We look like different team under Berg, says Blackburn Rovers star
9:45am Tuesday 13th November 2012 in Football
By Chris Flanagan, Sports reporter
MARTIN Olsson believes Blackburn Rovers are already looking like ‘a different team’ under Henning Berg – but has warned that it will take time to reach their full potential.
Olsson jetted off on international duty after Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham as he prepares to represent Sweden in their friendly match against England tomorrow.
The 24-year-old was left frustrated by Rovers’ weekend result but took encouragement from that performance and the display in last week’s 2-2 draw at Huddersfield Town.
Rovers are yet to claim a win in the three games since former Ewood title winner Berg took over as manager.
But Olsson thinks they are already looking much improved as a team – even if it will take time to adjust to new methods under the Norwegian, the full-time replacement for Steve Kean.
“I am frustrated but so is everyone else,” Olsson said looking back on Saturday’s draw.
“We just have to stay positive and keep playing the good football we have been playing in the last two games. Hopefully three points will come soon. I think we look like a different team now anyway.
“I am not going to say anything bad about Kean, he was good in his way as well, but Berg was a legend when he was playing.
“I always watched him play and the way he speaks we listen. We can learn a lot from him because he has been in the same situation. He is always positive.
“It is still very early, he has only been here a week, but he does a lot of tactics like working the whole team instead of the back four.
“It is everyone together and I think it has been shown on the pitch.
“He wants us to play football, not be silly, but to play quick.
“It won’t take a week to change, it will be slow but things are looking good.”
Olsson will face England for the third time in a year tomorrow, in the opening match at Stockholm’s new Friends Arena.
Sweden lost 3-2 at Euro 2012 and were beaten 1-0 in a friendly at Wembley last November.
“I am looking forward to playing against England of course,” he said.
“We had a good game against them in the Euros. It is always good to play England.”
And Martin has formed a left-sided partnership with twin brother Markus in recent Rovers games, something that the duo are happy about.
“If Markus keeps getting the games and I keep playing we will get a partnership, it is good to play with him but it doesn’t matter who we play with,” Martin added.
“Berg wants us to step it up on the pressing. We have conceded sloppy goals, but we will work on that. We need to start winning games.”

I like the fact Berg isnt afraid to bring in our youth prospects and give them a run, I think Henley has done a great job at RB considering his age.
Formica, Rochina and Vukčević look differnet players playing under Berg. I would like to see Gomes & Rhodes up front together Saturday both have proven they can find the back of the net.

Berg is clearly stamping his mark on the team, still early days but things sound and look like they are finally moving in the right direction.

What we are happy for, is because we can now see some light at the end of the tunnel. The team is already playing better, and thats after only a week, Henning Berg talks a lot of sense, and there are plenty of positives coming from the players, just a few weeks ago Olsen wanted out! So after more than two years of hell we can see our team on the pitch coming back together....Thats what we are loving.....

Martin doesn't have to say anything bad about Kean, what he's said about Berg tells us what he thought about Kean - massively lacking in defensive awarness and tactical planning. The fact that he says the players listen when Berg talks also says a lot about the respect Kean commanded. I don't remember any plsyer endorsing Kean like that other than the very naieve Orr on relegation night

On Saturday you could see that we were a team playing to a game plan, can't remember the last time a Rovers team played so well.
I have full confidence the results will come with Berg in charge, just be patient.

As it should be. A football team's defence starts from the front. The opposition
cannot score when the ball is in their penalty area.
Football is a simple game, ball down the wings, cross to centreforward, ball in back of net, simples!! Unfortunately for a long time we have lacked that ball down the wings. Now Henning can address that problem and get it sorted for Saturday, when we should see his first 3 points. (Let's hope so.).

On the upside the pitch still looks stunning, probably because Steve Patrick has some great places to hide so Venkys never replaced him with a Kentaro Grass Advisor. Probably the only person who was here when Henning last kicked a ball for us.

Hendry may or may not be all the things he's made out to be, but every organisation has its ducious characters, I have a few where I work, its not a game changer. As long as he's able to do his job, his personal life is his own. One thing you always seem to miss out in your anti-hendry tirade - and I'm in no means pro-hendry - is that he wasnt convicted for any of the offences you have named, and in this proud nation at least, you are innocent until proven guilty.
Not the other way round. Give it a rest will you,

Bordeaux is a beautiful city and one of my most favourite places anywhere, and we spend a lot of time there for all kinds of things from shopping to concerts to eating out. Sarlat is a wonderful place too, always good to visit in summer, going down by the river.
How do you get back for the matches, drive or fly? I drove back for the Bristol City and Palace games. I would be interested in finding out more about how you travel and to which games if possible?
You should get a good reward from your trip back this week, as we should pick-up HB's first win and three really important points at the Posh!
As for having faith in the V's...well does anyone have faith in them really? They still need to do so much to prove to Rovers fans they have the very best intentions of the club at heart. The Jan transfer window will give us more indication of their intent I think. Safe travel fellow French Rover!

We we're 3rd when he left now we're 7th, 7pts off automatic promotion. Sounds like a great thing for the "fans." They can now sit there silently with their vacant grins. I think the only words most of these fools knew were "Kean out." Some "fans" say Kean treated them with contempt, well I think he had every right to. Dictionary for the remaining Blackburn "fans," new word, contempt.
Anyway I might stage my own boycott now or start throwing Bergers at Berg and the pitch in general.
Actually I won't, I'll SUPPORT the team every time I turn up. Regularly by the way. I'm certainly no season ticket "fan." I may be unhappy but why turn up to drag your side down? Turn up, get behind them. Maybe you get one idiot or a dozen. Maybe we're on clearly doomed, or losing the last game we need to win 5-0 to stay up. Then fair play. Otherwise SUPPORT. We were 3rd. Have a word with yourselves rather than emptily swallowing everything the media make you swallow. Same goes for anything you swallow at your “behind closed doors rendezvous,” of which I’ve been invited but I’m not that way inclined. That sort of thing can make you ill, it can be terminal. Ah, that’s why you did the whole “supporting” thing. Wanted to go out with one last bang. Well you got your wishes, soon Rovers will no longer have you pulling at their feet, you’ll be pushing up the daisies. RIP. Sad face.

Think I was the only person who gave Kean a chance from day one."
So now is the time to admit you got it completely wrong move on and get behind Henning like the majority of Kean haters.

FFS, what is the world coming to? It strikes me everyone misses the point and are intent on knocking spots off one another.
It's a given everyone hated Kean, there is a legacy but ultimately natural selection will apply. Like, loath or tolerate Venkys but they own the Club so for me it's toleration as I don't have a viable alternative.
Do Rovers employ people just based on moral values these days (on heresay) or on an ability to do a job?
For the record I have no faith in Venkys or Singh, Shelf Bloke et al and will lobby for suitable change.
French Rover, I can't believe your misinformed Little England comments regarding The Dordogne, but being from Bordeaux perhaps I should. Living East of Sarlat, there are 8 of us that regularly make the 1900 mile round trip to watch The Rovers and 5 of us will be at Peterborough on Saturday.
I ain't willy waving but just p1ssed off continually reading this nonsense and back biting. You are either a bloody supporter or you're not.
The manager, board and owners wouldn't be my choice but hey we are where we are. I console myself thankfully that I'm not a Claret, have 20 digits as opposed to 24 and have no sexual inclinations whatsoever to my siblings.
After all agent Kean has gone, let's get behind Berg.
We've driven this time but sometimes fly from Bergerac or Limoges depending on time of year and price.
Any suggestion regarding exchanging personal details but not in the public domain?

As it should be. A football team's defence starts from the front. The opposition
cannot score when the ball is in their penalty area.
Football is a simple game, ball down the wings, cross to centreforward, ball in back of net, simples!! Unfortunately for a long time we have lacked that ball down the wings. Now Henning can address that problem and get it sorted for Saturday, when we should see his first 3 points. (Let's hope so.).
