Move for Redknapp has Black’s backing

CARETAKER boss Eric Black says Harry Redknapp would be a ‘sensational’ move for Blackburn Rovers, if the former Tottenham manager is serious about his interest in the Ewood Park vacancy.

Redknapp has indicated privately that he would be willing to consider the job, although it still seems unlikely at this stage that Rovers will be able to land the 65-year-old.

Rovers are yet to make contact with Redknapp and are continuing to pursue their current shortlist as they look to find a replacement for Steve Kean.

They could be set to make an approach for Blackpool boss Ian Holloway, with the Seasiders still braced.

But Rovers are understood to be open to discussing the role with Redknapp if he is genuine.

Rovers currently have Black in temporary charge ahead of tomorrow’s home game with Watford and the caretaker boss believes it would be an incredible coup for the club if they could secure Redknapp.

“Harry Redknapp is an exceptional manager, over the years he’s proved that,” said Black.

“He’s managed at the top level, so he’s a top quality candidate I would suggest.

“I think he would be a sensational appointment.”

“Whether that happens I don’t know. Harry has worked at the highest level.

“What he deems to be the challenge I don’t know.”

There were conflicting reports over Redknapp’s interest yesterday, with one article claiming he had said there was ‘no chance’ he would be tempted by the Rovers job.

Redknapp was tipped for the England job earlier this year before being surprisingly sacked by Tottenham, despite guiding them to fourth in the Premier League.

He is based on the south coast and has never previously managed in the north, but sources close to him insist that he would consider Rovers, providing he received assurances that he would get the budget and control that he wanted.

Rovers midfielder David Dunn said: “If Shebby could persuade Harry to have a serious think about coming to Ewood Park then I would imagine it would be one of the better decisions that Venky’s have made over the last couple of years.

“We have got a very good squad and we still have an outstanding chance of getting promotion.

“I am sure if Harry was interested and the club could persuade him to come to the club, then hopefully we could get promotion.”

Rovers made an official approach to Fulham for their first-team coach Billy McKinlay earlier this week, but were refused permission to speak to the Scot.

Rovers’ interest has now cooled, with the move proving unpopular with fans, and Fulham boss Martin Jol says permission would have been granted if the Cottagers were convinced McKinlay was the number one choice.

“They asked us a couple of days ago if they can talk to him and we said no,” Jol said.

“If you say yes it opens the door for other clubs to talk to my one of my staff members.

“If they said, ‘He’s our number one choice’, I’d probably tell them they can talk to him.

“But there are always big lists in football and I want Billy to stay.,” he added.

Meanwhile, midfielder Dunn is expected to miss Rovers’ match with Watford with the midfielder awaiting the result of a scan on a calf injury picked up in the midweek victory over Sheffield Wednesday.

And Black confirmed that he has made an enquiry about a loan move for Stoke striker Cameron Jerome, and Potters boss Tony Pulis said he would consider a three-month deal.

But Black was a little more cautious about whether that would happen given he has not yet got the go-ahead to sign players.

“I haven’t spoken to the owners,” he said. “I’m just doing my job and having a look, and should there be an opportunity then I’ll be in a position to suggest someone.

“If we can bring a striker in that would be good, but we’ll see what happens.”

If as the reports suggest Rednapp is interested then we don't need to look any further. get him signed up now. I'm sure that most of the fans would welcome this and see this as a positive step forward. Of course there will always be the ones that disagree and still moan. Just someone to get us in with a serious chance of promotion and to start to put the club back on a proper footing would be fine

The reason they aren't getting Harry straight to the front of their list and the reason they are interviewing a number of candidates is becaus Harry would no doubt sooner stick pins in his eyes than work for the ridiculous and embarrassing Venkys and Singh. Wake up folks. All this name dropping is classic Venkys. We've been here before. Didn't they sack Sam to get in a "top class manager"? Weren't they bidding for Ronaldinho and Beckham. Why is there one Rovers fan even falling for any of this recent con trick? These are conmen, game players. Yet another false hope and absolute tosh.

Why would a 65 year old millionaire, who has been based down South all his career and has zero links with Rovers, want to come to work at the comedy club? It just won't happen.

Martin Jol looked like he was about to burst out laughing during his Fulham press conference at the way Rovers conducted themselves in the bizzare attempts to lure McKinlay earlier in the week.

Clueless amateurs.

He probably feels that Southampton is his best bet for a return to management.

Having said that, who would have bet that Sam Allardyce would have taken the West Ham job - i.e. His family lived in the Noth West, he was in his 60's and had health issues.

I think Harry might be tempted with a short term contract until the end of the season with a big promotion bonus, perhaps with OGS working with him for the last part of the season to enable him to "bed in" without any pressure, before fully taking over the reigns.

From listening to Shabby on TV last night he detailed the three groups of managers and focused on the third group and in his words the most interesting "the new up and coming group"....it is clear we are going to get someone from this group such as Black, Robinson, Flitcroft, McKinlay etc etc as they are the cheaper options. Also the most risky as with Kean. No one will know if they will work or not. he likened the situation to Porto unearthing Mouriniho....but how may times does that happen.
Now what was the name of Harry's dog?

He may be mentioned today but though he is 14-1 with a couple of bookies now you can still get around 25-1 on him with others - so he isn't attracting any serious money yet. He could be on the short list - but wouldn't be in the top three. Holloway is being backed again....down to 3-1 on some sites and McKinlay is still favourite but he is at a better price now around Evens generally. Really hope it isn't either of those two. Get real dreamers.
Venkys will choose the cheapest option and the best we can hope for is a younger manager who is so keen(and naive) to get a leg up the ladder he won't take that much interest in Rovers' shabby management. Anyone with an ounce of nous isn't going to take the Rovers job.
Shabby Singh is on a high after years of touting round in Asia he's landed a dream job of being in charge of an English club with a distinguished history. He's on the make, simple as that, the more he can spin out the sorry saga, setting off rumours about 'Arry, apprearing on TV, the more his image back home goes up. He's doing the Z list celeb act and will go back to Asia when the money runs out, which is sooner than some think. In the meantime, he's the proverbial child in the sweet shop.
Let's face we're now a third rate outfit and will remain so until Venkys leave.
We're leaking money, only 13,000 on Wednesday, £8 for Rhodes, a rash and desperate publicity stunt in my eyes, some senior players on overvalued salaries.
Sad to say, it has to get worse before it gets better. Bankruptcy is a better bet than promotion at the moment.

Let's be realistic for once, they'll be looking to appoint someone who will be so gratefull at being put in charge of what was, up untill this season , an established premiershp Club, that they'll be willing to have any managerial decisions they make vetted by a man whose only experience of top flight professional football being that he commented on prem matches shown on Asian t.v. for a season or two . The Rovers will remain to the owners exactly what they bought it for, ie. a cash cow, they no doubt envisage continually bringing unknown cheap foreign players in from abroad with the intention of increasing their price enough for a tidy profit, so once again , not even a half decent manager would put up with these sort of conditions, which is why in my humble opinion we are most likely to end up with someone who has little or no chance of getting us back to the Premiership , and may even put us in a worst position than we presently are. The only chance we have is if the owners and this arrogant global advisor (??) admit that they know absolutely nothing about running a football club and let professional people of experience control the club once more , i'm not holdng my breath on that one though ... R.T.I.D.” I'd love to be completely wrong on it all though !!

I cannot see old 'arry coming here for less than 2.5 million a year have you seen where he lives? A view across the entrance to Poole Harbour of the castle on Brownsea Island with boats bobbing up and down outside his bedroom window how idyllic is that? I do not think he will move from that beautiful location and leave his wife on her own unless we paid him a king's ransom.
I just hope they get someone with a semblence of experience and success apparently Ole is not ready to unsettle his family and move here so its back to Ian Holloway and maybe Shearer as favourites but even they are better than Shebby's original selections.

The funniest line in the LET article is that Black doesn't know what 'arry might see as the challenge in taking on the management of the club. Well Eric if you can't see what the challenge is let me tell you. The club is SH1T from top to bottom including you.

It really is time to unite behind the Club whoever is appointedc Manager.

To read comments in the press about thesupporters choice influencing decisions just continues to paint a bad impression of the Club and their supporters.

Yes it was right to protest and seek the removal of the previous Manager but similarly now we must get behind the new man 100% or Rovers fans will forever be tarnished witha reputation which until now they do not deserve

Three points tomorrow and Cameron Jerome would do nicely thanks

I love my club but there is not a cat in hell chance of Harry taking over the managers job at Ewood.

No ammount of money would bring him here.
He's not ruling himself out of the job so other clubs closer to the south (QPR or SOUTHAMPTON for example) who could need him soon may have yo act quicker to snap him up. He's bored, itching for a job but not at Blackburn. He's far too wise for what's happening here.

We all hope n pray for an end to the embarrassing happenings we are subject to week in week out but we've a long long way to go before that starts to happen.

Redknapp is never coming, so stop dreaming and stop threatening more boycotts if the next manager is not a big name.

Redknapp would be a great manager for Blackburn and he would attract loads of players but my only worry is that they will all come in on massive wages and with Rovers not being the "money force" as in the the Jack Walker era, he may lead us to financial collapse.
Also he would obviously be wanting a contract that states he is his own man and making his own decisions, but I can't see that happening with "Guess Who" Lookalike Sheeby Singh behind the scenes along with the Chewbacca Chicken brothers.

I think you are on to something there, Venkys could make a few quid, and on match days what great sport we could have at half time, officially picking a substitute by asking the audience who to take off and who to bring on.

Very true....despite the 2 years horror show, we have a very good squad for this league and any sort of manager with any pedigree would relish the job as long as those bafoons let him manage. It seems a very long time since I had a good debate about a players performance, tactics, transfer targets etc etc. The Venkys fiasco is beginning to take it's toll on my mental state.

There's been no debate on here on Rovers tactics because Rovers don't do tactics and haven't done since Keano and Black has followed his lead.
Rover have a rough game plan that goes
A. If you score, even in the first minutes, backtrack and hang on grimly. If you don't score hang on grimly. If the opposition score hang on and try to keep the score down.
A blind donkey can see that Rovers players are clueless, dispirited and unfit.
As to transfer targets, and manager targets, that's just fantasy, to idle away some time or use the computer at work when the boss isn't looking.
Players are bought and sold according to profit and loss, agents fees. The next manager will be either a cynic or some tyro who hasn't the wit to ask around about the way Rovers are run.

Surely the comment coming from Ewood should be "If we can bring in a (experienced) MANAGER that would be good, but we’ll see what happens.” Yes, we will "see what happen's" alright - four weeks and counting. Four week's in which Shebby, Shaw and Agnew (not to say our 'absent' owners) have been running around like headless chickens. Hang on a minute, don't our owners runs a chicken business? Who is really goning to come? Redknapp? - swapping the multi-millionaire lifestyle of sunny Bournemouth for Blackburn. Jack Walker couldn't tempt Sven Goran-Erikkson (+ Nancy de L) to Lancashire, what chance of the Indians, who have hardly been here?

Who have been Rovers most successful managers? I would say

John Carey, no experience, came straght from playing at Man U, won promotion whilst reducing the average age by 6/7 years.
Gordon Lee, very little experience at Port Vale, won promotion in first full season.
Howard Kendal, no experience, came as player manager won promotion in first season missed out on promotion the following season on goal difference.
Kenny Dalglish, very experienced, promotion in first season, champions in fourth season.
Graham Souness, very experienced, promotion in first full season, cup winners the following year.

To me that would suggest that experienced or novice, it is largely down to luck if the right man is appointed

It is difficult choosing the right man for the job and just because success at one club doesn't mean success at another,or past success doesn't guarantee that it can be repeated it boils down to luck and the right man that fits that particular situation.I am not sure about Mr Holloway or any of the names mentioned. I just think we deserve a break after having to put up with this state of affairs fro the past years.

just as many thought they would not sign etuhu, rhodes and others. Get real, the club was for sale for several years and no decent owners wanted to buy. John Williams tried unsuccessfully to sell for a good few years and nobody wanted to buy. the walker trust wanted to offload the club desperately. i feel the owners are naive and took wrong advice previously and since Shebby has arrived we have turned the corner.
Which corner is that? Your Mr Singh is just a talker, excuse finder, say what people want to hear but above all get your face on TV "pundit". The directives for the club are as they have been, chirpy chirpy cheap cheap. Fail at all costs. They have taken more money out than put in, but what they put in is under their control, so is almost certainly devalued. They are still a bumbling mistake ridden bunch of chumps. they just have a friendly face to off put the blame.
Fail at no cost, surely?

BREAKING NEWS - LATEST Harry Redknapp is definitley taking the Ewood job subject to the club signing Rooney, Ronaldo, Van Persie and Theo Walcott. The other proviso is that Alex Ferguson is allowed to become his assistant manager. Shebby Singh and Desai Venky have agreed to these requests and the Glaobal Adviser is now trying to find where Alex Ferguson is because he has never heard of him but once he has located him, then he will definitely sign him
It'll never happen of course but chri$t, I'd love to see your face if it did.

Shrek and the other two United boys (one old, one new) would be a start but Theo "oooh look how fast I can run" Walcott? I would 'ope 'arry would demand better than that.

Here's hoping.

Totally right, excactly as i see it, wouldnt trust venkys, shabby or any of them. Once bitten twice shy, and we have been bitten more than once.
What has Shebby done wrong exactly? He came, he actually listened to the fans, and lo and behold Steve Kean was gone. Things are better since Shebby came along. Football is a tough game. Choosing a manager is hard. Ask John Williams about Paul Ince.
Yes, another " up and coming young manager." It didn't work that time and personally, I hope they don't risk it this time.
Ince did seem a decent punt at the time though.

The BIG difference was John Williams realised it was a mistake and acted. Venkys don't even know when they have made a mistake never mind doing anything about it.

Ince, by the way, admitted in a recent interview (on Sky, I think) the Rovers job had come too soon and he shouldn't really have taken it. No slagging off the board for not giving him enough time or any of the usual rubbish we hear. Nice to hear a little honesty and humility from someone I fancy not many on here would have thought possessed such qualities; respect, Mr Ince, respect.

In all my 72 years of supporting Blackburn I have never been so appalled as I am right now.

Harry Redknapp is not the man

I've been around the block long enough (72 years) to know a no good dullard when I see one. And I tell you what I see now: a no good dullard.

Jesus, can this man even hold a pint glass properly with those twitchy hands? Kean and Hendry could drink their beer like proper men but I doubt this joker even sups real ale. Disgusting.

No - this is all going to end in tears I tell you. 72 years experience tells me. I can sniff out the wronguns I tell you.

When I look at Redknapp I see WEAKNESS. Yes, there's a bit too much of "I'd prefer to set up the cones for training" about him than "I'm off to steal my neighbours' life savings and pi.ss it all away gambling on NFL all night while drinking special brew". I can see it in his eyes.

This doesn't bode well for BRFC.

The only chance we have is if the owners and this arrogant global advisor (??) admit that they know absolutely nothing about running a football club and let professional people of experience control the club once more , i'm not holdng my breath on that one though ... That would be his defence in a court case where he was found not guilty?

And he didn't spend Pompey's money, the owner - or cowboy who bought the club - did.

There's no chance 'Arry will join us but you're starting the character assassination regardless. Give it a rest FFS.

There's a lot more heartache to come before this lot have realised they cannot ruin us anymore and decide there's no more money in it for them.

Why does everybody want Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to take charge of the team ?

He has only ever managed in a pie and pea league. Yes, he has done well but we need somebody who has had success in the top flight in this country.

You have been very lucky my friend, recent studies show that smeeling more than once a week can results in shrivelled testicles. Maybe you are using a different technique or appliance ?
There was a real problem in the 80's when due to a shortage of Benedictine the practice of smeelling reached epidemic proportions in Burnley. The sad results of a damaged gene pool are evident in the population to this day.
