SAM Vokes' third goal of the season has given Burnley the edge against Millwall at The Den.

The Clarets burst out of the blocks on a bitterly cold day in south east London, and were rewarded for their efforts in the 22nd minute.

After a series of openings for Danny Lafferty, Danny Ings, Dean Marney and Junior Stanislas the breakthrough finally came for Welsh international Vokes.

The 23-year-old had linked up with Stanislas for his previous two goals this season, and the duo combined again to good effect.

Stanislas capped a lively start by jinking his way into the box and moving the ball onto Vokes, who toe-poked the ball through goalkeeper David Forde's legs.

James Henry almost struck back for Millwall but his dipping effort from the edge of the box landed on the roof of the net.
