Blackburn Rovers Blog: Experience is needed despite job of Bowyer

LIFE as a Blackburn Rovers columnist is pretty miserable these days, so it is with great pleasure I can announce that this week’s installment will be positive.
I don’t know what Gary Bowyer and Terry McPhillips have done in training that previous coaching teams seemed incapable of, but it certainly seems to be working.
The players have a new confidence and already you can feel there seems a better atmosphere in the dressing room.
On Saturday we controlled the game against lacklustre opposition, and you can’t help but feel that despite Bristol City doing their best to lose the game, under Berg or Kean we wouldn’t have been so comfortable Memories of the glory years when Tony Parkes would step into the breach come streaming back.
On numerous occasions the Sheffield-born Rovers legend would get his caretaker’s sweeping brush out to clear up a mess left by the previous incumbent and often turn results around.
Three consecutive wins in a season marred by mediocrity and consecutive clean sheets for a team who apparently couldn’t defend is no mean feat.
And Bowyer, who it turns out has gone one step further than his father who went for the Rovers job when Don Mackay got it in 1987, has put his name well and truly in the frame for when a permanent appointment is made.
Personally, though I like the way things are going, I think we still need to turn to someone proven.
Bowyer has done a great job in a short space of time, but you never know how long it will last.
He deserves recognition and appreciation, and indeed we shall see how things stand come the end of the month, but to permanently employ a coach as manager would be yet another gamble.
I find it bizarre that Venky’s have delayed any appointment until after the transfer window closes.
The only explanation I can think of for for such a move, apart from that they want to give Bowyer a chance, is that they don’t want to stump up any transfer cash.
Meanwhile, an amusing Facebook post came from former Rovers midfielder Mark Patterson last week.
The 47-year-old from Darwen threw his hat into the ring for the manager’s job in tongue-in-cheek fashion.
He said: “I’m gonna send my CV to Singh. It reads: Over 500 league games, 70-plus goals, never been relegated, captained several teams, had promotions, lots of bookings.
“Still owe the FA £250 for getting booked 13 times in 23 games during my last season as a pro.
“Laid more than 100 patios, over 50 driveways, put up lots of fencing, grass is a speciality, work long hours.”
Surely worth a punt . . .

He has got the team fired up. We all know that the quality is there in the squad but it is clear that the players are now motivated in a way we have not seen since Sam's time at best.
The upheaval involved in bringing in a new manager and the risks associated with that process could derail our season for good.

for example, if bowyer continued to do well up until the end of the month or longer, what exactly would be the point of not allowing him to take the reigns just because he was previously a coach. it would make no sense and would prove a higher risk strategy than just simply leaving him to continue doing the things he was doing.
i suspect Singh is angling for a Director of Football role which would see him control most of the signings anyway, so in many ways this head coach type of role is probably what he wants anyway. it's pretty much what was happening with kean towards the end.

You'll never know how long good form will last whoever is in charge. It's a weak objection to Bowyer staying in charge, if he keeps winning games, where's the problem? You don't know how long he can keep the run going, so who's to say he can't keep us unbeaten until the end of the season? Lets enjoy the good form whilst it lasts.
And do you actually get paid for copying half your article from Facebook?

C'mon Singh, you know you can do it! Pick up the phone!
Whilst you're at it sign Messi too, another ballon d'hor.
Wait a minute, how about Maradona to coach him.
And why not Beckham too as a twilight shift now he's leaving LA. I'm sure he'd be perfect for a Venkys TV ad and Posh will just love living in Whalley Range.
Sorted!

At this stage of the season I think it wise to stay with them, however they need help from an experienced director of football who could come in without rocking the boat, There are many around who could be tempted by a short contract, Venables, Hoddle, Sven etc.
Then appoint a decent Chairman and we might start to move forward, thats if there is no interference from the owners and their puppets.

Any players on high earning and at a age were we will not get good transfer fees 4 2 b frozen out ......Robinson & Givet.
Any players of a young age and we will get more in return than what we paid 4 them will b sold ..... Olssen
When the payments end from the premiership venkys will jump ship and we will become another Portsmouth

It's ok saying he's done we'll but Barnsley, Bristol City and a below average Forest team are nothing to write home about, and fortunately we've got another poor side at home on Friday.
I will enjoy it whilst it lasts :-)
Just hope we get a few more supporters off their arses and onto seats.

Venky's maybe naive, they're certainly not as stupid as people like to think.
Not saying it couldn't happen, of course it could. But there's a much bigger picture that is being missed. Venky's don't just need us to be in the premiership for obvious financial reasons, they've staked a huge amount of their future business plans into this. What appears to be huge amounts of money in asset stripping to us, is but a pittance to what they stand to make if they can make this work with what's happening in India with football.
If you want to learn more, you can do some research in what the 20-20 league is worth, and then look at what Venky's are doing with the football academies in India.
Believe me, these are high money stakes. If Venky's can establish these academies as football takes off - as it is in India, they will attract BILLIONS worth of investment.
Cricket is still the biggest sport in India, but football is growing fast, that's why you are seeing the likes of Ronaldo working with them. Madame Desai didn't allow the purchase of Rovers as a whim. There's a long term objective in all of this and it has little to do with the sad little conspiracy theories of those who have little or no evidence to back up their slanderous claims, hiding behind pseudo names on a local newspaper articles.
Don't have to believe a word of what I say, but most of this info is on the Internet if you look for it.

Primarily i dont understand the reason of Venkys avoiding transfer window, Is there any championship team spending 8$M for a striker and hiding on a transfer window ?
And he is suggesting this thinking that we'll believe this , how moronic!
We are having the best team in the championship and the Venkys have had their transfer window in the start of the season and they haven't waited for January
Their only bad luck is that they couldn't get a **** coach!!
Otherwise rovers are going to be on Top and we don't even need play offs to help us!!
ARTE ET LABORE!!

I'm glad they've not unsettled the team just yet as they're playing well for Gary and Terry. However, should we fail to win our next couple of games there will be a lot of fans demanding the immediate appointment of a proven manager.
Personally, I think they've stopped looking as Venky's are too busy dealing with the in-house squabbling. We need to get rid of Singh, Shaw and Agnew soon or face continued disruption in the day-to-day running of the club that they're probably paid very well to oversee. 'Too many chiefs' springs to mind.
Brown, Curbishley, Souness, Hoddle, Hughes, Venables, Keane, O'Driscoll. All available managers who, should the worst happen, be available to start work straight away. There should be no delays, no deliberations, no excuses.
