Berg: I make the decisions at Blackburn Rovers
11:19am Friday 14th December 2012 in Football
By Andy Cryer, Blackburn Rovers reporter
A DEFIANT Henning Berg insists he makes all the foot-balling decisions at Ewood Park after rubbishing reports he is being forced into changing his coaching staff by Shebby Singh.
The Lancashire Telegraph understands that changes in Berg’s backroom staff are still to be expected, while a national newspaper report yesterday claimed global advisor Singh was insisting that the Norwegian makes alter-ations behind the scenes.
But, ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Blackpool, Rovers’ boss was adamant he was still assessing his staff and that he would be the one to make the ultimate decision.
Berg did confirm that Colin Hendry had been moved from first team coach to assistant reserve team manager, under Gary Bowyer, but played down the significance of Monday’s talks with Singh, operations director Paul Agnew and managing director Derek Shaw.
Berg (pictured right) said: “Every club in the country will have meetings and that was just what it was, nothing special.
“I am surprised to see things in the papers, with things coming out, I don’t know why it was coming out and how it was coming out.
“It is normal for every profession to have meetings.
“I said when I first came that I will assess things and when I get to know the people we will see, and that position is still the same.
“My situation is the same, I will assess things. I am the manager, I will make the decisions I think is right for the club, in terms of how we play football, players in and out, staff, they are all my decisions.“I don’t think that is a problem at all.
“As a manager you are responsible for results and the minute you start to do things for others or things you don’t think are right, you have no chance.
“I have been in football so long, I know to expect speculation and rumours.
“If I worried about that I wouldn’t be able to do my job.
“I know who is making the decisions here.”
Meanwhile Berg will assess his squad ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Bloomfield Road with Danny Murphy and David Dunn potentially returning from injury.
Mauro Formica will also be assessed after undergoing a knee scan earlier this week as Rovers look for only their second win under Berg.
“Gato has played all our games and he has not been used to playing so many games,” revealed Berg.
“Those games have taken their toll on him and he’s got a knock, so we’ll see on Friday or Saturday how he is.
“Danny and David are getting closer but we’ll have to wait and see if they are available or not.”

What a joke if 'Hendry' isnt good enough for first team duties he certainly isnt good enough for the up and coming youngsters of reserve team football - neither is he a good Role Model for them off the field - he should have been one of the first to be shown the door or is there something more sinister behind the scenes that ensures he keeps his job - what a laughing stock the Rovers are becoming!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just one thing Henning, why hasn't Vucevic been given a chance ? He's looked pretty useful the odd time he's been given a run out ,and what's wrong with Givet, the only one with any guts that we seem to have at the moment ?

In 2 years from 11th in the premier to 13th in the championship, and falling down the championship table with 1 win in 8 games, and a bunch of overpaid useless players in the first 11 such as Scott Dann, Danny Murphy and Dickson Etuhu?

We are heading for oblivion unless these clueless arrogant owners wake up and start listening to people who know football and know what they are talking about, instead of employing yes men to agree with everything they say. The Venkys must firstly accept that they are clueless and need help, otherwise this situation will only get worse.

As much as the current run of form is painful, and Berg appears to be struggling, he needs a chance. If he goes, we've even less chance of attracting a decent manager after him.
I for one will make my mind up on Berg in May. Whilst available cash won't be plentiful, I just hope the office idiots let him get on with changing the playing staff in January to what he wants.

Berg knows more about football than Shaw, Agnew and Singh combined. I feel sorry him having to put up with these clowns every day. And the useless mercenaries signed by them and Kean that Berg has to work with.

Absolutely Bergs decision in so far that he recognizes that the backroom staff are in need of a major reshuffle considering the woeful return these last two tears.
Blackburn Rovers have an etched history into it's defensive organization - Don Mckay being the light to hold up.
Henning Berg was a top, top defender of his generation, and in no way will he wish to see the disaster before him plus his managerial credentials are at stake here.
Let Berg go about his business in restoring the great history we have(warts and all). Berg as more of an affiliation with BRFC than the previous imposter.
Bergs path will be long and full of hardships considering the right royal fook up he as inherited. He his no magician and only time will tell if he his to succeed ? In making him a success, we the supporter, have to get behind him failing that then we will most certainly implode.
Of course, his managerial success rate thus far is flattering to decieve, but let him put in place his own vision and then we can judge him form there ?
Our club is in a state of freefall and only the likes of Berg, who as the club at heart, can pull us through this sorry mess.
Once we become objective rather than subjective the reality is there for all to see. Our subjectivety is paramount to Bergs success at this time for the reality would see us all walk away washing our hands period !
Berg is a good man with honorable intentions for our grand and founder member club.
I'm backing him in bucking the trend that as besieged our club.

Maybe I can get a little sentimental here KOTGKO - our hearts are not the problem here, but the problem lays within our hearts. The backroom staff over these last years simply haven't been up to the task, and adding the conjecture that as become synonymous with BRFC regards the odious one's wretched management the time as arrived which is now becoming tangible that big changes are absolutely imperative if BRFC are to function as a professional football club. With that in mind Venky can be seen to be making (huge) strides with backing Berg thus we can hope that the debacle created by the odious one with the naive backing of Venky will be exposed for what it was - NUTS !
I can safely say, and though I do not profess to be an authority on football, the past two years what I have witnessed for the majority as left me with a heavy sinking of the heart such was the dysfunctional nature of the beast.
Dismantling takes a mere blink of the eye - rebuilding is costly and fraught with hidden dangers that could take years in rebuilding.
Berg is a footballing man - period. The odious one clung onto the shirt tales such as Berg and adding his flimflam to the equation most certainly fooled the Venky. Now they must rectify this situation for their will be far reaching ramifications down the line for Venky make no mistake, and I truly believe they didn't and don't wish for that to happen ?
Berg is being as cool as an iceberg with all of this situation whilst, in my opinion at least - slowly, but surely helping, if not fully solving this, with pragmatic actions resulting in BRFC looking once again a team to be revered at the level it arrives at ?
Venky be advised we want our football club and team back on a footing that befits hence let the manager manage football matters.
Just a thought folk's ?

Surely moving Hendry to the bed-next-to-the-door is good news. Careful, careful, catch a monkey as my grannie used to say.
Just some tightening in mid defence - I'm sure Berg himself could do better paired with Givet than Dann and Hanley whose combined mobility is less than the old Atlantean double decker in the turning circle up Shadsworth. Tightening in midfield - anyone who has a forward gear and some wind in his lungs, and getting in some crosses for Rhodes and the ship can be steadied with a couple of bargain buys in January.

Our club is in a state of freefall and only the likes of Berg, who as the club at heart, can pull us through this sorry mess.
Arte et labore
That really is some achievement.
But perhaps they are trying to put things right? The comings and goings over the next few weeks will give some indication of this.
Venky's were never going to get an experienced manager to take over the shambles they created, as I said at the time, not many are that stupid, so it was always going to be someone like Berg who was trying to get a foot on the ladder.
And in all fairness we can't expect Berg to change things overnight, everything about the club is negative, it's going to take a lot to turn that around.

Our owners at the time, the Walker trust wanted rid of Rovers and were certainly not investing anything.
Jack Walker must still be turning in his grave.
We had a manager (Lardarse) who didn't actually want to manage us, remember he was touting himself all around the planet, including Barca, Arab states, etc; etc, and had to be begged to stay on by Williams.
Not everything in the garden was as rosy as some would like to paint.
That said Venky's have screwed up royally.
I might remind some that 12 months ago people were ranting and raving on here that Venky's never told us what was going on, now every time their representative, Shebby, opens his mouth......we complain, deride, insult, rant, rave.
