FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 1 Watford 0

JORDAN Rhodes' injury time winner boosted Blackburn Rovers' promotion hopes as they beat Watford 1-0 at Ewood Park this afternoon.

The Scottish international turned smartly in the box to fire home two minutes into injury time to keep Rovers in the play-off positions.

Colin Kazim-Richards had missed a second half penalty as Blackburn Rovers looked like having to settle for a goalless draw at home to Watford.

The first half was a bit of a non event as Rovers dominated possession without ever creating any clear cut chances.

Jordan Rhodes looked isolated in attack, while Colin Kazim-Richards was wasteful in possession on the right wing.

Kazim-Richards did go close with a 20-yard shot that flew just wide, while Jason Lowe saw a fierce 20-yard drive comfortably held by Manuel Almunia.

At the other end, Paul Robinson was a spectator for the majority of the half as Watford seemed content to sit back and attempt to hit the hosts on rare breaks.

The second half showed little improvement as both sides continued to struggle to break each other down.

Ruben Rochina saw a low shot easily held by Almunia after a neat turn on 61, while Jean Alan Fanchone drove a shot into the netting for the visitors.

Kazim Richards almost broke the deadlock on 65 but his glancing header from Morten Gamst Pedersen's left wing cross was straight at Almunia.

Rovers' golden chance came on 76 as they were awarded a penalty after Rhodes' shot had been blocked by Tommie Hoban's arm.

Colin Kazim-Richards stepped up but, as he went to shoot, he slipped and his shot struck the cross bar and was cleared to safety.

Rovers were at least now looking more threatening as the game wore on and they weren't to be denied as Rhodes fired home in the dying seconds, after Rochina's shot had fallen at his feet.

Get in Harry ASAP, or Holloway if not possible.
This is not even 10% of what this squad is capable of.

Atleast Black has learnt you cannot play 7 defenders out of 10 outfield players and expect to win a football match. I saw 5 recognised midfielders and strikers in the team, thats an improvement, just a little too late from Black.

Contrary to other opinions likely coming on here I enjoyed today's game. It made a change to see forward passes, no hoofball plenty of effort. The players probably enjoyed not hearing constant booing etc. ok there is a long way to go but our new manager EB has certainly got them playing better. The defence was virtually under no pressure at anytime during the match. One criticism, JR should have taken the penalty.

Well done to the team!

Three points is three points, regardless of how you get them. I'd rather win 1-0 ugly that lose 4-3 playing pretty. Still, lets all blame the lack of manager for winning a game and keeping another clean sheet.

Pity the boycotters didn't show up again, never mind maybe next time they will come and join us and we can all celebrate together. We will hopefully have a new manager by next weekend. I hope its Simon Grayson if Arry is not available. Holloway is third choice dor me. Gonna have a few scoops tonight. Sorted.

Won't disagree with Andy Cryers report but I'd add my opinion on a few things ...

Jordan Rhodes worked like a devil today, very impressive attitude, but we need to find a way to get someone much closer to him in open play. Rochina was 20-30 yds behind him, Colin KR just doesn't look like a man who wants to play out wide, Gomes seemed to improve the shape and should have been on mutch sooner. Pederson was winning headers on the flank but its difficult to find your centre forward if he's 30+ yds away. He did also contribute a lot of quality balls into the box in a game that was littered with free-kicks.

Iason Lowe also deserves a mention here, he worked tirelessly in midfield and as he pulled up with a hamstring problem will probably be missing, and missed, in the next couple of games.

At 90 minutes this was a tale of 'simply not good enough', we were up against a very, very ordinary team who had come for a point and we hadn't really tested their keeper. By the time the final whistle went we all went home happy because JR finally got a sniff at goal and took his chance.

The 'happy clappers' will be talking about 7 points from 9 and pushing for an automatic promotion position, the 'moaners' will tell you we have just scraped a few points from teams we should have battered.

Personally I still think this squad is under-achieving and we do not have a respected management team in place to give them the organisation and motivation they need. Eric just isn't the man to fix this.

I was a boycotter. But I kept my promise and returned once Kean had gone. So did others but obviously you can't please everyone. I would urge those that stayed away to return ASAP then we can get the atmosphere back at Ewood and urge the team onward and upward. The team are trying their best under trying times. Getting a new manager, or at least getting rid of the caretaker tag should help.

Need to get the management position sorted. We have the b team managing the club in shabby, an administrator who failed at the knob end and Paul Agnew who I have met a few times and he is thick as a plank.

However, everyone says this is a hard division but there isn't a really decent side in it. Given the squad we have and the prospect of strengthening in January (we need some pace) we should walk the division with a half decent management team. In the playoff places without a single decent 90 mins performance - which in itself should be cause for optimism plus we have a centre forward whonwill score goals given any sort decent supply.

Rhodes is a machine on legs. Tireless energy, quick thinking. Only thing missing today was a bit of instant ball control. Let the ball get away from him on a few occasions but so what he did what he had to do when it mattered. Rochino also had a good game. But needs to be a bit more accurate with his ball distribution. Nice to see Robinson distribute the ball better, not many big hoofs. CKR lost it a couple of times, frustration doesn't help but nice to see such spirit. He was mightily relieved when JR scored.

Basser predicted a solid 1-0 and that is what we got. BTW - I have never seen as many positive posts from you Darener :) Rhodes is excellent but needs help from Gomes or someone who can play closer to him.....a scruffy win but three good points. Very tidy passing, lots of good possession but no end product because Rhodes was on his own and Watford had 11 men behind the ball. It was pretty boring until Gomes and Murphy came on. Worst thing was the crowd. Very poor turn out. Club has a lot to do to win fans back though the players are doing what they can off todays showing. Pity all those who said they would be back once Kean had gone, didn't really mean it. The club will go under with crowds like todays. Bet everybody flocks for tickets for the Burnley game

Thing is mate, yours isnt a principle. Its an ever changing excuse. We all know what weve been put through by Venkys and now Singh but Eric Black has done nothing to date that does not warrant our support until the managerial situation is sorted. The players also deserve support. You cant keep coming and going as the personnel doesnt suit you. It's a child's game. Be big enough to own up that you just cant be bothered anymore.

So called fans who boo players are just glory seeking scum who should just don a red shirt and be done with it. They're an embarrassment that reflect badly on true supporters. God knows what the visiting fans thought of a club whose fans boo there own players.

Pathetic. just pathetic. Thankfully these idiots are in their absolute minority,

I think when Kean was dismissed a lot of people had been very patient having spent money and put up with this utter shambles for two years, only to be put into further torment by the total lack of communication from Venkys and the time it is taking to appoint a new manager have all contributed to people developing a bit of apathy towards the club and who knows finding other ways to spend their Saturdays, there are a lot of bridges to be built I only hope it isn't too late with the damage this lot have done an appology would go I long way

Is this Hendry or his agent?? HENDRY HAS GOT TO GO!! The club owes him absolutely no loyalty. Jack Walker knew what type of character he was. Either get Harry in or get on the blower to the QPR owner and offer to take on Hughesie and co's contract. We'd then have a decent manager and quality backroom staff. Whatever happens, Hendry has to go...nobody wants someone who robs old people of their life savings. It is abhorrent that he was offered a job in the first place...but then again, he is Shebby's ESPN bum chum. No doubt Hendry will be desperate to get one of his chums in (McKinley, Sherwood, Black) in order to get his thousands of pounds a week in. Venky's....don't be fooled by two wins...these were home games against very poor opposition.

Hmmmm....... you're not doing yourself any favours with that comment! Very much a glory hunter's comment.

Rovers play sheite so you stay away but when they start to play better you'll come back? That's the kind of supporter we need at Ewood! What a joke!

We all know that footballers need confidence and the Rovers players are desperately lacking in that department. It's hardly surprising either when despite SK leaving, the fans are still not coming back and sections of those that have come back are booing them. They need the crowd behind them, not slating and ridiculing them. I don't think i could play to the best of my ability in those conditions.

Anyway, we can only play the hand we are dealt. So, SK has gone (big plus!) we are currently sitting 5th in the table within spitting distance of the top and we should have a new manager in the next few days. Not to mention, we are still above the dingles!

We aren't going to get rid of Venkys anytime soon, look at Man Utd with the Glaziers! Venky's will go only when they want to, so we might as well get behind the playing staff and hopefully stop our club from falling into oblivion.

Why boo and demotivate your team?
Maybe Scum isnt the right word, paying the ticket price then hindering your own team by booing makes you a moron. Even dingles have more class. And that really is saying something!

Accusing everyone whose positive to be part of the management just shows how desperate you so-called "boycotters" are becoming now that the dodgy dossier crew have all but collapsed after the supposed exposure of your fairy tale scandal proved to be just that. I guess the golden dream of one day owning a piece of Ewood vanishing now that Keans gone and things are improving is too bitter a pill to swallow for some.

I dont get why people want the 25k supporters back, me, I'm happy with 13 or even 8k as long as they're there to support the team. As soon as Venkys install a decent manager and the team starts gelling the fairweather fans and boycotters will be back in their thousands - or maybe they will if they see a prospect of promotion.

From what? "Glory hunting" Rovers fans? Is your uniform giving you such a sense of superiority that you can have a go at whoever you like, making whatever assumptions you like? I'll assume that you are being trained to ask questions later.

You need to think again if you think anybody deserves the sanctimonious ramblings of somebody who doesn't even go to games.

The only thing I'm ashamed of is that I have got involved in an exchange with an idiot like you. You are clearly a moron so let me spell it out to you:
- I made an observation that the gate is down partly because of the verry poor quality of the football;
- You , totally unfounded, have accused me of being a stay-away, a glory-hunter and a boo-boy;
- You mentioned that you are "serving my country" as your excuse for not going, i.e. you brought it up not me, and used that reasoning to justify calling me an "arrogant pr!ck"

I haven't made any judgement whatsoever of whether you are a better or worse fan than I am, rather that is what you have done. Frankly, I can't see how randomly attacking people because they happen to make a negative observation about the quality of football is supposed boost the crowds down at Ewood. Please don't try to explain.

u staying away krazzi horse?suits me.if u can't recognise that there were some other decent performances then you are better off giving future games a miss.
in my opinion i thought the defence looked pretty solid, lowe was tireless in midfield, pederson had his best game for a long while.
yes its clear we need some pace on the flanks and some company for rhodes up front but get a decent manager appointedthis week and we are well placed for a promotion push.
If that is without likeminded 'supporters' like you then so be it.

Some people really are getting up tight here - all want the same thing a Good winning Rovers side back in the Premiership

Rovers were always going loose a % of fans when they were relegated primarily because the entertainment value from individual players is not as good. In 7 games this season I have not come away from Ewood thinking wow that player is class. There is a big difference between this league and the premiership so dont expect miracles.

I also find in this league the standard o f refs is much lower which certainly doesnt help the entertainment either

This season I accept will be one long grind but if with the right Manager we can get out of it - it will be worth it. Eric Black has done his best he deserves thanks for his efforts but Rovers must now appoint a real motivating Manager because I still sense the squad is on edge even when they are winning

I was at the game yesterday and it was a big improvement than what I witnessed against Wolves.I like the look of our midfield,Etuhu and especially Jason Lowe.Unfortunately we might lose him for a few games.I hope Kazim has learnt his lesson and leave the spot kicks too Rhodes. The defence looks much more solid and fair play too Eric Black for this.On the whole I'm a very happy Rover, which I've not felt like this for a long time.C'mon you blues!.

One thing that was missing yesterday was a minutes applause to mark the passing of John Connelly, an England international who represented Blackburn and Burnley.

Not sure exactly how these decisions are made but it's a shame that respect for the clubs heritage and traditions seems to be on the wane.

If Andy Cryer knows or can get anyone from the club to explain why this didn't happen I'd like to know. I would also suggest that this should certainly be done before the derby match, to allow the decent majority of football fans to show they can unite and behave respectfully when required.

,but seeing the display of the 6 games , I've seen this season, sorry we are miles away from automatic promotion and might just scrape into the playoffs
Irrespective of whose in charge, we simply aren't good enough, especially when the opposition come at us we need to get the defence sorted

To all you stay away fans with excuses, Steve Kean is no longer manager. As far as I was aware that was why there was mass boycotting?
I stayed away this season untill the Wolves game because Kean had gone. We've been spoiled over the last 20 years, that's the problem.

Of course nobody particularly wants Venkys, why would we after the last two years? I despise what they have done but they're not about to sell up and f*ck off any time soon to some billionaire oil baron who's a life time Rovers fan, so we have to hope and pray they get the right man in. If your still not happy because the pitch is too green, or it was a bit breezy last time you went, go and support United or Citeh.

I absolutely guarantee that if by some miracle (and it would be a miracle) we get Harry Redknapp, there will be moaners coming up with excuses as to why he's not the man for the job because he's a southerner or some other tosh and they wont be coming to Ewood until Mourinho's in charge!

Personally, I think Holloway might just be the man. If that's the case, we'd have the absolute opposite of Kean, which is what we all wanted wasn't it?

especially the end bit.

"No matter how you feel about the shenanigans at the club over the last couple of years it doesn't change the fact that it's our club. Getting on players backs is not going to help, it's going to make things worse! (Felt like putting that bit in capitals, just managed to resist the urge.)

If you are a Blackburn Rovers fan, then support Blackburn Rovers. If you wish to put the players down then **** off elsewhere. Buying a ticket does not give you the right to treat the players however you like and destroy things for the rest of us.

This is going to sound a bit schmaltzy now, but if you want to see Rovers go down the Leagues and disappear out of existence then carry on. If you want the club to still be there in twenty years then for pities sake, stop it. Behave yourselves. Grow up. Take some responsibility"

Our sentiments exactly mate.

The only thing I'm ashamed of is that I have got involved in an exchange with an idiot like you. You are clearly a moron so let me spell it out to you:
- I made an observation that the gate is down partly because of the verry poor quality of the football;
- You , totally unfounded, have accused me of being a stay-away, a glory-hunter and a boo-boy;

Please don't try to explain.
oh for god,s sake get a life will you. the bloke is in the navy how the hell can he get to every home game.

Well I think your out of order one post. This guy is in the armed forces and gives you the luxury of being able to watch football whilst he has to do all the dirty work.
Your total lack of respect to an honest and hard working serviceman just shows you for waht you are. I thought you'd changed but alas no.
I'm actually embarrassed that you are a Rovers fan. You need to lay off the nutter juice and join the service yourself, then you may appreciate how lucky we are.

I hope its Simon Grayson if Arry is not available. Holloway is third choice dor me. Gonna have a few scoops tonight. Sorted.
The boycotters are full of tripe. Any excuse not to attend. Prices too high, hoofball, Kean, wrong manager being mooted etc. etc. We WILL overcome. Up Rovers!
Ever considered that many are staying away just because the football is utter sh8 as it was again today?
It wasnt. The team had complete control of possession. Watford had 11 men in their own half all the game. What are you expecting? Its the championship not the champions league. Stop moaning.

I understand what you say about Holloway, and I kind of agree. I guess that the best thing about him - apart from his honesty (which would be quite refreshing for a change) - is that he is a lot better than some of the other candidates. But that shouldn't be the reason why we have him as manager. He would probably only be in the second tier of choices. Still Redknapp for me if he will come, then OGS or Grayson.

BTW - who the heck is that guy that Burnley are looking to offer their job to?

Contrary to other opinions likely coming on here I enjoyed today's game. It made a change to see forward passes, no hoofball plenty of effort. The defence was virtually under no pressure at anytime during the match. One criticism, JR should have taken the penalty.

Well done to the team!
Excellent post. Totally agree.

I certainly don't see why Eric Black is labelled the bad guy by some people.

Serving my country!! You’ve spent all night talking garbage on an internet site and doing god knows what in between. And I bet you get a medal for it. I’ll sleep much better at night now knowing that our country is protected by the likes of you.
Excuse me, but who started beating your drum?!
For your information i have been serving my country for the last 23 years, having served on 13 ships and i've been to some pretty nasty places in that time. I don't ask for thanks, it was a life choice that i made and i am very proud of the service that i have given.
I am currently posted in London at our HQ and work 12hr shifts and strangely enough the nights can be particularly quiet. Hence, more time to kill on the internet!
I find your derisory comments about my service in the Navy quite insulting as it indicates a complete disregard for all servicemen and women.

There are sailors, soldiers and airmen deployed all over the world, as i have been in the past and i'm sure your comments would be very much appreciated by them... as well as the many that work in the HQ here in London with me.

It does not matter how many medals i have, i have earned every one of them and will not have the likes of you 'cheapen' their meaning with your disrespectful comments.

I hope that you are proud of yourself because if i were you i would feel deeply embarrassed!

You have the luxury of being able to go to the Rovers more often than i but that does not make me any less of a fan!
Fact is, you probably are one of the boo boys but are just too ashamed to admit it!
The only thing I'm ashamed of is that I have got involved in an exchange with an idiot like you. You are clearly a moron so let me spell it out to you:
- I made an observation that the gate is down partly because of the verry poor quality of the football;
- You , totally unfounded, have accused me of being a stay-away, a glory-hunter and a boo-boy;

You say you aren't asking for thanks but why start talking about your job? Why feel the need to tell us you are serving your country? We can probably guess that from your name. Nobody else feels the need to say all this stuff. Why not just stick to the footy?

A lot of Rovers fans have more faces than the town hall clock.
A scrappy 1-0 win against a very poor side and a lot of moaners from last week are talking up Black and promotion.
It was a shocking game, apart from Pederson, Hanley and a slight improvement in Lowe, the rest of them were clueless with Rhodes a lonely isolated figure up front.
That arrogant git Richards needs a reality check and somebody needs to tell him he's not as good as he thinks he is. A big clumbering carthorse is doing him a favour, penalty was embarrassing and he should give Rhodes his wage for pulling him out the 5hit.
A squad like ours should be ripping tosh teams like these apart, but a proper manager with some idea would help!
I do believe a lot of Rovers fans are glory hunters, and will accept any junk on pitch as long as its leading to a premier league fixture list. Well don't count me in that lot, been down there 40 years , bad, good, thick, and thin, always have been and always will be a blue and I know a decent squad and manager combination when I see it and won't be blinded by an uninspired group of players turning in less than mediocre performances

I dont think anybody on here has said what you are accusing them of. Im frankly tired of hearing people like you twittering on about gloryhunting. Get real man. We are in the championship. How can anybody be glory hunting. Black is harmless after the damaging Kean. Thats all fans are saying. They are not talking him up. You should watch The Club that Jack Built. Remind yourself of what Rovers meant to him. He would be devastated to see what has happened but just as much that so many fans have abandoned his club and surrendered it to Venkys He would want us to keep a majority stake at least. You sound so very bitter and negative.

I like the thought of 'Arry' Redknapp, good high profile name and a decent manager. Whether he'd come to Rovers remains to be seen but we need someone to whip those players into shape and get them playing the way that we all know they can.

You're the epitamy of the people I was talking about. "Harmless" in the description of Black says it all. Who wants "harmless"? in my book that means spineless, no threat and will take no chances. Not the stuff a good manager is made of is it? was Souness, Hughes, Dalglish
or, Allerdyce harmless?

Great result today man of the match Ruben Rochina by a mile. Spread play brilliantly in the first half and was always looking for that killer Forward pass. Yes he misplaced some passes but I bet if you were to ask the Watford players who gave them the hardest time they would say Rochina

Etuhu faded second half.

Unfortunately will not get the best out of Rhodes unt we have some true pace on the flanks

Sorry but Morten and Givet have very little pace now to take on full backs, get to the bye line or in Givets case overlap. Olsson threatened more when he came on.

On the right Orr and Kazim Richards posed no threat either. Richards had so many great opportunities of taking their full back on 1 on 1 and never did it thus getting no crosses in for Rhodes from the byeline

If we don't have threats down both flanks then everything has to go down the middle. Oh for a Stuart Ripley and or Jason Wilcox players who just loved to take full backs on and skin them leaving them in their wake.

Matt Philips - Blackpool

I think there is a similar player at Cardiff who is a scouser causing mayhem down the flanks at the moment to.

What a difference a couple of players like that would make to Blackburn's attack - They go past full backs for fun and put superb crosses into the box.

Imagine Rhodes success rate with players like them feeding crosses in from the byeline something we have missed for a while now.

Givet and Pederson have been fantastic for us however along with Orr and Kasim Richards are not giving us the threat out wide that we need. Time and again we had chances of taking Watfords full backs on 1 on 1 getting to the byeline or into the penalty box and noone had the pace to do it consequently crosses going in from far to deep a direction or players cutting back looking for passes infield again.

Unfortunately everything therefore going down the middle which with teams coming and defending in numbers behind the ball may cost us if we don't have the threat down the flanks as well.

In my opinion at least one flying winger who can go from one wing to the other if needs be is the biggest January window purchase we need, a young version of Stuart Ripley would do nicely.

How about trying a mission of helping shebby out by identifying in the lower leagues who could do a brilliant wingers job for us.

Not that they are in a lower league but I will start with:

1 - Matt Phillips of Blackpool
2 - Craig Noone of Cardiff

Cardiff City's Craig Noone scores a stunning goal as his side beat Burnley and go top of the Championship. Barely four years since he was tiling Steven Gerrard’s roof in his home city of Liverpool, Craig Noone is setting his sights on joining one of the heroes of his teenage years in the Premier League.

That way we will get the best out of Jordan Rhodes and whoever else makes up our strike force and put the fear of god into any teams coming to Ewood

One thing that was missing yesterday was a minutes applause to mark the passing of John Connelly, an England international who represented Blackburn and Burnley. If Andy Cryer knows or can get anyone from the club to explain why this didn't happen I'd like to know. I would also suggest that this should certainly be done before the derby match, to allow the decent majority of football fans to show they can unite and behave respectfully when required.
Excellent idea.

Sadly, it will probably have to be someone from Burnley FC who suggests it.

I think we'd both like as higher profile a manager as possiblle at both clubs for the media profile and ability to attract players. Sean Dyche did a good job at watford and would be an asset to us if he can bring some of the qualities he employed there.
Both clubs need to get this right. We have the potential for a play off place, but little more than that from what we've seen so far. Promotion is a must for you lot, anything less and your finances are going to come under pressure.with the wages you must be paying.

Hi Matt, I reckon we have three sound left wingers already at Ewood :- Fabio Nunes who looks like a really exciting raw talent - he has loads of pace and some good skill has a decent strike on him too And either of the two Olsson brothers - both have pace and skill in abundance.

We do need a similar style player on the right side though....can hardly remember when we last had a decent right winger?

Bentley in recent times was very effective there but didn't beat men with his pace - and Emerton did OK there but was so frustrating at times, so it could be as long ago as when Stuart Ripley was playing!

Before that there were people like Brotherston, Douglas, Fergie, and of course the late great John Connelly. Time we had another right winger down at Ewood for sure....

That way we will get the best out of Jordan Rhodes and whoever else makes up our strike force and put the fear of god into any teams coming to Ewood

Hi French Rover

I agree with your comments not sure if Fabio would cover back as well as Wilcox did though and Emerton was a great loyal player for us but frustrated with his lack of conviction at taking full backs on and beating them or dribbling to get into the box etc.

Agree with you about Olsson as he did make a difference when going forward no doubts about that and gained quite a few free kicks for us in potentially dangerous situations for whipping them into the box.

There must be some good exciting young right wingers in the lower leagues. Interesting to hear Brian Roy I think his name is the ex Ajax player who played over here for a number of years he is now their "winger coach"

Not that they are in a lower league but I will start with: 1 - Matt Phillips of Blackpool 2 - Craig Noone of Cardiff Cardiff City's Craig Noone scores a stunning goal as his side beat Burnley and go top of the Championship.
