West Ham cool interest in Blackburn Rovers star
9:44am Wednesday 16th January 2013 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
WEST Ham United look to set to admit defeat in their pursuit of Martin Olsson with Blackburn Rovers continuing to price the Swedish international out of the market.
The Hammers had a bid in the region of £2million rejected for the left back earlier in the month and were told their valuation of the player was significantly lower than the club’s.
Reports yesterday claimed former Rovers boss Sam Allardyce was about to come in with an improved offer for the 24-year-old, although no further official contact has been made since the initial bid.
Now West Ham manager Allardyce has admitted their interest in Olsson is all but over for the moment, claiming Rovers are asking too much for him.
Allardyce said: “We’ve not made any further enquiries or any further bids for Martin Olsson.
“At this moment in time we haven’t got the funds to go back in with a higher bid.”
West Ham are not the only club interested in Olsson this month, with a number of clubs from across Europe monitoring his situation. No other official bids have been received though and, with Rovers believed to be asking for offers in excess of £6m before even considering selling, the club remain confident of keeping him.
Sources close to the player have told the Lancashire Telegraph he would be interested in the opportunity to speak to a suitor – should an offer be accepted – but is not about to try to force a move away from Ewood Park.
Olsson, who is under contract until 2015, is believed to be content with life in East Lancashire and ready to play a key role in the club's push for an instant Premier League return.
The player had initially feared Premier League relegation would harm his international aspirations but, with that having not come to fruition, Olsson is unlikely to make life difficult for the club if a move does not transpire this month.
Rovers have been boosted by the news January signing Josh King is expected to be available for Saturday’s visit of Charlton, despite missing Friday’s draw at Wolves with a hamstring injury.
King is understood to be back in training this week, with Friday’s withdrawal precautionary, and is likely to be available for new boss Michael Appleton.
Appleton took the chance to watch some of his squad in action in a behind closed doors friendly against Fleetwood at Brockhall yesterday.
The new manager gave run-outs to a number of senior players including Gael Givet, Mauro Formica, David Goodwillie and Nuno Gomes in the 2-1 victory.
Striker Anton Forrester also played in the fixture with Rovers set to seal a deal for the 18-year-old Everton youngster in the coming days.

I think Defenders is really the only place we NEED signings. Not because Hanley or Dann are doing a bad job (which i don't think they are, much improved from last season), but simply to provide cover. When Best, Nunes (cracking RW material!) and Henley come back we should be in pretty good shape squad wise.

It is refreshing to note for the moment at least that we are fending off interest from potential buyers.
Credit to the owners and the management if they can maintain this position to the end of the window.

Boycotts and demonstrations have achieved nothing except to reduce attendances and generate exceptionally bad publicity for the fans.
I presume that you think that fans and fans' groups should not aim to support and build but rather destroy?

if you wear sackcloth and ashes, you show by your behaviour that you are very sorry for something you did wrong ).
They will then prostrate themselves in front of Madam D. Begging forgiveness for putting the club in such dire straits. Michael Appleton will be standing at the rear brandishing his whip, ready to whip them all into shape.

Do they deserve credit for actually bothering to turn up to see "their baby" ??
What have they now done that makes you think they have "Turned the corner" ? - bear in mind you have been posting for the last 18 months that you think they have "now learned their lesson" (I suppose sooner or later you'll get it right !!).
Christ, if these Indians gang raped you on a bus you'd thank them, take the positives, blame yourself and say, that they had been a "bit naughty but now they'd learned there lesson so lets all look to the future as one big happy family and we'll all live happily ever after".
I bet you still believe in fairies at the end of your garden and father Christmas as well !!

Maybe you need to take off your tinted glasses too and see the truth for what it is.
Venky's own Rovers. They bought it lock stock and turnstile thanks to our not so caring previous owners. (yes, apparently they own the grounds and Brockhall too, contrary to previous suggestions that they were rented).
They can and will do whatever they want with it if you don't like it, you need to move on with your life and accept the truth.
As an analogy, If your family owned a classic car and it was sold to someone whose idea of classic was to rip out the best bits, sell them off and replace them with cheap unbranded knockoffs, you wouldn't have any rights to expect them to maintain it to the level you have come to expect it to be treated - regardless of what they promised you when you sold it to them. It was sold. They bought it. It doesn't make it right and you have every right to feel upset, let down, decieved etc. You can't change the fact that it doesn't belong to you. Not a perfect analogy I accept, since the buyer wouldn't be hoping you'd still keep paying to ride in it and enjoy it, but it makes the point.
It doesn't make it right, but then those who deal in right and wrong rarely make millions.
The idea of it somehow belonging to the fans and what Venky's are doing to it are sadly foolish sentimental notions that were left behind a long time ago when big money came into Football and it became a ludicrous business.
Reality is, if you no longer feel Ewood is the place you could call your own, you either move on or add further to its destruction, thus ruining it for those who are trying to above the political circus and concentrate on supporting the team.
If you want to vent bitterness at anyone, you should aim it at the Walkers Trust, who will be even right now without remorse and blissfully unaware of the damage their greed has caused, enjoying the millions they made from Jack's legacy.
Maybe the protesters should take their protest outside Walkers and demand they take action to mediate between the protesters and Venky's as to why the promises they made haven't been kept.
If anyone owes us anything, it surely starts with them.

Riversidefan, Venky's deserve credit only for not getting sick of the negative results they themselves created and walking away. Not exactly a pat yourself on the back moment to be proud of, but they also haven't done many of the lies that have been fabricated to add fuel to the fire, above and beyond what is already known about the clueless decisions that were made and trusting agents who pocketed huge sums of royalties - which is common practice and should have never been allowed.
Venky's look like very strange asset strippers, if the lies are to be believed. Clueless incompetence can be rectified. Evil intentions cannot. I think you're misinterpreting lusorovers comment when you say we want to return to the old days of small club and fanbase.
Like myself and many others, we are just making the point that antagonising Venky's into leaving and subsequent administration is not in the best interest of the club surely?
