livepool and Spurs fans who live up here that used to go just to watch premier league football, but were not really Blackburn supporters.
3) Fans who chose not to renew as a protest and have adjusted there saturday afternoons to other things and just dont want to take the leap back in yet, because they do other things now.
4) Fans who just could not face the atmosphere last season and are waiting to see if the atmosphere improves.
The ratios on why people stay away are always going to be disputed depending on your agenda. Venkys will tell you its because we are not in the premier league and BRAG are telling us it is because everyone hates the venkys
Because i think the reasons why people do not come down are more complex than some would have us believe, getting the crowds back up is not going to be fixed in one swift action, its going to take time, results and the recreation of a good saturday afternoon atmosphere people can enjoy is what we need.
I never gave my season ticket up, it makes me no more a fan than others who did not, and also makes me no less a fan than those who protested, we all made choices that we felt were right.
There are some on here that say they will never forgive the venkys and they seem to have been consumed by taking any action regardless of its consequence as they see their removal as the only solution. I for one do not want to cut my nose of despite my face , give me the choice of playing in the championship under the venkys or playing in League 2 owned by BRIST then i would go for the Venkys , does that make me a glory hunter maybe but thats how i feel.
So i will be down on saturday and every other home game , keeping the faith and hoping inspite of all the other things the boys can pull it out of the bag.

Time to Go BRAG! Nothing but petulant trouble makers. GM and his so called supporters group, are doing nothing but dismember the fan base. If 30 - 40 BRAG members want to try and control the rest of the 15k+ loyal fans, then they're having a laugh. This is anything but a supporters group, when you challenge them with your own thoughts, they don't listen and get quite upset. Sorry BRAG how do you come up with the idea of returning to Ewood for one match proves that the missing fans are against Venkys ??????????
I did not renew my season ticket this year because I am disgusted at what the Chicken Farmers have done to our wonderful club in the last 2 years and I have no wish to support Venkys Blackburn Rovers. The club I supported for 39 years was destroyed when these clueless owners took over.
Nothing as changed this year the club is still a laughing stock and run by buffoons. There as to be serious intention and action that the club is being run properly before i ever consider returning.
Until I am happy that the club is rid of the clueless idiots now incumbant then I will not step foot in Ewood

I go to Rovers to watch football. I didn't care that we couldn't pay the milk bill when I was a lad, I wanted to see my team win. When did everything else start to be more important than on field matters? If the footballs sh1t then I vocally let the team and manager know. I do this until the manager changes it or gets sacked. This tactic always worked until Venkys came along and wouldn't get rid of the sh1te Kean. I am on nothing gleechy, I have never, ever sung their praises in fact I was roundly criticised for standing up against their bully boy tactics.
BRAG will never speak for me, ever.
I for one wanted to know where the club was going, and Brag opened dialogue with them which I thought was a good thing.
Since that has happened Brag has gone quiet, rumours that Shabby has them in his pocket are rife and they've probably shot themselves in the foot.
But they served a purpose at one point.
There is still a dark cloud of secrecy over Ewood and it isn't Brag that caused it.
Nobody can condone a mindless lunatic say such things to you, but in every protest you will get some who go too far.
They are nothing more than opportunists taking advantage of a decaying sequence of events that started from Venkys purchasing the club to relegation from the PL and they were there to capitalise on fan fury and despair to make a name for themselves as would-be saviours.
Few events were less cringe worthy than watching Mullan suck up to Singh whilst plotting Venkys downfall, a fact he recently clearly as much confessed to.
There can only be one saviour of BRAG and that is the production of the much vaunted dossier - which if I remember rightly they threatened to release if certain appointments had been made by Venkys.

The problem lies in the fact they will not commnicate directly with the fans ,below their stataus.

the newly recruited fitness coach has a good reputation; hopefully he can sharpen our lads up a bit. Last week's results proved that lower division teams can get success against quality if they run at them all the time. We need to put far more pressure on the opposition.
Would have liked to see a signing or two this window but now looks unlikely - a striker that can complement rhodes, CD maybe even a quality attacking MF.

What a joke these people are, they say one thing one minute and another the next. The fans will not go flocking back because of what they say. They lost any influence they had ages ago. The fans will go back when they see their Club is being run properly and the team starts to get some results. Michael Appleton seems to be putting a few building blocks in place that may see a few more coming back over the next few weeks. The activity in this transfer window will have a say in it too.

I think Singh appointment was bad.Brfc now must win over fans and Venkys must spend spend to get BRFC back in Premier League.
Both Singh and Hendry should be sacked , i would pick somebody like Alan Shearer Ewood Park legend/hero who can win over fans and Shearer has good communiction skills.Maybe Simon Garner or Chris Sutton to replace Singh if Shearer turns down the job offer.
