Positive atmosphere will only help Rovers
7:46am Thursday 24th January 2013 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
MICHAEL Appleton believes a “positive” Ewood Park played a big role in Rovers’ improved midweek display – after insisting there was a lot to be encouraged about from the 1-1 draw.
David Lopez’s injury time equaliser may have cost Rovers a crucial win against Brighton on Tuesday night but boss Appleton insisted he saw enough from his men to be confident about the future.
Appleton’s Rovers reign started with a hugely disappointing 2-1 home defeat to Charlton at the weekend, with the presence of owners Venky’s at Ewood leading to a subdued Ewood atmosphere.
The former Blackpool boss noted a marked change in the mood of the supporters on Tuesday night and stressed the importance the Ewood faithful have.
He said: “The atmosphere did help, I would be amazed if anyone thought it wasn’t a different atmosphere to what it was on Saturday. The crowd got behind the team in a positive manner and the players responded, it does help.
“From the first minute we knew how we were going to set up. From the kick off, I think they had the ball for 90 seconds but it was exactly what we wanted because we knew we would hit them on the counter attack, time and time again.
“The longer the game went on, I have probably not felt as relaxed as that for a long time standing on a side of the pitch because I just didn’t think we would concede.
“We controlled the game in terms of we knew exactly how Brighton play and how we would deal with it. Their keeper was certainly a lot busier than ours.
“If we got the second goal we would have won the game comfortably but, as it was, leading 1-0 there is always an opportunity for the opposition to get something at some point.
“I think the most disappointing thing is for 45 seconds the fourth official was screaming down his mic, that’s it, its done, its finished. To concede after that is disappointing.”
While Appleton was disappointed with the time of Brighton’s equaliser, he was also left frustrated at David Goodwillie’s rash challenge to concede the penalty.
But, with Derby County up next in the FA Cup on Saturday, the Rovers boss was quick to stress no one would be allowed to feel sorry for themselves.
He said: “It is a silly challenge from David he knows that. It has cost us. David does not need to say anything.
“I said to the players, especially at this level, when the ball goes in behind you you tend to get a second bite of the cherry. So you don’t have to be as anxious as what David was on the night because at Premier League level you don’t get a chance to get back.
“But in the Championship, they tend to have an extra touch and that was my message to the players. It might happen again in the cup against Derby when a player goes through and we do something rash.
“My point to the players is they tend to take a second or third touch so you will always get the chance to get back. It was rash, he knows that but there is no point in harping on about it. I don’t like players feeling sorry for themselves and I’m sure we will move on very quickly.
“It is a kick in the teeth for us but the one thing I don’t want it to distract from is the performance of the team. I thought the lads played very, very well on the night.”

Appy can turn this around - but needs the fans on-side and if he can get the players giving decent and consistent performances then he will get the results. The cup game gives him a chance to further develop the side as it is against a championship team and rival.
Only worry is that he is still building the side and the departure of Olsson and Dann wont help. These lads are two good players though neither has played to their full potential but we know Olsson can be class and I think you will see a totally different Scott Dann in a confident and winning side.. Will need to spend to replace and need players as good or better so would rather they both stayed at least until the end of the season.

How much did we get for him?
The quote is Palermo have acquired the rights to Formica which begs the question did we ever really own him or was he a tevez type deal?

Pits and troughs, eh mate ! Got a lot of my chest with you and Mr Morst. It's always bubbling away in the background this rancid situation that rears it's ugly head from time to time, but the B&W's have to march on come what may, I would surmise ?
Appleton is going to be very busy on all fronts until the end of this window then the real business or last furlong begins steady away. Some have to leave to make room for new arrivals, dedicated, focused in steadying the good ship Ewood. Achieve the stability we yearn then make a second season assault on the Championship(such as Souness did) should this season end in mid table mediocrity, but safe from the abyss !
This period will live on in I for a very long time, but the future is always unwritten, and our club as, must, rewrite it's distinguished history giving us the supporter a club worth supporting once again with distinction, honor and pride ? Up the B&W's til the day I die(warts and all)
His Bruce Lee knocking about your way, mate :) Ha Ha

Utter failure of tactics and strategy to blame for what was lets be honest, a POOR performance on Tuesday, it was a matter of time until they scored. Apart from Jason Lowes shot and CKR's 40 yard "im christiano" shots we didn't even challenge BRIGHTON'S goal.
Pathetic, the question is how long Venkys persevere with the latest in a long line of inexperienced managers. If MA is already blaming the fans then it will get ugly when we havent picked up 3 points in a game by the end of March.

Dunn is past it must be sold or becomes part of a Rover's coaching team
Robinson needs to be sold too old
Slew sell him
Goodwillie a flop signing sell him
Gael Givet sell him
Dickson Etuhu a poor buy sell him
Nuno Henrique don't even know who he is, sell him ,not been played a part in Rovers league games
There are 42 players on Rover's book a fresh new players are needed ,maybe four or five quality players are needed.A defender,a striker, two midfielders and a keeper.
Venkys came to Ewood in their Rolls Royce with private number plates" RAJAS" in Indian means KINGS.I have read an newspaper article where Venkys gave an Interview about Blackburn Rovers FC ,that they are proud to own a such a historical club in England that also won Premiership Title in 1995.Venkys are a rich family built their business empire over the last forty years or so and their assets are worth around £2 Billion. They have poultry and pharmaceutical business in India,US,Brazil and Spain. They have large palaces, private jet,They paid around £48 million for BRFC.
They are ambitious that Rovers get back in Premier League.
In India these Billionaires are like KINGS,the people of India are majority Hindus and Hindus believe that their Gods of Wealth bestows people with wealth wellbeing and prosperity to such few chosen ones in India like the Venkys.India have about 200 family that are worth over $1 Billion , many are now well known throughout the world like Venkys,Ambanis,TATAS
,Laxmi Mittal,Birlas etc etc. Many of these Indian Billionaires have invested vast sum of money in UK,Europe and USA,

I hope Venkys walk out and leave you with BRAG and have whip around of few thousand quids and administration will follow soon.
Once proud club ,what once proud club ? it was Jack Walkers millions put BRFC in premier league and bought the title with Jack's milions. The WAlker boys sold BRFC and fled to Jersey because BRFC was loosing millions long before Venkys came.Brfc had to sell their best players every year to balance the books over the last seven years. I am staying away from Ewood Park now and no longer intrested in supporting morons who throw snow balls and chanting PAKIS out and VEnkys go home.I was there and i saw the morons were there to cause trouble.I Hope BRFC goes down and VEnkys walk out and let us see what BRAG CAN DO.Because there will be no other billionaire will be intrested in buying such club with morons who throw snow balls at the owners when things are not going their way.

I have read modan's post but don't entirely agree on his or her post .This person is from ethnic background possibly an Indian living in Blackburn come over from India .This person is obsessed by Indian billionaires coming over here and buying up our football clubs and our manufacturing companies and our high street stores. This person happens to love his fellow countrymen coming over here taking over our footbal clubs
But Indians are good people,we have an Indian neighbours and they good educated people they are both doctors and their son is an accountant and the daughter is a school teacher. They told us that there is a large Indian population in Blackburn,Preston,Bo
lton and Manchester.In Burnley,Bury,Rochdal
e,Nelson,Colne,Oldha
m and parts of Manchester there is a large Pakistani population. The Indians don't like the Pakistanis.I have found the Indians more friendly, westernized and more educated than other ethnic population.

I detest racism in any form, I do not condone the words and actions you attribute to those who demonstrated against Venkys, and equally I find your comments offensive, ill-informed, and deeply ignorant and arrogant. In the past I have tried to point out the errors in you posts and present the counter arguments to your tedious ravings. You continue to rant and rave the same diatribe.
I despise those who attempt to make this a race issue and as you appear to be such a person you will not be missed at Ewood by me.

the trick to not being mistaken for a modan is to not take up half your post raving about how rich venkys are, how rich the indian billionaires are and how many peviously british companies are now in indian ownership.
It is not relevant to a discussion about Blackburn Rovers because frankly nobody cares where the owners come from, its what they do that matters.

But i am a bit confused about your post that i M.Danny been posting comments for years now.
Frankly i don't care about the where this owner came from but Walkers did sell them BRFC and were delighted the deal went through that Venkys were rich billionaires from India which i never heard of them .You say its what matter they do that matters now.If you look at Appleton, comment that he came to Ewood Park because the owners are very ambitious people and thats say it all.If you look at the current boardroom and the players and they say that Venkys are very ambitious people and wants BRFC back in Premier League. If you don't believe in your club's boardroom or the club's new manager then something tells me you are not happy with the current owners.I am happy with the boardroom the new manager in charge and the current squad of players.

No other rich foriegn billionaires wanted to buy a small club in East Lancashire.
There was no proud club life before Jack Walker. It was Jack Walker's millions got Brfc in Premier League and won the Title in 1995 with Jack's millions.
There were morons at Ewood Park on saturday 19th January 2013 who threw snowballs at Venkys and called them go back PAKIS where you came from.Well i hope the Venkys walk away and leave you lot with BRAG and administration will follow like Leeds ,Rangers and Pourtsmouth. The morons made it a race issue.I will not follow a club full of morons that threw snowballs at current owners and that was the final straw for me.I suggest if you are not happy with current owners may i suggest you take it up with the BRFC boardroms and the the current manager.Stop posting your nonsence that it's what the owners do at the club right now thats matter. It's up to the owner hat they do at the club it's their business if you don't like like it don't go to Ewood Park like the rest of the morons. Its Venkys club now they can do what they like ,they can invest in the club or they sell up and walk away now.
