Clarets not keen on Wes

BURNLEY have not made an offer for Bournemouth striker Wes Thomas, nor are they likely to.

The Clarets were yesterday reported to have lodged a bid for the Cherries’ wantaway front man, who was left out of their line-up for Tuesday night’s win at Hartlepool.

But there has been no approach to former boss Eddie Howe or the League One club for the 26-year-old.

Manager Sean Dyche indicated before the transfer window opened that he was expecting only to be in the market for loans, if there were any additions at all this month.

The chances of making a permanent signing in the current climate are slim, particularly with a fee involved, and Bournemouth would want in excess of the £200,000 they paid for former Crawley forward Thomas, who has expressed his desire to play at a higher level following his loan spell with Blackpool.

The Clarets board may view the situation differently should wanted man Charlie Austin, a target for Celtic, move on.

As yet, however, there have not been any bids for Austin.

“No, none, “ said Burnley boss Dyche, who is unsure whether he will be able to welcome the striker back from a hamstring injury for this weekend’s game against Birmingham.

“We’ll see how he goes this week. We’ll be working with the injured players to see if they’re fit.”
