I will be surprised if any money is spent unless of course we get

Craig Dawson has not made the progress I expected him to at WBA. Despite his youth, he was a star performer at Rochdale under Keith Hill and was the "League 2 Player of the Year." He would make a good acquisition in the circumstances, but I am not so convinced about Scott Wiseman, who was a team mate of Dawson at the Dale.

If by some miracle we did get promoted how long would we stay there with this squad. My guess we would do a re-run of the Dingle debacle.
It would take at least 50 million to replace the squad that Venkys sold (just an estimate) to compete in the Prem.... Will Venkys fund that ?

That's true harwoodstblue, if Rovers had more supporters like lusorover then Venky's wouldn't need to hire a PR firm and could probably spend that money on players, unfortunately not many Rovers fans seem to have the realistic understanding of the running costs of a football club that lusorover is demonstrating.

Venky's are spending millions more on Rovers than any other club in the division is spending, losing about £2 million per month. If you say you've made a profit of £30 million on players sales (no idea of the actual figure) then at £2 million a month that's only going to last 15 months, just over a year - without spending any of it on transfer fees.

Having had years and years of supporting Rovers where finances weren't an issue has sheltered your fans from the reality. You used to laugh at Burnley and ask where all the money had gone but we actually are very aware of the reality of the situation with club finances at this level without rich backers. It's not just the headline figure of the transfer fee which is almost never all up front, it's wages, signing on fees, agents fees, loyalty bonuses. You've got ground maintenance, non-footballing staff, policing costs etc. It's not as simple as you think, not even close, something which lusorover has grasped and you haven't, if your fans don't get realistic then the negativity is going to drag your side down just as much as the Venky's have with their mismanagement (which, annoyingly from a Burnley fans perspective, they seem to be starting to turn a corner on) - and no one who has the money will have any interest in picking up the pieces if you drive them out.

The Wisemann deal was the start of the end for Appleton at Blackpool, Oysten wouldn’t pay the fee or wages that Barnsley and the player wanted. So its pretty obvious that Appleton has seen something in this player he likes and wants in his team.

People seem to be moaning because were looking to sell Olsson for in the region of £4m and buying Wisemann for £150,000 as negative. If we were paying £4 for Wisemann would people still be moaning? The moaning seems to be about the amount that’s being spent, if Wisemann turns out to be a great signing for that price then this is amazingly fantastic business in anybody's eyes.

Thank god! At least Appleton's a man who knows what he wants. Blackpool frustrated him because he was basically told that he had to sell a couple of his key players, but get no funds to replace them, as well as getting into the play-offs.

I just would like to see us attempt to sign a player who is going to really show we have ambition. Rochina is a playmaker, but we don't have a player who regularly gives Rhodes chances. Nunes did it for 1 game then got a hamstring problem.

At least an attempt is being made to rectify our defence. I do think Dann is improving though, he had a diabolic first season and a half however his displays recently have been dominant. I haven't seen Wiseman enough to pass comment.

No such problems....Yes, we had some debt like every other club, but it was well managed, probably losing £2 million per YEAR, not £2 million per month, and self inflicted.

Well I would like to know which players that have left Ewood and gone on to star for their new teams after being lamblasted by our fans for being rubbish.
The fact is I can remember back 50 years and still cannot recall anyone except maybe a centre half that did well in Germany but he wasn't getting too much stick when he was here.
I still think the clubs fans are the best barometer on how good the player is.Frank Lampard for example will obviously be a good signing for the club he joins as the Chelsea fans are aware he puts in a full shift.

Revision John O'Mara got stick and scored a lot of goals for Swindon but was still a technically inept player but could head.

However, if you are stating this today, how come you (and others on here) sometimes post that Venkys are putting £2m cash per month into the club to prop it up.

If you really believed that (and there is NO evidance to suggest they are) then any profits from player sales would be exactly be that as we would be running at neither a profit or a loss.

I can't beieve Paul Agnew gets £100,000s of pounds per year and the club pays you sod all - you are far better at club/Venky propaganda than he is.

Not a voice of reason surely. Look at Venkys Group profits of around £10 million last year and £13 million the year before - yes it's all available via the internet, have a look - and you might grasp that they don't have millions to give away.

First time I've ever commented on a Rovers article so don't just shoot me down as a typical "Dingle-on-a-windup" but...

That's true harwoodstblue, if Rovers had more supporters like lusorover then Venky's wouldn't need to hire a PR firm and could probably spend that money on players, unfortunately not many Rovers fans seem to have the realistic understanding of the running costs of a football club that lusorover is demonstrating.

Venky's are spending millions more on Rovers than any other club in the division is spending, losing about £2 million per month. If you say you've made a profit of £30 million on players sales (no idea of the actual figure) then at £2 million a month that's only going to last 15 months, just over a year - without spending any of it on transfer fees.

Having had years and years of supporting Rovers where finances weren't an issue has sheltered your fans from the reality. You used to laugh at Burnley and ask where all the money had gone but we actually are very aware of the reality of the situation with club finances at this level without rich backers. It's not just the headline figure of the transfer fee which is almost never all up front, it's wages, signing on fees, agents fees, loyalty bonuses. You've got ground maintenance, non-footballing staff, policing costs etc. It's not as simple as you think, not even close, something which lusorover has grasped and you haven't, if your fans don't get realistic then the negativity is going to drag your side down just as much as the Venky's have with their mismanagement (which, annoyingly from a Burnley fans perspective, they seem to be starting to turn a corner on) - and no one who has the money will have any interest in picking up the pieces if you drive them out.

You make a number of sensible, well reasoned points, Claret. However, under the old regime, i.e. John Williams, he spoke to the fans and told it like it was. Fans trusted him and believed him. It was pellucidly clear that Rovers were punching above their weight and gravity would eventually win The Indians have decided to go a different way, as their money entitles them to do, so be it. I believe the club is on the fast route to bankruptcy. With Williams et al still there we could have expected to be a solid Championship side, which is probably our rightful place. I believe, however, that some fans still hold unrealistic expectations of the clubs potential. They are entitled to their view..

What a load of bull........We've been paying the bills and running costs that EVERY club has for 138 years. We know what it takes to run a club without being told by a Burnley fan. We were well run until 2 years ago and holding our own in the Prem, making small losses each year,

The problems started when Venkys rode into town and if it wasn't for their incompetence we would still be there, no problem.

Thank god! At least Appleton's a man who knows what he wants. Blackpool frustrated him because he was basically told that he had to sell a couple of his key players, but get no funds to replace them, as well as getting into the play-offs.

I just would like to see us attempt to sign a player who is going to really show we have ambition. Rochina is a playmaker, but we don't have a player who regularly gives Rhodes chances. Nunes did it for 1 game then got a hamstring problem.

At least an attempt is being made to rectify our defence. I do think Dann is improving though, he had a diabolic first season and a half however his displays recently have been dominant. I haven't seen Wiseman enough to pass comment.

Good suggestion, he's up for sale, has a good cross on him and more importantly has been promoted before. I personally am a fan of Adomah at Bristol City, apparently he's around the £1m mark at the moment. That price doesn't make it seem like an ambitious move, but it's known throughout that he is a quality player who really should be plying his trade in the Premier League. Swansea want him though.

Appleton, from looking at his targets, likes grafters so maybe Etuhu will be kicked into shape, become the player he should of been when we signed him? If he does, it'll be like a new signing. I just really hope we move forward this time, the turn of the year has been great so far, finger crossed.

Right there is the problem with the naysayers at the moment. You can't see past "until Venky's arrived.."

No-one anywhere (well, apart from Modan and a Roverspal and they're just plain wierd) are claimin that what Venkys have done since they arrived is commendable. We all know what happened, theres no need to keep rehashing history, what is important now is what are they going to do to rectify it.

We either try to get out of the mess we're in by attending and showing support to the team or we can sit at home spitting out our dummies that we don't want to keep lining Venky's pockets or turn up only to boo and protest and risk further decline.

No doubt those same people will sleep easy knowing they can keep blaming Venky's if it happens, but it won't change the outcome.

Players that have been rubbish at Blackburn but gone on to success with other clubs ?

Barry Ferguson, £6m+ waste of a shirt for Rovers, sold him back to Rangers, for about £4m less, and they made him their captain.

Kevin Davies, £7m of completely without any redeeming features at Ewood, living legend at the Reebok.

Not sure what this proves but it answers the question.
